You can shift-click to place multiple of one furniture at the time. Plus isn't the malnutrion in this game about basic meals vs combined meals. Basic is made from one kind of meat or vegetable, and combined is two or three kinds, so you can make only vegetables, if you have all five kinds of red and beige plants. Also, spares and medical supplies need bioplastic, which you only had 2 of or something. (the game has a quite elaborate helpmenu-thinga-me-gick, is it pretty helpful, but I don't want to sound too prestigious, or anything like that)

+LordPizzaJunkie Thanks for the shift click help. And yes, it's mixed meal vs basic meal. I prerecorded a few episodes so I could help out on the forums for a few days after release. I knew a lot of people would need help, so I've been posting on there a lot. The silly mistakes will clear up in an episode or two. :)

+LordPizzaJunkie Yeah! Thanks for that shift + click thingy. I should have known that there had to be something like that. Helps a lot later on, once you crank out complete dorms or fill whole labs with stuff. As for the whole malnutrition issue, I find it helpfull to have some variety anyway, so I actually never had to cope with this. Some fast growing stuff balanced out with some slow growing stuff works out about the same as far as utput goes and gives all the vegies needed for tasty and nutritional salads. Still, it would be very helpfull if the player could set some priorities or if the meal makers would put compatible components like wheat and meat on higher demand or something like that. There's some room for improvement as far as the automated management of the base goes.

(5 years later) If you prioritize too many things, you prioritize nothing. So if you had un-prioritized workers, they would haul more and your medics would haul less.

I can see this is an older version of what I'm playing, the sick bay got medic cabs, to store the medic packs, which makes it simplier and faster to treat injured people

Those medic stations did not have bioplastic in them yet

Your problem with the medical supplies was that you didn’t adjust you manufacturing limits. It's the same with spares ,bots etc.. changing the priority on the facility won't matter with it.

@16:27, it seemed that you need some plastic material as an ingredient for the medical supplies, not just herbs; therefore, you may need more starches.

I did exactly the same thing when I was hit by the malnutrition wave, I couldn't figure out why my medics weren't creating more supplies. If you look closely at the research station you'll see the issue was that both were supplied with herbs, but lacking bioplastic. I experienced exactly the same bottleneck on my last colony, confused me for a while too. Thanks for the vids, keep them coming!

+mako sn Thanks Mako! I try to memorize the different requirements for each produced item, but sometimes I forget an ingredient. I'll have to keep a closer eye on the inputs. I appreciate the comment. :)

Have you noticed there is no bathroom in this game ? That explains where the artificial meat comes from. It's made out of poop.

That isn't all they forgot to make obvious since most space suits include diapers. Notice how green and dark the water towers are when full? Why do the humans have no golf carts? Why ... well, this can go on for a while.

Great vids. Thanks for sharing. Btw, you can click the question mark on the meal maker to get a full list of the many variations of meals you can make. Keep posting !

+cONfUSiOUz You're right. Didn't know about the recipe list and was originally under the impression that vegetable + meat = mixed meal. The mistakes will be rectified in future episodes. I had to prerecord some so I could help out new players on the forums for a few days after release.

I am a bit late to this party, but the colony is coming along well, but it appears you may run out of room for more structures. I cannot see the full map area, but it look too tight, unless you can open up one of the valleys. You are likely to discuss this in later episodes I haven't watched yet, but there are useful ratios to use to prevent problems. I think about the work shifts being 8 hours long and plan accordingly for all tasks. If I don't have enough of a specific type of worker to do what I need in an 8 hour shift, I need more, or machines and tasks don't seem to get done in a timely manner. Once the population gets higher, I seem to need one, or two extra workers on the team to keep up with all the tasks since some don't seem to go to work like I think they should and do other things if you don't have too many bots to carry stuff around as needed.

In other words, its not just about veggies/meat ratio, it depends on the crops and meat you are producing, though bioplastic is universal
@wastedwatts

If I was on the design team, I would insist they come up with another thing to take the stress off the bioplastic. After all, who want to have bioplastic in everything?

Wasted Watts eh, there’s a lot of artificial stupidity as it is. In earlier versions, the AI didn’t know how to make non-basic meals when the recipe is provided (I.E. insisting on putting rice in with more rice for a basic meal when there is meat that could make it into a pasta instead). They still don’t to some degree l, but it’s somewhat improved

@@nxterminator5796 Yes, it does appear some basic improvements have been made since 4 years ago when this video was made, but you likely agree more is needed.

First of all, the reason your medics were not making any medical supplies is because medical supplies require both medicinal herbs and bio plastic. You had no bio plastic when you were initially wondering why the medics were not producing. Not sure why they were hauling stuff later on instead of producing medical supplies since you had the necessary bio plastic and herbs at that point. Second of all, the reason so many people are making basic meals instead of mixed meals is because you did not have a good mixture of the correct vegetables and meat to create a recipe meal. It takes more than just having vegetables and meat to create a mixed meal. For example, wheat or maize and some kind of meat create a burger. You had a lot of vegetables, but not all of that was wheat or maize, which means you probably ran out of that to make burgers and the rest of your vegetables didn't fit together properly in a recipe to make some other mixed meal like pasta or salad.

+Amoral Philosopher Thanks for this and you are completely correct. I did some prerecording so I could help out new players on the forums for a few days after release, since I knew there would be issues. I will correct all my mistakes in an episode or two.

I have yet to play the game, really want to, but looked up a lot of forums stuff and things like that Malnutrition is caused by colonists eating too many "basic" meals in a row Basic meals come only from one type of product, there are a bunch of recipes for 3 types of non-basic meals (salad, pasta, and burger) Burgers are wheat/maize and any meat, potentially viable because wheat also produces starch (all starch producers seem to produce at a rate of 2 veggies to 1 starch another thing I thought about was a pasta recipe involving rice and any meat, since rice is a high maintenance/high yield crop that gives starch, but for early game purposes, wheat and meat would probably be the best

+NXTerminator579 You're completely right about malnutrition. I released this video back at release before malnutrition was clearly explained and I had assumed it was meat + vegetable. After I found the recipe list, I assisted a lot of other players by promoting the wheat + meat and wheat + tomatoes strategies, as well as wrote a few guides for the forums about other types of issues players were finding. Your comment is exactly correct. Thank you for sharing. :)

your welcome, and come to think of it, I may have gotten my info from your guide (the irony). Also, I believe new salad recipes were added in 1.0.4 (or at least those seem to be the most significant)

+Good Clean Gaming also, I have noticed a discussion about bars for morale purposes, and I heard rumors about people not getting bored of bars, but alcoholic drinks do cost vegetables, (I am not entirely sure what is available for use in terms of veggies, but I know wheat is available), and I am excited to see a youtuber who gets to comments so quickly, even to an "outdated" video
