What sets this film apart from other films, among other things, was the editing. Scorsese and his editor Thelma Schoonmaker pieced this film together brilliantly. Think about it, its almost 2 and a half hours long yet it flies by so fast that at the end your like, is that it ? This was the original quick paced, over lapping sight and sound technique that Martin and Thelma put together and its been imitated to death ever since mostly in action films, yet this film STILL stands out. And the reason for that is Martin didn't rest on the editing technique alone, there is so much more going on with the story and character development, the camera angles, suffice to say Scorsese is a one of kind genius.

Great clip. Not sure if you noticed but as the camera pans round at 2:14 you get a glimpse of Paulie from the sopranos. Real name Tony Sirico. He appears at various other points in the movie as well. He was an actual wise guy and real gangster in the 70's and had many ties with the columbo family. Bit of trivia there

Jimmy Conway was a scary character not because of what he did on screen but what he did off screen and the shit that people spoke about him, this was Deniro's greatest performance but the character was so brutal i can understand why Deniro eased up on the Wiseguy roles after Jimmy Conway.

I think Raging bull was De Niro's greatest performance, Don't get me wrong he was brilliant in Goodfella's as well but I think showed his talent more in Raging Bull

"Before Crazy Joe started a war..." We actually saw that in The Irishman!

I know right! I didn’t really think much of that line until I watched The Irishman then rewatched GoodFellas. The connection is pretty awesome
@p5aipad9712 жыл бұрын
Not exactly, the line in the movie was linking to the first Colombo war, Joe gallo VS Profaci, in the Irishmen it’s the second, gallo vs Colombo

If this is on and I come into the room, I'm pausing everything just to sit and finish it no matter how far in the movie is. Many don't get our love for this flick, this thing of ours.

The look on Paulies face when he introduced Henry to Jimmy is classic, the look of someone who's looking forward to the future prospects of having one of his guys get closer to Jimmy perhaps?
