In many cases in I Ching interpretation, up is the way that we should develop ourselves. However, as the name book of changes represents, we should not blindly trust that everything will get better as we go upward. The first step of development is to make sure that the upward direction is what we really need. In order to do so, sometimes you need to listen to other people, and sometimes you need to have faith in yourself. There is no simple answer.
