I remember seeing records & hearing stories of my Great Grandfather fought in Korea (And later Vietnam), all 3 years and was a Sergeant in the US Army. I don't know anymore specifics though as he died a few years before I was born. But I know my grandma said he was quite quiet and reserved. May of been what he seen during his time there that contributed to that.
