Here’s a few tips to help everyone save on some lumber. 1. Check local sawmills for miss cuts. They serve great for blocking, bracing and some shorter studs for under windows and stuff. They’re usually cheap too! 2. Salvage lumber works great for blocking and bracing plus it can be found free. 3. Watch how you merge corners, you can save a stud or two there. 4. Long walls suck to lift up but a longer wall can usually save a stud or two vs multiple short walls. 5. When two door openings are next to each other use a single header if you can and a nailer in the middle. This saves two king studs and a Jack stud. I hope that helps some of you. Right now every board is like gold! These are definitely some ideas to help when they go to frame that roof. Roofs can soak up a lot of blocking, bracing and nailer strips.

When cutting short pieces use a push stick to hold the work piece. If the blade grabs it it could pull your hand into the blade. Oh how we remember the days of rain soaking everything on our build.... don't miss it at all.

Wow! What a gorgeous entrance shot of the mountain and clouds! I have a suggestion to keep cool Jeremy. Where I live, it can hit the mid-30C in May and June, so when I know I'm going to be gardening outside in the heat, I soak an old t-shirt with lukewarm to cold water, wring it out so that's it's wet "ish" and wrap/tie around your neck. A) it keeps your head and neck cool, gives you something to wipe and wet your forehead when you're sweating. Remember to stay hydrated in such heat. Every 4th bottle of water (2 cups), have a juice or lemonade or a healthy drink. This will keep your electrolytes up and keep your energy going. I've rescued multiple people from the wilderness that didn't take fluids and drink crystals with them and dehydrated on a 5 hour hike because they drank at the beginning but didn't pace themselves through the hike. When the sun hits a light surface, heat is reflected back to you. You'll be surprised at the temperature at the floor level. A simple thermometer works. Lay it flat on the surface and then measure the temp every hour. This can be a fun science project where your children are in charge of reminding you 2 to hydrate and cool off. A long time ago, I worked between the fence of an outdoor market garden. On the street it was 84F, inside the dark fenced in area over asphalt, the temp was 91F. As soon as you enclose a space, heat gets trapped.
