@@CycleCruza Would be really cool if you dont sell it unless it fails. fix it and do an episode on what caused it to fail. I'm curious how much abuse it's gonna take. RidingwithTom's 690 had a rocker arm failure. That's one of the things I replaced when I bought my used 690. It's so easy to check and maintain too. Your 690 has the redesigned top end and doesn't have the rocker arm problem anymore. The engine failure cause on Life Well Ridden's 690 is also really rare. Sad to see him also selling it just cuz of something that really didn't destroy his engine..

What’s up @CycleCruza!! Thanks for the shout out!! You da man keep up the great videos!! Will I take it on long trips.. no, do I trust it.. no, but will I ride the crap out of it now?? I had a 690 SMC R a few years ago. It left me stranded twice. Once on the street when the clutch slave cylinder failed. Replaced it with an aftermarket one. 1500 miles. Then at the track, the clutch basket dislodged itself and I couldn’t get it to shift gears. Under 3500 miles for the clutch issue. Then there was the persistent countershaft seal leak. It was fixed under warranty and then I sold it. I recently replaced it with the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono. 2000 miles and zero issues. The only KTMs I’ll ever buy are the 1290 V twins because they’re actually solid and reliable.
@CycleCruza
@CycleCruza 5 ай бұрын
Dang! I will definitely be selling this bike next year, however, I never usually keep a bike past a year anyways. The one thing I don't like about the Ducati 698 mono is the forged wheels, they are prone to crack if you start doing jumps and messing around off-road and up staircases, spoked wheels are much better for supermoto hooligan riders.
@AM-uk7jv
@AM-uk7jv 5 ай бұрын
@@CycleCruza Oh yea, spoked wheels are better for doing hooligan stuff. I hope you don't have the same issues with your SMC R like I did. It was a fun bike when I had it. Since yours is a recent model yea(mine was a 2019), the clutch slave cylinder recall should have already been performed and replaced with one that wont fail randomly. The clutch basket thing is a hit or miss. And your countershaft seal is probably leaking oil since KTM has never addressed that issue, nor fixed it at the factory level. I'd say just get the first service done and rag on it until you decide to sell it.

@@luckyleo88 They're all made in the same place. Only the engine casings and plastics differ between the 690 and 701. They are great bikes. You just need to know what you're getting in to. If you plan to buy one and keep it for a while, I'd suggest buying an extended warranty. Just. In. Case.

I bought a 24 690 in April and from the first ride it leaked oil. The dealer tried to fix 4 times and couldn’t figure it out. Offered me a new engine. I demanded a new bike which they obliged. When the dealer prepped the 2nd bike they found the same issue. KTM employees techs were prepping multiple parts to try and fix it but it was clear they didn’t understand the problem and just were throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. I was a huge KTM fan prior to this and looked forward to this bike for many years. I still have a dirt bike but I don’t think I’ll ever buy another KTM. Yamaha’s have never disappointed me.

I got a 23 Kawasaki 300SM and its a badass little bike after you un californicate it. It comes completely plugged up for emissions but for less than $500 it becomes a pretty good little supermoto. People talk about HD holding value. Nevermind how much more they cost to begin with. Performance per dollar is pathetic. Also HD are very expensive to service, as dealerships who work on HD charge a lot of money. Simple "services" on HD versus metric cruisers cost a LOT more, take a lot more time due to design. Finally, are you willing to put a lot of money into the HD brand, considering what they've turned into of late? Raffle it off. One of us will take it off your hands for you when you want to let her go and you'll raise money for a new bike. That RC390 I had was a hoot. No problems with it no matter how hard I pushed it but only had it a year because the novelty of it wore off. Was a good machine and those 2600 miles I put on her were flawless. By the way I bought a Bell Race Star DLX and frickin love it. Probably the best helmet I've ever had. Thanks for linking that.

Honestly thought the 690 SMC R was good when I test rode it, but seems the stories of them are split being good or bad. The fact that you could or will be waiting for parts if something goes wrong is a huge knock for the bike imo. Having to wait months to get your bike back is definitely enough to turn me off to a manufacturer.

Throw the same gearing on the KTM and it will destroy the YZ. Cruza has a cruising brain as well. Though i don't like 690 handling (very slow left to right) the engine is a technological marvel. They made the mistake to spec the bike for going 210km/h and being stable, that is why it is not so nimble. It is the intermediate of a rad supermoto and a normal.high speed bike.

Had my 701 for 3 years and put on about 8000km on it over those 3 years. Never had a problem with it. Only traded it in because I wanted a more touring friendly ADV/Sport Tourer as that is more the kind of riding I want to do. For what it's worth I did still have faith in KTM and traded to a KTM 1290 and so far so good. Have had it for about 9 months now and over 3200km on it and no problems thus far on that either.

You could always try the Hypermotard 950. It looks a bit on the heavy side on paper but it doesn't feel that way thanks to how the weight is distributed. Plenty of torque in mid range makes it fun on twisties and enough power at higher range for motorways. I picked my Hyper over the SMC and have no regrets.

I was rev bombing it and hear a loud azz pop and and the bike shut off and wouldn't start right away but then started and I haven't had an issue since. I don't rev bomb it as much now. lol Another issue, KTM quality control is subpar, bike came brand new missing a rubber grommet on the side body panel so when I remove the seat the panel falls off. Also, it came missing a zip tie on the air breather hose. I called the KTM dealership and they will never call me back to replace the rubber grommet so I guess I'll have buy one, its bs they won't replace it. I bet that gormmet costs $20 that should be twenty cents.

I think it's about time you try a BMW Cyclecruza. Take a look at the R1250R, either new (lots of deals now) or used. We know you're all about the low-down torque... that boxer engine has as much torque as a 1290 Super Duke and is just as fast at legal speeds. Plenty of mod potential to make it your own. Reliability? These engines regularly hit 100k miles and easy to work on yourself. Just need an app and a dongle to reset the service light yourself. All these years and never even tested a BMW... at least head on over to BMW Motorcycles of Cleveland and take a test ride. You'll still have the YZ for your hooligan adventures and you can get rid of both the MT-07 and the KTM 690 at the same time. I'm speaking from experience, I had a Tracer 700 with the MT-07 engine... you'll never look back.
