As a fan of the old Royal Caribbean fleet the news that both Sovereign and Monarch are being dismantled was devastating to hear. They truly were unique in almost every way and in a class of their own.

I sailed on "Sovereign Of The Seas" in 2008...a few months before she was sold. I remember them telling us we made "history" of sorts...and I'm sad to see this...she was a beautiful ship indeed...

I am a major ship enthusiast and seeing these classic liners being beached for their unavoidable fate was one of the most upsetting things I've had to watch. as a Muslim American, my family and I celebrated Eid 2007 on the Monarch. such great memories and so sad to see their end 😥😥

I took a 7-day cruise on the Monarch in '93...the one and only cruise I've ever taken...was very excited to be on that great big beautiful ship. One night, we sailed around a hurricane, high winds outside (amazing), comfortable relatively smooth ride inside (gently rocked to sleep).

Juan Garcia Majesty was my first cruise. I’ve also taken a few on Monarch. I never sailed Sovereign.

Could be docked as a hotel or converted to a hospital ship or given to homeless veterans with a tax write off. Scraping doesn’t make sense unless the company is in chapter 11

I sailed 17 times on the MONARCH AND 2 on the Sovereign. I worked as an embarkation agent on the monarch for 8 years. This is sad!

I think this is sad because they still had life left in them, they are not being scrapped due to safety or just too expensive to make a profit. They are being scrapped to get them off the books as a liability.

Wendy Koek Yes, completely agree. I’ve sailed on Sovereign and loved her. They all wind up there and it is sad. My honeymoon was on Song of Norway and I still miss her.

Sovereign and Monarch were elegant yet wonderfully seaworthy vessels. Their beautiful lines remain now on only one last Sovereign Class ship. I have no interest in ships carrying 5000+ passengers which look more like hi-rise barges than true ocean going vessels, so cruising in the future for me might be no more. Sad that these beautiful ships had to be destroyed. All I can do is shake my head in remarkable disbelief.

I think they will regret getting rid of some of the smaller ships. They may have more appeal than the larger ships. I’ve sailed on Monarch back in 2009, great ship!

I remember going The Royal caribbean ship before these with just a small little lounge in the smoke stack then going This class of ships RC that had the lounge around the whole smokestack was so cool of Thing to me it was one of my favorite things besides the lobby Then I went on a Carnival fantasy in the early nineties to me just equally as cool as a ship but much more modern with the neon lights They both were ahead of its time these 2 class of crew ships started the future of modern cruise ships if you ask me it's sad to see or I should say bitter sweet Royal Caribbean and carnival scrap both of these ships And I'll never forget about it.

I see where you're coming from, but it's really not that simple to convert a ship into a floating apartment block. As it is now, the ships require bunker fuel to operate and there's no way to power anything from shore power. It would be one very, very hefty bill to prepare them to work in such a way. It would be more cost effective to build a building than to try and convert an old ship and maintain it.
