You know, a conversation came up on whether the Fat Controller was evil or actually this nice guy who's just understood, and the way he acts in this story and quite a few others disproves both sides of the argument. He's not evil, but he's quick to anger and doesn't think things through. It's not Gordon's fault he ended up blowing past a signal, having to stop hard, and then having his train derail behind him. The trucks pushed him (or in a realistic take, bunched up behind him and overcame his brakes). Knowing that, Gordon shouldn't have been going so fast, but what was done was done and there was nothing he could have done in the moment.

Gordon was ill-behaved with the trucks, so it was his fault. Besides, he was too quick to jump to conclusions. Like Henry said, pride comes before the fall.
