, I absolutely agree. It took me quite some time to make sure that I found the right people to give them a loving home.

Thank you Bearpaw for sharing the love you have for your chickens. Making sure they are going to a happy free range home. I love animals and have always respected them. I was very fortunate to have several pets as a child. So I understand how you feel.

Thank you for watching my love for my critters. This was a tough decision to make.

Actually, chickens handle the cold just fine. Same as any wild bird like grouse. The biggest reason for a light on inside a chicken coop in the winter is to keep them laying eggs. It's the amount of sunlight that makes them quit in the winter. Of course a light helps warm the coop too. More chickens create body heat as well. We had a goose that died not long ago. I really miss that bird! She was really friendly, and followed me around everywhere wanting to be petted. It's funny how some get like that, others stay wild. We raise chickens and turkeys both for eggs and meat. They aren't pets, yet some you do get attached to...….they either die of old age, or some predator gets them.

You speak the absolute truth my friend. I appreciate your participation in my channel, and just truly enjoy reading your stories of experience. Many frost bit combs and waddles are what concerned me about the cold. These short 6 hour days in the winter provided these poor girls with little opportunity to warm up at all from November till March. Thanks again for joining me for this adventure.

Awe I feel your heartache Bearpaw....Your setup is wonderful.... get a couple young pullets to replace your girls to fill the void. I love my 20 girls. They are my therapy when I am having an off day. My two oldest white silkies are 13 and one still lays every day! Did you feed black oil sunflower seeds? Or have access to them? They add wonderful protein for the hard winter months. You must have been busy as I have missed your videos!!

Thinking my chicken days are over. The not being able to free range thing is what gets me the most. Thanks for the kind words and interest in my videos💙

I feel you. We had to rehome a lot of animal family when we sold the farm.

We raised our girls as free roaming pets. They would come to you when called and follow me when I cut the grass. Knocking on the coop, they would go to bed. We rehomed them when I got my Heeler pup Rowdy. Had to dispatch 13 raccoons and 1 skunk that thought they were welcome around my girls. Sad day Indeed.

I won't bee at the meet up either. First off, way too many people for my comfort. Also headed down south for a bit around that time to help out my Pops during recovery from back surgery. We are planning a smaller get together later in the year.

Think I'm going to build a mobile coop for my daughter so she don't have to worry about predators if she's not home and she can move them around her yard, like to see animals happy also, thanks for video.

We did that for some pigs we had. It worked great! Didn't have to clean it, just move it now and then. We moved it onto weed patches a lot. The pigs took care of the weeds. Roto- tilled the garden spot too!

Haven't decided yet. Still trying to accept the fact that my chickens are gone. Still head out each morning to feed them.

Sorry your having to part ways brother. Next time, if you have the ability, grab em when they are roosting at night. They don't even make a peep. Sorry about your dog, Mine eat all the animal feces around here as well. Good info, I'll have to watch them for any illness.
@bearpawtimber87395 жыл бұрын
The dog illness was absolutely horrible. Without getting too descriptive, it involved a ton of clean up in the cabin coming from both ends of my poor little Isabelle. Made her insides bleed a bit as well. That chicken manure is some super hot stuff.
