I had three chickens years ago. They were young when I got them. I had them for about a year and none of them had lice. Then one day they all had lice. They were in a pretty small coop within a fenced yard. So, they must have gotten the lice from wild birds or animals. I wish I could tell you I found a solution, but I never did. Hopefully, you won't have any more issues with the new flock. Best of luck!

Yes, it can. I use wood shavings for bedding, but have used hay in the past, so it is possible that is where they came from.
