This video is #sponsored by #BenjaminMoore. Click here www.inflcr.co/SH7Sr to head to Benjamin Moore's eStore where you can get paint samples shipped directly to your home. Once you chose a color that you love you can purchase your paint online and pick up at your local store! The color we chose is Alabaster OC-129 from Benjamin Moore's Regal Select Exterior line in the low luster sheen.
In today's video we are turning our boring chicken coop build into a cute farmhouse inspired shabby chic coop! We are also finally finishing our massive garden space! Reality hits when 3 bears wander right onto our homestead as we were all outside enjoying the sunset.

I really have to compliment you both on how well you both get along with each other. It’s so refreshing to see. At least you both aren’t choking each other after working together 24/7. I was married for twenty years and we kept it together by having water balloon fights in and out the house and we made an agreement before we got married that when we stopped being friends then we would walk in our own directions and that never happened. He had a stroke 16 years into the marriage and both daughters and I took care of him then in our twenty years of being together we all got the flu and he didn’t seem to recover in two days so I took him to the hospital because he was left by the stroke unable to communicate with us but we still joked that it was the first time I’ve ever heard him shut up. Wen we got to the ER test we’re done and I told the doctors I wasn’t taking him home until they found what was wrong. His blood counts were low and at home he started dropping things a lot. Turned out he had a rapid form of multiple myeloma he died three weeks later. But before he died I sat with my kids and told them not to do or say anything they would regret and the day of the funeral both spoke up as to how proud they were. Four months later my oldest went into the USMC and then graduated from school. The other had a little more hard time with his death but she stays around. I wish more people like you realize it’s about the fun you have together and the love is there and stop the jealousy and fighting. We hardly ever fought. It was more fun and time just flew. Your children are the extension that they see coming from us . We are there teachers and they avoid people who they see tend to fall into violent relationships. They made sure that their future spouses came and talked to me first and if I didn’t approve it didn’t happen. Best of luck with everything that comes in your future.

It depends where you are. In WV where bears are actively hunted, bears, including mamas run when approached. WV has had less than 10 recorded bear attacks ever. One bear was evading hunting dogs, the rest have been associated with bear feeding gone wrong.

Hey y'all. It's looking amazing! I just wanted to address your comments from the live about how stressful it is to get out a video every 4 days. Do we enjoy it? Of course! But will we live if you have to go to a different video release schedule so you're not overwhelmed with all you have to do as a homeschooling, home building, homesteading family? Yes. Yes, we'll live. I'm sure there will be complaints. But your family responsibilities have to come first. Please don't kill yourselves for us. Melissa, get some sleep! From a homeschooling mom of 6. ❤

My second comment, but couldn't let it go by without saying how much work you've all done, and it's the greatest thing that you have all that work captured on video for the future. Not only will it be a place for your children and grandchildren to spend time, but they'll be able to share all the trials and tribulations and the happy moments too, that you went through, just like we are able to now. A BIG round of applause for all you've accomplished so far, and all we get to share with you going forward.

100% true. Just make sure your garbage is not accessible and they don’t smell it because even in your garage if they can pry their way in, they will. I lived in North Idaho for many years and we only had one bear visit, that I know of, and she had a cub and I took my pistol and shot it ,just for noise, and I heard a noise go up a tree so I knew she had a cub. It was dark. She wasn’t leaving she did the over the shoulder look like no, I’m not leaving. So we took her garbage took it in the house and shut all the doors and waited her out and pretty soon the cub came down the tree and they left. I had horses at the time and we had a moose go through the property and my big half Belgian half quarter horse mare charge the fence to get her, the moose, thank goodness it was stronger than her because I think my mare would’ve got out and challenged the moose.

We were wondering when you would post a bear or mountain lion video. We're to the East of you and spring time is bear time. We had a black bear looking in our window this past Sunday. Glad he didn't break the window before I scared him off. I'm not generally an advice giver because people are going to do what they want but, bear spray is a must in your area. We carry it anytime we're outside our house. Also, if you like your chickens, you might want to put up a hot wire. Come fall those bears will be looking for chicken on the menu to fatten up for winter. Wish you the best of luck with your home build and all your adventures.

Yep add a hot wire or two, for predator control. Guy I know up in Montana has one around all his animal pens, AND most of his house, to keep out everything from foxes to bears and mountain lions. He lives WAY out in the boonies. Has to drive 30 minutes to get a cell phone signal. Way off grid. Well, solar power, wood heat.

The drone is a great tool to chase the bears away. I wonder if you should each have a can of bear spray around at all times. I probably would be smart to have a rifle or 2 loaded and ready to go, something large enough to get it done if need be. Maybe some kind of driveway and perimeter warning system? Can that bucket reach over the side fence to dump chips, rather than using the wheel barrel? You might want to take the chicken decoration off the coop because now the foxes, bobcats, etc. now know where the chickens are hiding. lol Have a great week

Lol... as if the silhouette will guide predators... they can smell them a couple miles away... besides their clucking is an open invitation. When we had animals on our previous farm, we kept Peacocks. They are the best warning siren around. But they need something tall to roost in at night or put in the closed barn.
