This is a bit like comparing BMW to a Homgqi, sure the latter has android apps and lights and stuff but is the driving experience as good? (in this context does it feel as much like writing on paper or not). The remarkable still isn’t beat on writing feel if using the first party pens and that’s the most important functionality for many buying an eink notebook. The stylus and screen texture are matched and I tried different pens and the first party ones feel way better. I own a scribe too and the RM2 feels more responsive for basic things like writing and selecting/moving selection. The extra PPI does not yield better quality writing unfortunately either (on the scribe anyway). The erase delays look quite extreme on the viwoods even though you say it’s faster? And you can disable the RM2 faded erase by sshing into the device but personally I quite like that, it’s a deliberate coded feature, not a bug. I’m very curious about this device but I’m worried the write feels won’t stand up to the RM2 and in other reviews they still favour the RM2 for writing.

Any chance you guys can do a comparison between Viwoods and Boox Go 10.3
@dzapa222 ай бұрын
Well, in any case I continue to prefer RM2. 4 years and still competing. I need zero distractions, for applications I have a smartphone or a tablet. The only thing I miss, it is true, is being able to have books from other brands or from the public library. Thanks

I will be honest, not sure these comparisons make sense in context. First of all the Remarkable 2 is 4 years old and this new tablet just coming out, so yes, the hardware spec should be better and not a big deal to compare (Maybe RM 3 would be better to compare). I think focusing on use cases is a better way to look at these devices. I always had a Remarkable 2 and just got the Boox Go 10.3. I am a technology person, so no issues to learn a new system. The Go 10.3 has a lot more features and options than the RM2, no doubt about that. However, I do believe the Boox could have done a much better job at user experiences and simplicity. I still go back to the RM2 for quick note taking and being organized. I think the viwoods is an eink tablet while the RM2 is a specialized ewriter device. The built in keyboard for the RM2 is still a winner for me, despite the others having bluetooth keyboard options. In the end, user experience is very important which is why RM2 does so well even with limited features.

Since I switched to color e-readers (kaleido 3 screen) it is difficult for me to go back to black and white models, color is very useful for annotations with the stylus, technical documents (graphs, statistics) are more pleasant with color. I just hope than resolution (150 DPI for the color layer, versus 300 DPI for black and white layer) will increase next version of color e-ink screen technology.

1:13 ) For privacy data reasons a big W for RM2 for Cloud services and File sharing. Hopefully kept same format for RM3.

Viwoods has AI running continuously in the background. Capturing everything you write and storing it on their servers. But of course, I’m sure they wouldn’t sell that information to anyone else…like Facebook do 🤔

Could you compare this to the Remarkable Pro?
@christill2 ай бұрын
I do think it’s good that there are these options. I definitely think there is a significant number of people who do just want a digital notebook and nothing else. Remarkable definitely do need a glow light next time though. I think women especially from what I’ve seen really value just having a digital notebook. A lot of them anyway. I don’t want to get into this thing of having something and not needing it. A lot of people are like that. But equally, a lot of people just want a digital notebook. So it’s good to have that choice. And people like Peter should remember that no everyone thinks like him. A lot of people don’t want app stores or SDK support or whatever. They just want to make notes on a device that will last a decade reliably with no fuss.
@BrianHartman2 ай бұрын
I haven't actually tried either of them because they're not in my price range. However, I think it's important to note one thing: Added functionality usually means added cost. I imagine that if you *just* want an e-book and note-taking experience (without all the other apps) it could be a less expensive unit.
@DigiDriftZone2 ай бұрын
Actually no, it’s far more costly to develop a purpose built OS instead of just slapping Android on it.
@shbunderАй бұрын
@@DigiDriftZonetrue, but that’s not really the case, RM is running Linux with a GUI on top, which also is not difficult to make. I’m more worried about the effect of running an OS full of features and drivers that are totally useless on an e-ink display. But I’m not an expert.
@DigiDriftZoneАй бұрын
@@shbunder you could say Mac is just a basic Linux like unix with a gui on top too, but that’s orders of magnitude more difficult than just using android with an app, as Microsoft found out with windows mobile :)
