Awesome video! I love to put my gesso in a paper cup and add in a grounding colour - helps save me a step, and lets me see if I mised a spot.

This is a timely video for me. I am getting ready to gesso a stack of wood panels. They will be used over the summer for my "art for sale" projects. This is the first time I have tried using panels and covering them with gesso.

I've been using gesso over my old paintings...it's worked out pretty good. Some of my first paintings are just scary to look at, so it's good for practicing on an old painting.

I have several paintings to cover up and hopefully do better on their second life. Thank you for the tutorial. I actually put gesso on some heavy paper. It kind of worked. Made a cheap painting surface but the paper did buckle.

+Patricia Simmons You can use a sealer before the gesso and a repositional adhesive on the back but at that point you may as well paint on board. So only do that if you are looking to have paper as your ground :) ( painting surface)

I am a little in behind watching your videos, I had some fun on this one. I love the serios Daniel and your reactions. He keeps himself together so well and fun too! I always hate the gesso part when I start something. It always is the boring part , but yes, mostly necessary.

I see colored canvasses being sold at Michael's craft stores and they are pretty cheaply priced. They seem a little odd to me and it just makes me wonder, why use a colored canvas? I would think anyone buying canvas would just e covering them in paint anyway. Have you seen the colored canvas? What is your recommendation for them? Thank you for being you Cinnamon! You make painting so fun and cheerful with that element of nutty flavored humor which I love!!
@TheArtSherpa8 жыл бұрын
+Vanessa Monteith It is basically an acrylic colored ground . But one you know is stable and bound to the canvas. You can totally do that yourself
@sweetysmart05058 жыл бұрын
I was hoping you would do an actual comparison with paints. For example, painting on a canvas with no Gesso, 1 coat of Gesso, 2 coats, 3 coats, etc,... until we no longer notice a difference. Also, would have loved to hear some tips on priming with Gesso vs. priming with white acrylic.

Cinnamon - I have a question for you. I just watched this older video on Gesso, something I have never had to do yet. Or I think I haven't had to do yet, all my canvases are already have gesso. I see other comments below that some used it right over an older painting. I have a painting I did when I first started on a larger canvas and I did a terrible job on varnishing it. There is no way to save it. You see all the brush stokes, I just didn't do it right. At first I was oh well, it is only a painting for me, but as time goes by it is driving me nuts. I just want to paint over it, so I was wondering if I should gesso it first? Then I plan to paint your birch trees over it. I did those on a smaller canvas and love it. By the way, the canvas is 24 x 36. Thanks Tina

Should I gesso mixed media or drawing paper before using acrylic on top?
@TheArtSherpa4 жыл бұрын
You can, it will make blending easier, as paper absorbs some of the water out of the paint, but it isn't necessary.🖤
