RB clearly want to give Perez a fair crack giving him its backing at least for now, but he will need to show a dramatic improvement in his next few races if he has any hope of still being there in 2025. One thing in his favour is that even Max has struggled with the car in the last few races. He’s had as many 4th/5th place finishes of late than in the last 5/6 years in total.

Plus youre neglecting the actual pace deficit being abysmally worser than the 8th position suggests. Lando could almost do 2 pit stops and still come out in front of Checo with the deficit nearing the end of the race. Throughout the race, he didnt do a good job at being the 2nd driver and supporting Max as well, hindering Max's attempt at overtaking by giving Russell DRS for so long allowing Russell to defend against Max and waste his tyres. Afterwards, he didnt make it really easy for Max to pass, but proceeded to let Norris through more easily than for Max, and then failed to attack and put pressure on Norris and allowing a large gap to build to Norris. Strangely Leclerc did a better job of helping Max defend against Norris than Checo himself. At this stage, putting Checo out of his misery is better for the constructors, the excuses simply dont cut it anymore. We arent even talking about trying to match Max anymore or come closer to him, he simply cannot even do well in his remaining role of helping Max.
