Thank you for helping others. I keep a tote full of gallon zip lock bags filled with snacks, pr socks, deodorant, tooth paste n brush, bar soap n wash cloth. Also keep 2 case of 32 bottled water and canned chilli, beans, Mac n cheese n ready edibles ...In my daily driving in Jacksonville, FL I give to the ones in need. You have given me ideas. I also live in Tucson; I remember a few years ago, I was riding the bus to go to Walmart, when I saw a young couple panhandling at the intersection of 12 Ave and Valencia Rd; on my way back home, they boarded the bus and sat down right behind me. I could hear them talking and asking each other how much they had; they counted the money and had 87.00 total. I remember the guy saying " And people wonder why we do what we do?? We make more out here in a few hours than if we had regular jobs "

You did it again - made me cry. I am blessed that I've always had a roof over my head. As a new teenager my parents took in a lad, not much older than me, who'd been thrown out and was living on the streets. (this was back in the 70's in England). Having him in our home taught me to be grateful for all I had, because he came with just the clothes he was wearing and an empty belly. We weren't wealthy, we had to make do and mend, grow our food, hunt for meat and go without to meet bills, but we had love and security. He finished school and got a job, finally leaving us when he was able to afford to share a house with three others. A hand UP is so different from a hand out, and I know you are giving just that - a hand up, so they can stand, proud and strong as they seek to improve their situation.

I wish everyone was as helpful as you are. The world would be a better place. I used to have a dream of being able to travel the world and hand out money to people in need in various countries, but then I quickly realized how non-sustainable that is given that a lot of people will just use it for addictions. I do hope to reach out to others when I'm in better shape someday...pending Disability at 39 years old presently due to some unexplained medical issues that hit and docs are so far fairly puzzled. Good on ya Michael for helping out so many. I will say that a lot of the people from other countries holding signs...that is a fairly new trend that we have going on here in Atlanta. There are families that go to a shopping center and bring a kid or two and the father might play an instrument to busk or the two of them might just stand and hold signs somewhere. They move from place to place and some of them are unfortunately fibbing in our area about what they're doing and it seems to be a side hustle for them as additional income. I know that because one of my parents works at a business that encountered this scenario and it turned out that they were just trying to get more money. Usually they're on SNAP/EBT, Section-8 and a number of other government benefits here in Atlanta and are living better than some of us that working. There are people who stand at the highway exits with signs here in Atlanta and news crews have interviewed them. They say they don't want a job because they make more tax-free money standing at the highway exits than they would working a job with wages that would get taxed. It's an interesting scenario for sure. Another news crew followed a man who was standing holding a sign and he went home to a house with a new vehicle in the driveway, went into the house and slammed the door while refusing to talk to the reporting team. We have a lot of people living under bridges here, as well. The local news team paid up rent on some apartments for a lengthy time period for some of those bridge dwellers and interviewed them. They helped them with job prospects and virtually everything. The sad thing that they replied with when asked if they would keep working and keep paying the rent was...no, when it ran out they'd go back to living under the bridge. Of course, everyone isn't like that. It's getting so hard to tell who is doing what nowadays in the homeless community.

I was once a sign painter. I made $10 or more for EACH letter, depending how large. You really hit a button, showing that collection. Just what i needed. I could re-open my large home to others in need, but being crippled and unable to babysit , It is hard to watch your clips. Three junkies died nearby here, that is a hard scene too. Best regards.
