I guess I'm of the mind that I don't care why people are talking about a specific book. I'd probably want their thoughts on that book anyways, so it doesnt matter if they're reading it for GRCA to me. I appreciate them taking the time to make content for me to watch and I'm glad to have their thoughts.

You are not alone! Goodreads content gets old and boring very quickly. The reactionary livestreams (opening round, final round, and winners) are the ones I will to watch because I can see initial thoughts and pretend they don’t exist until the end. I don’t have Goodreads anymore, so those livestream reactions keep me informed.

I agree and to this point I have watched one video (Mara's recent vlog, which almost doesn't count because of the way she went about it) and have scrolled right past every single other video on the subject. I mean the gossip girl in me kind of loves it because it's a little bit of harmless fluff and there's enough overlap on what were booktube darlings and what's just popular with Goodreads that it feels a bit like getting everyone's hot take end of the year round up kind of thing. Do I wish they were more diverse, do I wish they meant more than "had great press" sure but that's not what's going on. Do I wish maybe other more diverse reviewing sites would host their own choice awards so we might have a shot at the diversity, hell yes. And there's definitely part of me that's sad because we should all be trying to move off Goodreads and onto another review site. But I also recognize the algorithm demand and for whatever reasons you throw Goodreads in the title and you're off to the races.

I’m also super bored by these videos. Also, just generally over giving Goodreads/Bezos any more content focused on him. I find this year the content is way down from the people I follow. Most of them did that ‘read them all’ project two years ago and have said ‘never again’. I do find it useful that in the live-setting you’ll often hear someone’s REAL thoughts about a book. Also, lots of people IRL look to me for recommendations and this helps me know what else is popular out there. You’ll get through this Heather, I promise 🫶🏼

Reading vlogs are good background noise so I don’t mind the gr awards themed ones. But yeah the analysis or critiques of the awards are always the same. Goodreads has ?? million monthly users. The majority are not actively engaged in online book communities. I know a number of casual readers irl using goodreads to track.
