Worst intubation I ever had was in guy with Goodpastures. There was so much blood and lung tissue that came up. It was absolutely awful.

As I have Goodpasture’s and Wegener’s Granulomatosis, do you think that the Wegener’s was the catalyst to develop Goodpasture’s/Anti-GBM? Because I was diagnosed with Wegener’s first then 6 months later developed Goodpasture’s/Anti-GBM.

Had a patient in the ER last week with tachypnea, hemoptysia, anuria and a severe acidosis (pH < 6.8 and HCO3-: 6), we were thinking about goodpasture or some renal pulmonary syndrome but she sadly passed away before we could figure out what she had.

How do you manage it?

@levity90 well it is easier to manage with a transplant however if you are on dialysis it's more of a pain.... I get on a schedule and try my best to stick to it . I set alarm reminders on my phone for medications i follow the crappy renal diet although not very well.. and the most important thing is a positive attitude... don't feel sorry for yourself accept it and try to build the best life you can given the circumstances

My brother passed in 2007 at 38 years old. He first presented with blood in his urine. It sounds like more has been discovered in the way of treatment since his death.

My mom passed away in 2012 and one morning she experienced blood in her urine as well. About a month after her first symptom she was gone. Now I'm a graduate student and the very last assignment I have is a presentation on GoodPasture's.

Question for anyone who has knowledge of Lung function testing and physiology related to Goodpasture Syndrome…could it cause increased DLCO/KCO without any increase in Alveolar volumes? If so what could the possible mechanism be?

So, i really dont have enough knowledge in this area. But passmedicine on Anti-GBM disease says you get a raised transfer factor secondary to pulmonary haemorrhages. A quick google search explains that the additional haemoglobin in the alveoli binds to the carbon monoxide used in the test, thereby increasing the transfer factor. Hope that helps x
