From a 20 yr back injury sufferer I'll give you the same advise I gave my S-I-L who has a weak spot in his back also.... STRENGTHEN the MUSCLES ON BOTH SIDES OF YOUR WEAK SPOT. Work on both sides of muscles so they are EVEN. Being EVEN in STRENGTH is the secret to eliminating future injuries. You should have a daily routine of 10-20 mins protecting your back and NOW before starting on the house is time to start. Keep your faith & prayer life strong too. Many blessings from Aussie.🤗🇦🇺

Also if you can see a very good physical therapist to get a good look at your muscle groups and give you an accurate exercise/therapy program! I thought I just had a bad back but I found out my body "reroutes" using different muscle groups than a motion is supposed to use since that one is so weak. My traps are so weak from long term pain and favoring that I unconsciously use the front of my chest and neck instead of using my back. I have to do special exercises that forces me to isolate and actually engage the traps instead of whatever nearby muscles I can use instead. Having a genius therapist can truly help you understand what is truly going on within your body. Another therapist just said I have weak traps and kept me doing routines that only furthered the problem because how my body engages the muscles incorrectly.

I have always heard of putting some sort of steel mesh down on the ground that goes past the structure and buried so predators won’t be able to burrow under the structure and kill the chickens

Don't forget weasels and martens kill chickens up there. A solar powered 1 foot high electric chicken wire fence staked 1 foot away around the outside might be something to have especially were you have the coop at. The martens are the worst predators because their so small and as skinny as a mouse they get in the smallest of holes their fangs are very long they will kill everything in the coop and not eat any of it cause their to small. Their the ninja's of the weasel family.

I can’t wait to build my second chicken coop. Like you, I learned so much from my first build regarding what works and what doesn’t. Any thoughts regarding the prevailing wind direction and how you set the coop direction and that lean-to style roof? Anchoring? Or subterranean border protection from predators burrowing under the exterior walls? Any worries about predators with the coop being the furthest out on the perimeter of the homestead? Sorry, just thinking from a tactical perspective as a cop and not an expertise in chicken farming. I love your design!!

You can always resituate your chicken coop when you move in to your house, but your chickens being that far from the pole barn, is making it easier for predators to not be bothered if they want your chickens, and harder for you to keep them happy. So far your idaho winter has been very warm.but you may yet still have heavier snow. Next to your garden rather than so far back behind it would be a much better place IMO in the long run. There is already a clear space for it and its closer to both the pole barn and the house. Work smarter not harder 🥰 love the progress so far x glad you are feeling better Jeremy!
