... MacArthur was a gloryhound cowboy that had great PR. If he was assigned someone who wasn't handpicked, he would have been *_FRAGGED_* if they could get away with it. That's how hated within the general US military was.

@@TheTrueAdept the more i read about Mc Arthur the more i realise he was Crazy af. But his idea to Nuke N.Korea and China was kinda based.
@RingworldTyrant4 ай бұрын
@@TheTrueAdeptExcept that's not true. MacArthur wasn't liked by other *BRASS* and civillian officials. The general public, loved, or at least, respected him, and the attitude would have been similar among his men. He wasn't with the FDR administration's "program", and his vision of the world (and military matters) was simulataneously reactionary at times and progressive at others. It set him at odds with his leaders despite his military achievements. But his attitude and way of approaching things was fundementally *IN-LINE* with the American pysche as it existed among common Americans. He, like Patton, or Curtiss Lemay, didn't fit into the technocratic order that was being established post World War II and that wasn't his fault, but the people he ended up having to answer to. But one man in his position can't stand against that alone, him suggesting using Nukes (in a doctrinal capacity the US already *PLANNED* to do in Europe if the Soviets invaded) in Korea was the excuse to get him out of the power structure, with enough pats on the back to have him go quietly.

I also served as an ROk Army soldier and am currently serving in the ROK Navy OCS. Most Koreans like me are always grateful for the noble sacrifices of our American brothers on the other side of the world when we were at our poorest and most difficult. I am very grateful for this treatment of the Korean War, which is ridiculed as a forgotten war. And at this very moment, I hope that God will bless our American brothers like me who are serving in the military on the Korean Peninsula. WE. GO. TOGETHER. 같이 갑시다. Thx for. Read my words.

People say the Marines retreated from the Chosin Reservoir. When the 1st Marine Division, US soldiers, and remnants of UN forces were surrounded by eight Chicom Divisions. It wasn't a fight over land but survival or destruction. There was no line of retreat to safety. It was an all-out brawl to the sea. Korean citizens were also making up the march towards the sea. The result was the Americans making towards the sea to fight another day. Eight badly mauled Chicom Divisions, two of which were rendered combat ineffective. The Marines, Soldiers, and Korean citizens evacuated from the port. What couldn't be taken onto the landing ships and the port city itself were destroyed by demolitions and naval bombardment. But the Chicoms called it a victory. Pyrrhus of Epirus would have called the Chinese Communists leadership idiots.
@dobridjordje4 ай бұрын
PVA realistically would have annihilated the 1st marine division if that retreat to Hungnam wouldn't have been ordered, most of Chinese casualties didn't come from the US but the fact that they lacked proper winter clothing and a lot of them froze or starved to death. That's what was truly the idiot leadership part, not equipping your troops to fight well at minus 35 degrees Celsius, as troops go PVA and Marines were both battle experienced and merciless to each other but interestingly enough, PVA didn't execute POWs almost at all, vast majority of them survived the war and returned to US but marines didn't really take any prisoners almost at all.
