I have never restricted movements as described by this group of experts. Where in the world do we advise post sternotomy patients to not use their arms ? We tell them to actively walk etc and routine activities of daily living and restrict weight lifting more to comfort) . The one thing I say to prevent postoperative complications is to get the patient up about and moving and as fast as possible back to normal day to day routine. We discharge most patients between POD3 to 5 straight to home.
