When stringing guitar, I keep original packaging and also record the date, to put in the guitar case as a reference of time. There will be no doubt as to how old the strings are.

When tightening the truss rod, always loosen string tension first. When loosening the truss rod, loosening of the strings is not necessary.

Dane, I really appreciate your attention to detail and giving the kind of service to these lower-end guitars that you do. A real bargain for what you sell as a $100 guitar. Those old Affinitys were very well-constructed. Your visual on the electronics confirmed this. I am glad you see the value beyond the price tag of these kinds of budget guitars. Thanks for these videos. Like Phil McKnight's channel, its like we are just hanging out talking guitars at the shop.

Nice vid as usual! I have one of these, more recent one with a nice fake quilt top. When set up well they are fantastic guitars Regarding stickers- if I don’t have Simple Green I use fretboard oil. A little on your finger and rub it in. Let it sit for awhile. Rubs right off.

If the whammy bar is still too harsh you can back off the middle 4 screws on the bridge. Essentially turning it into a 2 point bridge. I’ve done this to dozens of Strat type guitars and never have had issues with tuning or cracks on the body.

Another trick is to put some graphite on the nut. You can use a lead pencil to accomplish this. Another thing that can be used to clean off a label is Zippo-type lighter fluid (Naphtha), which also removes rust.

I bought a Squier Telecaster in 1984, I went to the guitar store in the nearby town to buy a Fender Telecaster after saving up for most of my life and running 2 newspaper rounds, when I got there they had 3 Fender Telecasters and all 3 had manufacturing issues, I was about to leave and get a bus to the city and see if they had something better when the salesman brought out a Squier Telecaster for me to try, it was like night and day, the build was perfect it sounded amazing and it was much cheaper than the Fender, I could not figure out why it was cheaper, I had never heard of Squier before that day and at first I thought they had made a mistake with the price, I bought it and still have it today, I would put it up against any Fender USA or MIM, over the years I have lost count of musician friends that have asked for first shout if I ever decide to sell it.

Nice clean up on that Squire Strat! Looks like it is in good shape (minus the ding on the body that you pointed out).

My goodwill never stocks guitars, they send them to their online auctions. I would be thrilled to find an affinity for $50!! I upgraded one I got on Craigslist and it sounds amazing after a pickup swap and hardware upgrade.

Absolutely the number one reason I had to bring my brother in law in for his first guitar. Five star treatment! Squier was my first electric probably made the same year as this one! I still have it!

I agree Dane they are really good guitars and can be awesome with some love. Very cool of you to make them available for $100 bucks! I have taken dozens of those now over the last 10 years and turned them into guitars that play as good as a guitar can play,(better than most).... just takes some effort and maybe a set of tuners.

It seems that when I tighten my truss rod, it gets harder to play. Yes the strings are further away but it's easier to push. Intonation becomes more difficult as you go up the neck. Finding that balance is a task.

@@grantkoeller8911 The prices nowadays are ridiculous! In 2018 I bought a Squier Standard Strat for $249.99. One of my best Strats, unfortunately it's discontinued. It feels better than my Mexican Strat and almost as good as my American Strat.

No offence Dane, when one of my clients asks for a Fret dressing then it's the full Monty and i charge a set price within reason of condition. I don't have a store I work out of my workshop. I am based in the UK, i charge less than £60 for a Fret dressing, 30 years experience.
