@Jaynes-Path3 жыл бұрын
Wow, a 7'X16' walk in closet is a dream come true for me! That's a Master suite not a bedroom area! Very nice! Black bears usually scare easily with noise. Air horns, fireworks and shooting blanks for a couple days usually encourages Momma to move her cubs to a safer location. If you find a lost baby turkey you can raise it up for a holiday dinner. Sometimes mom can't keep track of them all and with a few slight changes in food turkeys can be raised with the chickens. Keep those eyes open out there.

After living in a National Forest for 8 years my advice is to make noise. When you see a bear, talk to it. “Go away bear.” Honestly, for the most part black bears don’t want to hang about with you. You do have some draws with the chickens and sheep but as you say, the humans are the number one priority. Have bear spray handy. There are bears that develop nuisance behavior if someone is feeding them, and that is not something you can control beyond your property. They are lots of fun to watch and take pictures of though. Just know they are drawn to even bird feeders so minimize that draw. House is looking great!

Living on acreage we had our 2 beautiful Maremma LGD girls who looked out for the whole family but especially the kids when they were outside playing. We don’t have bears but they patrolled the property and all the local wildlife knew it was their territory. One would sit by the youngest while she was playing and the other would take a higher view point and watch. We always kept an eye out but to have that extra layer of security was incredibly helpful especially as we had a lot of snakes. They will train you and the kids and we all knew the snake bark!

Congratulations on the finished framing. Save as much of the scrap pile as you can. When I was a kid, my grandfather would make toys for me from some of the scraps. Later, I did the same for my son. The scraps will come in handy in the shop. While you are framing, consider building one of the small rooms into a safe room too. You need to scare the bear off before your garden and livestock become too tempting for her. I figure the chickens are most at risk. BTW a grizzly bear recently attacked a hiker in Yellowstone. Good Luck, Rick

Be very weary of black bears they are lightening fast can run faster then you on any terrain . They can also climb a tree faster , to the point of waiting for you at the top . Have seen it many times gold panning .

One of my favorite things about your videos is when you talk at the end. So insightful and inspiring and calming. You guys Rock!

Also, just a thought, I’ve noticed that the sliding barn door is getting very popular for bathrooms and you don’t have to worry about the door swinging in or out taking up space. Just FYI. 🙂

I love them but they require so much wall to slide onto.

My very first episode I watched was when you left your old house and hit the road. This most definitely was not a mistake. Your family is thriving . From motor home, to tiny home to your forever home! Thanks for taking me with you 😃

I would get some boat air horns or bellows to scare the bears away when you see them. They will get the idea soon enough. And as you said there is plenty of other space for them to roam...
