I'm sorry you had to go through that and even more sorry for Janey, but she's at peace now. I've seen 4 of my many pets die in unexpected terrible ways, so I can relate. But as you said, in order to go through the highs of loving these creatures while they're here, we also endure the lows. I'm glad you're finding ways to be okay in these situations. Lee, I’m so sorry. My soul mate had a hard ending too. As hard as loosing a furbaby is, when you have to feel the guilt of a traumatic end, there is just no solace or peace or a good memory of the passing. 😢 Stayed to the end to support you. I'm so very very sorry for your loss, it shows in your face and voice how heartbroken you are. I'm so glad that you were with her at the end and I'm sure that on some level she knew you were there 💔.... I'm a cat lady and 12mths ago I lost one of my cats that I had had since she was 8wks old. She had developed diabetes 18mths before and I used to get up at 6am to inject her insulin and again at 6pm. She lost a dramatic amount of weight and the vet said there was a tumour on her liver. She was put to sleep too. Like you it absolutely broke my heart after keeping her going for 18mths. Her name was precious, she was precious by name and precious by nature 😢. I have her picture as my phone wallpaper.......my heart goes out to you, you have a good soul. I'm sure she's still with you in spirit as I know my Precious is. ❤❤

Our bestest dog ever, our 13 y/o beagle Gracie, suffered terribly at the end. It happened very suddenly, also, and despite every effort, we just couldn't comfort her or stop the pain and it was a terrible feeling that still haunts me to this day. So I know what Lee is going through. What makes it even worse is that they don't understand why you can't help them or make it better. No words of sympathy can ease the heartbreak. We just have to learn to carry the burdens that unfortunately come with the exquisite joy of loving a pet. Hope you get some answers soon, Lee.

Lee just a thought for special pets like Janey. Create a room that is cushioned in some way to protect from self harm, especially if there isn’t someone available to be with them 24/7. I remember a time where a child with special needs required a helmet because they would bang their head on the wall. I also don’t know if the sanctuary allows for sedation in an emergency situation like this but it would be worth it. I’m deeply sorry for your loss and what both of you had to endure. My heart weeps but know this that she is running around rainbow bridge with all your other babies.

I'm so, so sorry, Lee. My brother's dog Lacey had some sort of neurological event and couldn't stop rolling around. He to have her put down. It was harrowing and distressing and it was not the end that Lacey deserved. I'm sorry you went through such a traumatic experience and that Janey had to be in so much pain before she passed. Many of the flea+tick and heartworm products out there- recommended by conventional vets- are neurotoxic, and dogs are dying from these products- yet, the FDA- bought and sold by Big Chem, and Big Pharma- continue to allow these products on the market. Choose natural alternatives~ there are ALWAYS alternatives. Something as simple as using cedar oil or lavendar oil on the dog's collar before going out into the fields or woods will repel ticks+ fleas. So sorry for your brother's loss.... :'(

I'm so sorry Lee. I lost my almost 19 year old chihuahua around 3:30 this morning. I understand the stress of not being able to help them pass peacefully. She woke up barking a little after 2 a.m. and just couldn't get comfortable. I did everything I could to console her and finally realized that she was about to pass but it was too late for me to get her to the emergency vet. I held her and loved on her until she breathed her last breath. It's never easy. I expected her to pass because of her age, but was hoping that she would pass peacefully in her sleep. I feel your pain acutely this morning. You are such a blessing to all of your rescues but especially to those with special needs like your precious Janey. I'm sending you big hugs and prayers for peace and strength to continue your journey.

Janey was born with her neurological disorder but you gave her all you could when you adopted her and helped to negotiate the challenges, giving her joy, love, and friends. No small feat. Seems she succumbed to a massive seizure. There is no doubt it would have been terrifying and distressing for you. As well of course the sadness of the loss. I think the vets after seeing the footage will reassure you she was not 'conscious' of what was happening. Love and condolences to you all.

My beautiful black lab Squirtman was healthy except for a sore on her foot. He woke me up in the middle of the night having a seizure that lasted 45 mins. He was settled down for 15 mins and had another one 30 mins. Come to find out the sore in his foot was a fast acting cancer that spread to his brain.

Sending you much love, healing thoughts, and support... 💔🌈🐾🐾 I, too, was wondering if it may have been a huge seizure?... We lost Luna Moon, our beloved, gentle, loving Staffordshire Bull Terrier to a brain tumour at Christmas 2019... She had a massive seizure overnight that she couldn't come out of... our vet came out to us, and he immediately gave her an injection to help sedate her a bit. He reassured us that through it all, she wasn't aware of what had been and what was happening, which was a blessing for her... she collapsed, had been crying, shaking hard, thrashing, drooling, and showing her teeth... we knew immediately that we loved her enough to let her go, so we agreed with the vet putting her to sleep... her final moments were on the bed between us... we gently stroked, kissed, and talked to her as she slipped away and crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈... until we see her again, our hearts will be forever broken 💔🐾🐾

Lee and Crew: we were so broken by Janey's loss. Every time we got to see her having one more day with you all was a gift. We have had many special kids in the past and every day is another magical day we could give them love and new experiences. It is never enough, or long enough. I'm not going to sugar coat it my darling dog died in year 2000 he was my baby he died peacefully. I cared for my mum for 20 yesrs she fied in 3014 my nental health severly cracked up for me it hasent got easier nabbed that's why it hurts when we love so deeply

As a nurse of humans, I can say that as traumatic as this was - there is a good chance she did not know what was happening at the end. I know this offers little solace- but nature has a way of anesthetizing us (the dog, human, whoever) when something goes seriously off the rails. Lee, I had a young puppy several years ago that did the same thing and ended up passing away as well and the vets determined that he had a brain tumor that they believed had caused so much pain that he started slamming his head into the ground trying to stop the pain. It was by far the most painful and horrible thing to watch but because of that I have always had the belief that if I can make even one day happy for any animal then it’s always worth the heartache I feel.

I am so sorry to hear about Janey's passing. I rescued a small dog that I named Charlie. When I adopted him from a rescue, they told me he had neurological issues; Charlie would either get rigid, but be aware of his surroundings, which allowed him to go to enclosed spaces and remain there until it passed, which at times takes a few hours. Normally, when he walks, he can't keep his balance and will walk sideways , he also has difficulty taking a step up due to his imbalance. He is taking Gabapentin, which has helped keep the rigidity under control. I pray that he continues having a fulfilled life. And that his ability to walk continues even though it is being affected by his neurological issues.

I'm only just a couple minutes Ina and I'm balling....I'm so sorry you had to go through this man. She was in agony, she she couldn't take it anymore. I bet it was a hyper firing of the cerebral neurons causing immense pressure (super migraine) and Inflamation of the brain and she just couldn't handle it, based on her condition. She wanted out, and your compassion is what let her not suffer any worse then what she was. Your a Saint man....I'm balling for you . God's loves you ...never forget that buddy

I am so sorry for Janey, for you and for all the other puppies who had to be witness to poor Janey s trauma. I am a nurse and over the years have learned that not all deaths can be easy and peaceful. Most are lucky if they get a peaceful death. But what's important is that we try and do our best and give our love when we can. I'm sure Janey must have sensed your presence during her trauma but what's important is that you knew you were there for her... Through it all you stuck by her. Please take care of yourself and remember the good times with her... Do not second guess what you might have done differently or better... do not go down the rabbit hole with those thoughts.... Unless you can learn something from those thoughts it's best to just keep doing what you're doing and keep giving out all your love for your animals and those around you as you have been doing . You are truly an amazing person and remember that always....

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful friend. Last year, one of our beloved pets was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and sent home with us to live out his last days with medication to make him comfortable. In the course of giving him his medication at home one day, he had a massive heart attack and died, obviously in a very distressed and frightened state. It was a terrible end to his beautiful life and seemed so unfair. He was such a sweet and kind creature. He loved hugs and was a gentle giant. I'm mentioning Tiger because I want to let you know that there are many others who understand what you are going through and that this was one of your beloved friends and how deep this cuts. The life you provided for Janey and love you gave her was beautiful for however long she was able to experience it. She knew she was loved and you had her back until the end. What an incredible gift you gave her! God bless and comfort you in this sad time.

My sons boxer did something similar, hitting her head against the wall. Vet said probably a brain bleed from a stroke. You have done so much for these animals,Janie was loved & will be missed!

Lee, YOU gave Janey pure unconditional love & made her life so very special! So did the pack & staff! We have no way of knowing when or if something happens in the brain…especially if there are no signs. I found out I had a brain tumor purely by accident! No signs or issues prior. I’m not saying that happened to Janey, but I think maybe it was in the brain..& I want you to know that YOU & your staff MADE & MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE to these beautiful souls! She KNEW you were there to help, I’m ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE of that! For some reason, She had no control…She LOVED you, and KNEW you loved her! Your right, it certainly was not fair, not like that…I’m sure the doctors will be able to tell you more soon…..maybe to help others with the same condition? Lee, I am so sorry for your loss! I am not a veterinarian, but it sounds like she was having a seizure! My beautiful golden retriever started having seizures at age 5 and the ones that he had sound very similar to what happened with Janey. Medication only worked for a couple of years before we had to give him the peace he needed. But no matter how we lose our fur babies, it is never easy, the loss is so painful! Sorry Lee for your loss of Janey. Whatever happened, you may never know, but she's NOW dancing in the clouds and free of pain. I COMPLETELY respect your seeing things through to the end, gut wrenching, hard, hurts as it is, you see it through - total respect for you and your Asher House team doing so. We had 3 Furr-babies, now have one and I was there for the 2 until their last breathe. And will do it again with our aging Pitty. They ALL deserve to be sent off with Us by their side, THEY are OUR family members.
