Welcome back. Glad you're over the illness. As a Cat C who can currently win races, the Racing Score group it put me in felt like "C-and-a-half to B-and-a-half". I stayed with the front group for most of the race, until the mid-Bs took off at a pace I couldn't match. So my category was probably accurate within the new system, but it felt like the outcome of the system would be similar to the current one, just carved up differently. We shall see.

Thanks mate, I’m feeling much better now! I do think the new categories may take a little bit of time to fully work. It’s good to know that race performance makes a difference as well as power, let’s see what happens mate 👍🏻

Agreed, I think there just needs to be another "category" for this to work

Welcome back! I’m always near the back in cat B, struggling to stay in the pack, but I did this same race this week with labs ranking and WON! My first win ever. So yes the new ranking is great from my perspective!

Hi Craig, it’s good to be back! That’s amazing mate, brilliant work 👍🏻 it’s so much more motivational I think, I like the fact it works on power / results and unlike the old system it’s easier to bounce between categories 👍🏻

Good to see you back Ollie. I’ve raced 3 times in the Lab races so far and I’m really enjoying it. Races have been very competitive and evenly matched so far. Feedback seems to be generally pretty positive, think it will still need some tweaks but it’s got to be a step in the right direction. Good luck with the recovery, look forward to seeing what impact a professional trainer can have on your performance.

Thanks Andrew, hope you’ve been keeping well 👍🏻 I agree - so far so good, hopefully they’ll do the tweaking throughout the summer ready for the winter Zwift season. I’m impressed with how it’s working, they’ve done a decent job with it! Thanks very much, it’ll be interesting to see how it goes, I can commit to the training now so I’ll give it all I’ve got 👍🏻
@AndrewisTri-tn1uo4 ай бұрын
I'm enjoying it too. Just the mix up in groups is enough to be an improvement, and then also the knowledge winners will gain rating helps a lot, you can't just sit at the top of C or B winning everything without getting promoted. For the top A's i think the only practical solution is have specific races for them. Obviously if there's only 1 in 50 riders that are 4.5w/kg+, they're not going to have big races every hour around the clock like Cs and Bs can. But if you schedule 2 - 4 races a day that are 'elite', there'll be a much higher chance they will get a decent amount, as people can organise to hit those times. Less convenient, but there's no point at all having 20 races a day where only 1-3 people show up. Really when 3 people show up for a race that's ruining the later the race that only gets 6 people as well, because if you cancelled those early races those people would be much more likely to race the bigger one, and it'd then get 15 people, and now be a fun, worthwhile, competitive race.
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying it too 👍🏻 I think it solves a lot of the sandbagging issues (probably not all) but it’s definitely a massive step forward. It’s also good that there’s a chance to progress through more categories like you say 👍🏻 I like your idea for the top riders, I think it’d be more enjoyable with fewer a races and a larger field 👍🏻

New to zwift. When looking through events I still see rides and races labeled with abcde.

Awesome welcome back! Amazing how much fitness you lost in such a short time, will be interesting to see how quickly it comes back. My racing score is weirdly high, I am getting my a$$ handed to me by people with a much lower score. Still enjoying racing though so that's fine.
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, good to be back 👍🏻 I do tend to lose fitness quickly which is quite annoying but hopefully I’ll be able to get back to where I’m used to being! Strange it’s so high, hopefully racing a couple will reduce it, as long as you are still enjoying it that’s the main thing 👍🏻

While I haven't done a Zwift Score race yet, this system has existed for some time now as those who are part of the more serious side of racing would be aware. ZRapp gives you are racing score and grade based on results in races VS where you should have theoretically ended up. I did the Dirt series earlier this year based on ZRapp score cats and the racing was super close. It's pretty obvious the results should dictate cats far more than just pure numbers can, that's how it works IRL.
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
I completely agree Troy 👍🏻 The ZRapp races were more balanced so I’m glad something like this has been created and rolled out to the masses. It’s good that the system gets closer to IRL, crazy to think it’s been solely based on power for such a long time considering how easily that on its own can be manipulated.

Hi mate! Hope you’re all good 👍🏻 I couldn’t believe it, I was so careful before I went but I reckon I caught it at the airport annoyingly! It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes to build the fitness back but hopefully worth documenting 👍🏻

This is miles better, as a light rider I was always hovering between A and B in the old system. Always finished on the low end in B and got completely destroyed in A. With this new system I am a solid C and can finally compete a bit without getting dropped. Very happy with this and seems like i can finally enjoy racing. The fact that you can finally fall out of a group due to results is great. I was always stuck on A/B while in reality i felt i wouldn’t even be able to win a C race.
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
I agree David, one of the things that used to annoy me was when my fitness dropped and the category stayed the same making it demoralising being at the back of the pack (and being stuck there for 90 days minimum). The new system will allow for this drop, meaning that 1 or 2 bad races should see the category change, which has to be a good thing 👍🏻
@Lacking_something4 ай бұрын
Sounds like me... Started racing a few weeks ago. 66kg, FTP is only 3.3w/kg but I got bumped up from C to B. Went from finishing in top 3rd to finishing in last 3rd.

Thought you’d been off for a while, been checking to see if you had put something new on thought you’d given up and been riding outside more 😂 not sure about the new categories hopefully they will be ok but I think people will still fudge them to suit them for racing well glad you’re back mate and hope you’re feeling better

Hi mate! The dreaded summer virus got me 🥹 I was absolutely gutted I couldn’t get on Zwift or cycle at all, especially after being away, I could literally feel my fitness drifting off into the sunset 😂 Hope you’re doing well mate! Yeah I think it definitely could still be manipulated for the bigger events, hopefully a step forward though! As soon as I’m not completely useless I’ll come and get involved with some ladder racing 👍🏻

Yes I was thinking the same, I think it may take a couple of races for those people that have a decent performance to move into the correct category. I think overall it’ll move people quicker than the historical a-d scoring 👍🏻
@bissellthemissile4 ай бұрын
Not a fan of this so far. I'm a C racer and my race had tons of B racers pushing the pace way higher than what my category is. I don't understand why Zwift sticks to 4 categories. They could move to 5 or 6 categories if there are the numbers.
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
That’s really interesting to hear - I wonder why you had so many B’s in the race? I think Zwift is looking to potentially move up to 10 categories but I think around 5-8 is the sweet spot. Hopefully they’ll sort out any teething problems during this test period 👍🏻
@rdimpact4 ай бұрын
I haven't noticed any difference. As an "Old school D" who just catted up to C, I still get crushed as always. In the new system it's just a few Bs added to the crushers 😂😂
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
I’m hopeful that as more people join races that it’ll properly sort the categories making it fairer. It’s still in an early test phase, we just need to keep our fingers crossed that this works come the busy winter months 👍🏻

I dont know if there are enough people in most of the races i do to have 10 categories. Might be 10-15 people per category
@notpogi4 ай бұрын
I had another look and I think there are 5 core categories - the race here then splits those 5 core categories into a high end / low end creating 5 separate categories in each. I do agree that it may dilute the field maybe too much for those races that aren’t during prime time. Hopefully Zwift will look at these test races and come up with the best solution based on numbers racing 👍🏻

@notpogi4 ай бұрын
Hi mate, I think it’ll take a couple of races for it to sort itself out, it was the same in this race with a couple of really strong riders. 608 is a very decent score - did it reduce after the race by much?

I think if you’ve not raced it’s largely based on power numbers? You must be putting out some half decent power though 👍🏻 Give it a try - would be interesting to see 😀

I'm actually going to say something against the flow and suggest that maybe it won't turn out as people hope & people should be careful what they wish for ...I mean where's the challenge of going up a category? Where's the prestige? I get why people wanted change, and there's definitely an issue with people farming races and gaming categories. But if this doesn't inspire people to race no one will be happy as they'll be empty.
@notpogi3 ай бұрын
It’s always going to be difficult for Zwift to get this 100% right. I think for me I like competing against riders that are relatively similar in ability, and like IRL if someone is winning races consistently then moving up at category seems like the right thing to do. I definitely understand what you mean though - let’s see what Zwift do 👍🏻
