I’m “that guy” lol I’m on 17x9 +25 with -5 camber and rub with rolled fenders. I want to start getting in to track and have a nice alignment to fit that. I’ll probably need a less aggressive wheel to fit that but I also want a nice fitment for the streets. Also if I raise the car it would help lol. Thanks for the info on the specs helps a lot.

I've had a heck of a time finding wheels that actually clear the accessory MazdaSpeed big brake kit on my NC. PF-01 in a 17x8 ultimately does it, but I've never been in love with the looks of it. Would love to discuss with someone what options I have in the 17" wheel size that will allow caliper clearance and that I don't have to roll the fenders if I run a 235 tire on it. I do appreciate the time you guys took with the video here, especially on the older NC cars.

I'm the proud owner of the 2012 NC PRHT, and LOVE IT! I'm running 225/45R17, and want to move to a 225/50R17. Can I do that? Fender Roll? Higher suspension? THANKS!!
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
See our notes on tire diameter at 7:00 in the video. A 225/50/17 is almost 26" tall. On stock suspension you might be OK but that's too tall for a lowered NC unless you limit your suspension travel by half an inch or so by adding spacers to your bumpstop so you bottom out the suspension sooner (before the tire hits the top of the wheel well), but that means you'll be riding on the bumpstops very often. We wouldn't recommend it. The 25/45/17 is a much better fit for the NC.

Love all the knowledge you guys are sharing! Any comments on when an 18" wheel would be a good option for an NC?
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael. We covered just 17" wheel sizes here because 17" is better than 18" in just about every way. 18's are heavier and thus hurt ride quality and performance. The one situation where we do sometimes run 18's is when for a certain competition class the tire model or size we need to run is not available in 17". Otherwise, we recommend 17".

@@GoodwinRacing1 Gotcha! I have some 17x9 +45 RPF1 on mine right now, but the tires are some 215s from the pervious owner. Would love to go up to a 235 to put some more tire to the ground. Right now the only other modification are some Fortune 500 coilovers. Would you recommend upgrading sway bars and links first, or do you think I would I see more grip/stability from the tire upgrade before sways? It's mostly a street/canyon carver.
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmartin4111 Love those RPF1s! You're just a fender roll away from being able to run 235 or 245 tires on those wheels. Ultimately, you'll probably want to add sway bars with the added grip, but there's no right or wrong answer on which order you do it in. Which sway bars will be right for you depends on how sticky of a tire you go with. Check out our RoadsterSport sways if you're sticking to a standard street tire, or Progress sways if you're doing a sticky summer high performance tire.

Aren't the NC 16" wheels 16x6.5, not 16x7? I ask because I want to fit 225x45 R16 tires on the stock 16" wheels but the specs for the tires say the minimum wheel width is 7" so my understanding was that these wouldn't fit.
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a 16x6.5" factory wheel. A 225/45/16 will fit that (many popular tire fitments deviate from manufacturer's "recommended" wheel size) but that's going to be very wide for a 6.5" wheel. Would work on the street but we wouldn't do competitive driving on that combo.

I currently have on my 2014 NC ( on stock suspension ) 17x7.5 +35 with 215/45 tires ( indy 500s ) and I'm currently tramlining and having a bump steer effect going on.. alignment is -1.4 camber all around and caster is around +5. Any advice?
@briangoodwin2862
@briangoodwin2862 2 жыл бұрын
For the tramline you can usually dial that out with some alignment toe in all around. We like toe zero and even toe out for autocross but tramline is increased, go toe in with same numbers all around to cut that down and that's what we typically suggest for non racing street users. On the bumpsteer, wheel offset is likely the issue, scrub radius error is just a bit much when you push way out to 35mm. You could easily run same tire size at 40mm or 45mm offset and each step inwards would mean less scrub radius error and less bumpsteer.
@absoluteclownworld

@@briangoodwin2862 Okay thank you I will add a little toe in front and back. Also I will have to save up for some different wheels then, guess I'll go 17x8 +40/+45, using same tires. Thanks.

What is your opinion on Staggered setup like 17x8 215/45 front and 17x9 235/40 rear?
@briangoodwin2862
@briangoodwin2862 2 жыл бұрын
We much prefer a 'square' setup, or same size all four corners, for a car like the Miata that has a 50/50 weight balance. Easy to run 235/40 all four corners, then you have a balanced setup, can still rotate tires, etc. You can use 235/40 on 17x8 for street, or 17x9 for track. See NC wheel intro page and 'max size' tab for a lot more detail. www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Parts/MX5/Wheels-Tires.html

@@GoodwinRacing1 Ah! Good thought. Thanks for letting me know. Does it also follow that there's yet more tyre choice with an 18x8? Or does that involve more lowering, camber, and rolling?
@GoodwinRacing1
@GoodwinRacing1 4 жыл бұрын
@@demon1954 17" has the widest variety of tire options in sizes that work well on the NC. 18" tire selection is better than 16" though. We never run 18" wheels on the NC because the 17" is lighter... the only exception is on some of the pure race cars when we want super wide rubber and they don't make 17" wheels wide enough, so we have to move up to 18" for an 18x10.5 or 18x11. But for 10" wide and below, there are plenty of great 17" options and those will ride and perform better than the heavier 18".
