The downward-facing nozzle on the air filter is not the inlet. It is the outlet for the particle separator. In the J.D. Tractor manual, you are supposed to give it a squeeze periodically to open it to allow trapped grit to escape. The air enters from the backside and does a reverse direction inside the filter back to base and out a different pipe. You'll be fine!
@user-wu9dn6sl9y3 жыл бұрын
Your exactly right
@GoodWorksTractors3 жыл бұрын
If the entire head of the filter is clogged, then it's a problem. This isn't my complaint necessarily, but is a widely known complaint voiced by folks who have owned this Series. Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought it up. As several others commented in this video, JD introduced a filter mod kit to relocate and address this concern.

The air box design has been an issue literally since day 1. The very first machine our dealer sold (it was one of the first ones in the area as well) came back within a week due to customer complaint. This is a great video; nicely done. I've been considering a Gator but have recently been leaning towards a Honda Pioneer 700, after hearing of numerous and varying complaints about the Deere SxSs. I've had John Deere tractors/ products in the past and have never had issues; Deere has remained incredibly reliable on those fronts. However, from what I've learned through research is that the Deere SxSs seem to have a lot of common mechanical oriented issues experienced amongst owners. Also, the Honda that I've been considering allows for a smaller and lighter in weight unit while still having the integrity and build quality as well as retaining the higher payload and cargo carry capacity. I'm still on the fence and really want to justify the Gator.

I purchased a 2019 835m with a gas motor and Boss V blade. It does not have the cab nor is it as loaded as yours but I bought it for $15,000 with a few hours on it. I find this little Gator to have more spunk than I was counting on. I really thought it would be a dog but was happily surprised. Careful if you put a hitch in the receiver and tilt your bed all the way up. IT WILL HIT AND DENT YOUR REAR TAIL GATE. Popped back but left a little distress mark on the gate:( Lastly mine runs at a top speed of 45mph. The governor keeps it from going any faster and frankly that is fast enough for me. This is my first UTV and I absolutely love it. I do agree that the transmission engagement lever is not always very friendly to engage. At this point I have 140 hours on it and it has been problem free. All the best! Jeff

We have the 865M model for a little over a year now. 170hrs on it. Full size truck vs Gator isn’t the best comparison. The best explanation for this is driving the unit around the property for small chores. Moving firewood, moving hay for the animals, taking the trash the half mile to the end of the driveway. My wife can back this up without jackknifing it. She is the smartest woman I know, but she can’t back up a trailer to save her life. This unit is fun to drive, aggressive tires go anywhere and 11gal diesel tank is massive. We wish we purchased it earlier. Enjoy what it does well. No radio wanted on our unit either. Trick to shifting a CVT trans is you have to take your foot off the gas to get it to shift. I've seen people break shifters off trying to force them.

Well the 3 cyl gas motor with 54 HP does 45 mph. While diesel with 22 hp does only 32 mph. But I am sure if all things being equal the diesel would have more low-end torque. But a CVT will always rob low-end torque. This Gator needs a sequential shift manual.

As far as your concern about the gear selector while plowing there is actually an easy solution for that. Not sure if you knew this but the “John Deere” branded plow on your gator is actually designed from fisher plows made up here in Maine. I’ve plowed snow commercially for 10+ years and my first setup had the same plow control joystick as your gator and you are right it is a pain in the rear end having to steer, shift, and control plow with that setup. But I then got the handheld controller that is called the fish stick (fisher plows product name) with this style controller you can put your hand anywhere that’s comfortable while plowing including the shifter and be able to push the buttons to move the plow at the same time as shifting. Makes it a lot easier and smoother. Also the more you use this hand held controller the easier it will become because you will find a way to hold it that works best for you and have the muscle memory to push whatever button you need without even looking at your controller. Like I said above even though your plow is branded as John Deere they actually copied everything about it from fishers trailblazer UTV plows. So if John Deere doesn’t offer the hand held controller then find your closest fisher plows dealer or just order online. As long as they have the matching electrical plug connectors they will work.

John Deere should make a Crocodile; big brother to the Gator. So, the "Croc" would be hydraulic with a minimum of 50 diesel horse power. Immediate attachments that come to mind: snowblower, blade/plow, bucket, grapple, sweeper to name just a few. John Deere has had plenty of time to expand their UTV offerings, and haven't, why? Doesn't Bobcat have 2 different versions; a 25 HP & a 50 hp? I've heard the later is a $50,000.00 machine, but it can handle all of attachments I just suggested for the "Croc". The new 2021 has and different transmission with an integrated park. it also has an electronic switch for Diff lock and an upgraded display screen. There is also an elevated air intake that draws air from the top of the cab. They also upgraded the Power steering to a heavier duty unit.

I work at a JD dealer in west Texas. We also had a lot of issues with the air filter box location. Out here in the dust the air filters would clog up within a week. We ended up fabricating a snorkel that reroutes the air suction to under the green top. Per our sales guy, Deere is releasing a factory snorkel kit sometime this year

We love our Polaris Ranger. The deere was not an option as we use it recreational as well on our farm but for recreational there just is not enough ground clearance and air filters and a lot of other things. As far as the CVT you could always add a clutch kit to get you more off the line speed and top end. Lots of people make the after market clutches and they are easy to install . The plow hurts the speed a bit as well I'm sure.

@@edwardwood6532 Our town parks department has one, more or less it's used for fairly light duty stuff. It also sounds like a chainsaw when it's running around which I find odd. The town has a variety of equipment and the most expensive of it is a pair of Trackless MT tractors used for plowing the sidewalks in the winter and grinding down uneven sections of said sidewalks. They have other attachments on them but mostly winter sidewalk maintenance. I think our town was out of its mind when it bought a brand new Deere tractor instead of sticking with Kubota or New Holland. Although, it does have a large Deere front end loader for plowing the smaller streets in the winter (I find this weird since it's bigger than the plow trucks and has no salter, turning the neighbourhood streets into ice hazards) The other thing the loader is used for is loading yard waste into a tractor-trailer in the warm seasons. I think we all need to start reconsidering Japanese machines like Hitachi, Kubota and Komatsu as they value having things made in the countries in which they are sold. Deere and Cat basically said, "We're too greedy to pay the wages of workers beneath us so we are moving to Mexico."

Diesel tractor and zero turn. It’s currently at the dealer for annual service and to get a winch installed. Road speed of about 30 mph is fine with me. I mostly drive in a field or woods. Great low end torque. I pull logs out of brush or swamp occasionally so the winch will be handy.

Batteries on the JD tractors - UGH! I have a 2017 1025R with only about 110 hours on it and had to replace the batter a couple of months ago. What a hassle! I couldn't do it with a bad arm / shoulder - the angles and weight of that battery were too much. I had to have a service tech come out. He had to take out a headlight - the full assembly, not just the bulb - detach the battery, angle it up on it's side and still barely slide it up past the bolts that hold the headlight assembly in place. Absolutely ridiculous. Nice Gator rig, though. I wouldn't have a use for it personally but it looks like a lot of fun.

Own an 835R model with almost 10,000 miles, best thing I ever bought. You are way too critical of an excellent machine. The only complaint I have with mine is plowing snow and backing up the 4wd doesn't engage until it sees 3 mph wheel spin. Maybe try gas model 45 mph and for as heavy as it is goes plenty good.

Good video. I am in the market for another XUV. I have owned a 855D diesel Gator for 11 years. For the most part, it had been a good vehicle, with the exception of the electric power steering constantly throwing a fault since it was new (which the dealer can't figure out) and having to replace the centrifugal clutch drive. But I see, not a whole lot has changed in 11 years on the diesel models, except over doubling of the price. Same tailgate, same clutch, same steering, etc. I am now seriously looking at the Kubota RTV-X1100C. The diesel has more HP, it's drive system is hydrostatic, the dump bed is fast hydraulic as well as the steering is hydraulic. The cab is air tight with metal doors. The top speed for the Kubota won't be as fast as the Gator, but I am not buying it for speed. The best part about it? The price tag for the Kubota is almost $9k cheaper than the Gator. Keep putting out great videos like this one. I just subscribed to your channel.

can u run ur rear winch with the plow hooked up at the same time? just wondering cause on mine(835r-gas version) it can not be done-u have to unplug the plow and then hook the wire for the rear then. i thought that was quite dumb-as when u get stuck plowing snow-then u got to mess with them big plugs to make ur winch work for ya. now that was very disturbing to me. i changed out my tires too, on blacktop u couldn't stand it with the window up--so wondering what type tires u have there, that u think its so quiet in the cab? i have the same plow-except mine is the straight blade. it gets easier the more u put it on and off. just watch the pressed in zerks-they like to stay hooked to the grease gun tip-when u go to take the hose off-ha! gotta drill em, ad tap threads in, then they stay where they should when done greasing.

I’ve been looking at side by sides for years and they have come a long way as far as performance and creature comforts, but the main thing that keeps me from buying one is the price tag. I can’t justify spending $35,000 on a side by side when I can buy a good used Toyota Tacoma 4x4 low mileage truck for example that can do everything that a side by side can do minus the tilt bed for far less then $35,000.

I haven't owned a gator but I have had a 700 rhino that I was ok with until a bearing noise showed up in the trans. That the dealer said they couldn't hear. And this was less the a year old at a year and two months I was on a long ride and it got bad fast when I took it back in they could hear for sure it hurt your ears it was so load. A friend had the 850 gas that they brought in and I road it around a little. It was enough I always said if I was going to buy another side by side is was going to be a gater. My uncle had a attic cat and ling story short he had problems but but how has a gater. Now I know all will have some issues but the gaters seem to only have typical ones. Brakes, wheel bearing, ext. But after this video I'm liking the heat and ac cab. I will go with the gas one do to the fact of the benifit ride we go on. The ac will be nice so we don't breath so much dust. Be the most I'd use it but the heat I would use more for the plowing show checking fence feeding cows. So this gater is one I'll look at the hardest.

I'm going to go ahead and throw my 2 cents in. I bought a new 835m (gas) hvac the week before Christmas and it replaced my 590m gator i had. I have put almost 400 miles on it and it's a good machine. It is a cross over and you can hit the trails with it but this machine was designed to be a work horse. I use this machine on my farm and for my property management business. The low end pulling power is very impressive and speed is good. This will not replace a tractor by no means but makes a good support vehicle and one heck of a deer stand. I was kinda worried about the cheri engine that this machine uses (It's Chinese) But so far has performed well. My only con with this vechicle is it uses a lot of rpms to move and stays around the 4,500 range under light loads. Best i can tell is max rpms is 6000 to 6500, so basicly you are running the engine fast all the time and in my pea brain thinking will wear out faster. I would love to see a lower speed clutch, are at least give me the option to adjust. Over all i love this machine and so far has served me well. The price is what you expect to pay for something with a cab and air, just my 2 cents.
