This is a fix for many gas furnaces. Cleaning the heat sensor will help for furnace burners turning off and on, and igniting issues. Good luck

Plus one for the fix - this was my problem. Exhaust fan would start to rev up, then stop. Over and over. Called my "furnace guy" and he said everything looked normal, try a new thermostat. Same issue. Went to google. Typed "Goodman furnace tries to start." First result. Boom. Did this and everything fired up like normal. Just goes to show you really can't pay for good advice. So...thank you!

So now this morning, no response whatsoever from the furnace. Thermostat (Nest) is calling for heat, doesn't show a connection error, and the furnace does nothing. Any other simple ideas to try or is it time to call a pro?
@modenim6 жыл бұрын
Sorry but Nest is a newer technology and I'm still in the dark ages with mine. It sounds as though there may be a communication issue between the thermostat and furnace. Try switching off the furnace via the breaker panel and leaving it off for a minute. Switch it back on and hopefully the Nest will reestablish a connection if this is the issue. I'd search youtube for Nest related issues of this kind. Only after that would I consult a tech. Only because you should figure this out should the problem arise again because it will likely happen again.

Your furnace guy is an idiot, a flame sensor should always be removed and cleaned yearly propane furnace especially due to the caustic nature of the gas.After a few years of use they are often pitted badly and need replacement.

Shoutout to this dude for being the real MVP. Woke up on Christmas Eve with the house 60 degrees wondering how I would even be able to get anyone to come out and fix it. Furnace would cycle on and off about 5 or 6 times without blowing any heat, and then just stay off. I took out the little rod, lightly sanded it and put it back in and everything is working fine again. Mine had a little carbon buildup on it that just needed to be removed. Thanks dude!!

Thanks for the video Mark, I had a different problem with my 2 ton Goodman unit, the heater combustion air fan was staying on, the ignitor would come on, the burners would light, then about 10 seconds later the burners would turn off. I then turned the A/C on and it operated properly. I noticed the Combustion fan was running really rough, off balance. I removed the fan and found the top pipe from the exhaust that goes out the roof, there was a big mud dauber nest so big the whole thing couldn't fall into the cage wheel blower for the fan, this was blocking the required amount of oxygen for the burner to stay lighted so the unit was turning itself off. After cleaning, the unit works as it always did. I apologize for crashing your video, didn't know if you had ever encountered anything like this.

@modenim2 жыл бұрын
Is the power switch or breaker to the unit on?
@modenim2 жыл бұрын
@Ahkiana There should be a power supply cable that runs to the furnace. Follow that cable and it should lead to a toggle switch which is typically just like a light switch. That switch should cut power on and off to the furnace unless the switch itself is faulty. If you can find the switch, go to your breaker panel and switch the furnace on and off for there. Be sure to turn that breaker off before attempting anything. If you are at all uncomfortable doing this than don’t. Call in a professional. Good luck

troubleshoot my goodman hot forced air furnace. Heres exactly what happened.. replaced the original thermostat with a smart thermostat and the ROLLOUT SWITCH kept triggering. So I went back to the original thermostat and as I was doing so the R and the W wire accidently touched my screw driver and caused the led light in the circuit board to show that it has no power. Next, I checked the on/off switch. All good, 120V. I then checked the junction box on the furnace. All good, 120V. I then checked the cover switch, all good, polarity tested fine. I looked around and I do not see any burnt wires. made sure there not no disconnected/loose wires, all good. I thought on the circuit board and could I pull a code from there. No light to tell me if there was a code. I have 120 V going to the transformer and 28V? coming out. I checked the 3amp fuse on the circuit board, good. I'm at the point where I think the circuit board is dead but not 100% sure any recommendations #hvac please reach out thanks!
@modenim Жыл бұрын
To be honest, you sound like you know way more than I do. I’d suggest putting the old thermostat back on and seeing if all is good. If so, you may have damaged something on the new unit. Anything new is more fragile than the things of old I find.

If this is the issue, does your furnace not light up at all, or do the burners light up and turn off immediately? Was there a flash code? Thanks in advance..... trying to figure out why my furnace will not light up
@modenim4 жыл бұрын
Hi Amar, my burner would light up and go out after about 5-7 sec. The issue for me was the flame sensor as described in this video. If your furnace isn't lighting at all that sounds like a different issue. Perhaps the issue is the igniter. I'm honestly not qualified to give advice in that regard but maybe it's something you should look into next.
@amarinayat88794 жыл бұрын
@@modenim Hi Mark, thanks for the quick response. I finally solved the mystery on my furnace. I will give a quick synopsis it might benefit someone. ... Goodman furnace was giving 4 flash error code when the thermostat called for heat. Inducer motor would run for few seconds while blower would continue running. Ignitor would not glow. The code is for high limit switch open. However all high limit switches and their wires checked out good. Vacum switch was good too..... anyway, to cut the long story short.... while checking the control board with my meter found a lose solder.... though not visible, but continuity test failed. Soldered the board, and that fixed it...... someone had similar issue it cost them $1,100

I just installed a goodman furnace and it has this same problem. it is literally a few hours old. flame sensor is clean.

Call the installer back to remedy the issue. Should still be under warranty assuming this isn’t a refurbished unit

No error codes. Cleaned the sensor and the ignitor comes on but the the gas goes to on and then off real quick. Cycle restarts and repeats indefinitely. Control board?
@modenim4 жыл бұрын
It’s still sounds like it may still be the flame sensor. Try cleaning it again with some steel wool. If it still fails then it may be the control board. If that’s the case call in a pro. Sorry if this isn’t very helpful

I'm scared to do this but I bet this is the problem based on everyone's comments. I can't afford to pay a service man. Did you turn off the breaker or just the power switch to your furnace when doing this? Do you think tin foil will work to clean I don't have steel wool on hand right now. I'm freeing.
@modenim5 жыл бұрын
I personally just turn off the furnace switch. I’m don’t think tin foil will work. Honestly if you don’t feel comfortable doing this than don’t. With no power to the unit you’re pretty safe but that doesn’t mean this fix is for everyone. Call a local friend or neighbour who’s handy. With any luck maybe it will only cost you some beer 😀

@@modenim Yes! I'm proud of myself as a homeowner and a woman because I feel people try to take advantage of me. I fixed my fridge for a $12.00 part, last time I called for fridge repair it was over $200.00. My furnace won’t turn on once the thermostat temperature drops. I have to turn the furnace power switch off n on then the furnace kicks on and start running. I need your help; it’s really cold. Thanks!
@modenim6 жыл бұрын
Hey Erica, sorry to hear you're having trouble. To clarify, I'm not a gas fitter or hvac professional. With that said, It sounds to me that your thermostat itself may be the issue. If the unit is delivering heat when switched on manually, perhaps there's a break in communication between the two devices. Have you tried replacing the thermostat? There are likely hundreds of "how to" videos on troubleshooting thermostat issues. Assuming this is the problem, you may want to consider starting there. Just be careful and know your limits. Don't do anything you're uncomfortable with.

Soap isn't necessary. The goal is to clean off any black char. It typically scrubs off pretty easily with steel wool

The year shouldn't matter I don't believe. If you can't unscrew it and get the flame sensor out you may have to call in a pro. But, if your stubborn like me try try again LOL. Be safe

I've tried, it will rotate 3-4 turns and then it just stops. It won't budge, I'm thinking maybe I can use something else to turn it from a diff angle. I tried to clean it without removing but it's a tight space and didn't fix it.
@modenim7 жыл бұрын
You're not trying to remove it by hand are you? You'll need a little socket wrench set. You can usually find one at a dollar store, bargain store or definitely a hardware store. Cleaning the sensor without removing it is pretty much undoable

@@modenim well, at some point when this unit was installed, the technician had told me I could light the pilot, but the panel explicitly says not to use a flame of any sort. I removed the sensor and scrubbed it with steel wool and it just won't turn on. I'm seriously wondering that there may not be any gas flow.
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
Most units now don’t have a pilot light but instead they have an igniter. The igniter is located just in front of your burners and should glow a bright orange just before the furnace calls for gas. Here’s a video I found about the igniter kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnKkioCFpbuZY5o
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
The issue may also be a faulty pressure switch which was the case with my furnace most recently. I had the gas valve switched out and the furnace worked for a little while but went again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5DLn6aKopt5a80 BUT once the switch was replaced all was good.
@CNoel-ge9sh3 жыл бұрын
The LED was flashing constantly, signaling reversed polarity. A technician said the circuit board may have been fried because we had some rolling power outages.
