Glad to hear the good news about your health! About the Roselle…I was in the same situation. In fact, I never got to see buds. I actually just started them indoors this time - and I started my onions last month. I have a freezer full of scotch bonnets and I’m not sure what to do with them. I harvested a few early butternut squash. You can slice them and fry them with a light egg and flour coating. They taste pretty good but I hate frying. I’m hoping to see your recipes!

Congrats on "beeting" (😉) that cancer! Keep up the regimen! 👍🏿 Great bounty! I would also advise you not to feel the pressure that You are the person who has to use all the bounty just because you grew it. Back in the day, people traded their excess bounty. You can give some away what you think you can't use. You probably will make someone's day.

We are two counties NW of you, for reference. We started roselle indoors, not because we were experts, but because we were excited when we received the seeds and didn’t want to wait to see what they looked like! Planted 3 seeds in a 72 cell tray, 3 germinated and 3 turned into massive shrubs that were blown over by Helene, which made it…at a 45 degree angle. Starting them indoors made all the difference. We had a massive harvest, which we froze. Made all sorts of muffins and breads for Thanksgiving. So, some hope for your plans for next year! Re: sweet potatoes, we also had a bumper crop of sweet potatoes in our jerk clay soil. We didn’t water them and they somehow lasted the drought, as we were gone all summer. I know that you have a lot of raised beds, but perhaps there’s an area where you can plant in ground instead? On the peanut front, we’ve never grown them, so we’re going to give it a go this year, seeing what you were able to grow. Wishing you health and peace this new year. 🎉

Meg you can use calamanei as meat tenderizer. Very suitable get rid of bad smell in fish, chicken, pork, beef. After you wash,clean the meat you can add some of the juice extracted . Add flavors too. Also when you like to make ice tea or hot tea you can squeeze calamansi. . You can make also hot calamansi put some honey. . Also it's best in steak, roasted pork belly, beef, chicken . It's also best in sauce with soy sauce, chilli peppers.

Fantastic garden harvest. I am here in BC Canada! We can't grow okra or rosell here. We have 110 days of growth here. I start peppers and celery and onions indoors. I will put seeds in pots this week or so. I love gardening! It is my life blood! I think your sweet potatoes may need some well rotted compost and goat or llama manure. Perhaps some blood/bone meal. You know, I have actually thought about that!! Especially since I was raised in statesville and we lived in the Mooresville area right when the nodule was first found. But I don’t know how to reach out to them, but I’m going to look into it. It is crazy how there is literally a thyroid cancer there!
@ndbg468814 күн бұрын
Hi Meg, Happy New Year and I'm glad to see you out in the garden! What a beautiful harvest. Is that trellis you have from Gardeners Supply? If so, I want a trellis and trying to transport a cattle panel seems like too much work. I want to grow Loofah's this year. How do you like that trellis? Try soaking the loofah in bleach to clean them up and then rinse thoroughly. I have my last home grown one left and they are excellent for using in the shower. Old lady tip - if you are harvesting the last peppers of the season, just cut the plants at soil level and bring them to a place to sit. Then you can harvest while sitting instead of bending over. Works for beans, too! Leave those roots in the soil to decompose. I grew Roselle for the first time this year and I was disappointed, too. Plants grew great but the buds were very small. I'm in southern Maryland so a little shorter season. I believe my problem was that I needed to harvest the first buds as soon as they ripen or the next ones won't be as big. I hope someone else weighs in on this. And the yield is small per bud. And the leaves are edible. I hope you try again!

I am looking for the pollinator flower that is purple, and as it grows, unfurls like a fern, or if i recall, you said a finger. I'm looking to add something from you, Jaques, and Kevin to my garden this year. Nasturtiums for Kevin. Deciding on what it is for J.

@meggrowsplants3 күн бұрын
I dont think the roots would survive. It just gets a bit too cold for it to be a perennial here. But, let me know how starting it early goes! Im going to aim for starting it indoors about 8 weeks before last frost, so within the next month or so!

And yeah I got some intestinal looking sweet potatoes too 😅 Also, if the soil is too rich, they’ll produce more vines than roots. They’re fine inground in even kind of rough soil. I barely watered mine, just deeply mulched the space. We’re going to try making sweet potato wine with the runts. PS I recently heard a podcast about the origination of ranch dressing…pretty interesting. Gastropod. Great show! Check it out!
