My cousin reached in while a PTO was running. It caught his coveralls and flipped him over the top. His coveralls tore which saved his life! When I was little, I was riding on the back of an Allis Chalmers WD with a hand clutch while my dad was driving. When Dad lifted the 3-point, I screamed because my foot was being crushed by the top link. He had immediately lowered it before it injured my foot. I watched as a hired man relaxed and placed his hand next to a spinning chain sprocket on a potato harvester. It ripped the tip of his finger off in a second. Someone in the community was pulling something heavy with a rope on the drawbar connected to a chain. When the chain broke the rope slung the chain at him like a sling shot and killed him. I feel a cab is safer than an open station in some cases. Enough said.

Mike Morgan, Outdoors with the Morgans, made an interest comment on recent episode while he was working snow with a plow and a back blade. He said that a plow is more effective on roads whereas, the snow pusher is more effective on parking lots. He also showed in the video that the back blade worked great on removing the snow from the garage doors. What are your thoughts?

My experience with turf tires is that the openings fill up with snow and don't clean out very well. When I farmed, I was surprised to find that single rib tires work very well as front tires on deep snow. They cut through the snow and were the best for turning.

You've convinced me over the years that a snow pusher is the best all around value for utility and economy. 🚜
@garrett899416 сағат бұрын
As someone who’s plowed snow with a rear blade their entire life. 1 reverse the blade and drive backwards, you can put the edge where you want it and not have the trailing or compaction issues. 2 you have to make piles away from your driveway early in the year. I do one at either end, then you push your snow through the yard and pile it up
@GoodWorksTractors8 сағат бұрын
Perhaps if you had a very short driveway. Driving backwards for long periods of time is brutal on the neck and back. That rules that option out for me immediately. Glad it works for you.
@ronnovak16047 сағат бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors I did this for many years, with a long driveway, using an old John Deere B. While yes, you are backing up all the time, it did a great job.
@green-zone3618 сағат бұрын
The snow pusher is good for parking areas and large spaces but if you have a long driveway or woodlot roads the angle blade is best. It is better at moving the snow off to the side. Get a blade 1 foot wider than you need. Now head down the lane and watch the snow roll off it.

I'll beat ya with a pusher :)

@Frontpagefab2 сағат бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors I'd like to see that. Seriously, I'd like to see it tested. I see the benefits of a pusher in certain areas, but when running a long lane or road it seems like a plow would be the better tool, especially with angled wings on them.

Here's something that's not intuitive to a lot of people that plow snow with lighter equipment. When theres a fair amount of snow, you should someetimes start plowing where you want to end up. Meaning you need to clear the area where you want to pile the snow, first. This prevents the wind-rows from being to heavy or large to effectively move, and stips that loss of steering control. This goes for all the small farm tractors, skidsteers, and pickup trucks guys.
@GoodWorksTractors19 сағат бұрын
Yes, but it does create more overall passes. I prefer a pusher over a plow. Minimal windrows, evenly dispersed load that doesn't cause steering issues, no extra connections like hydraulics or electric. Some folks prefer a plow though.

Why don’t PTOs have a reverse? Or at least the attachments have a gearbox that allows you to reverse the rotary? post hole diggers, tillers, rotary brooms, etc
@GoodWorksTractors19 сағат бұрын
Probably lack of space and cost considerations. Would certainly be nice to have for some attachments.

I have a 60 inch loader mounted hydraulic angle plow on my 1025r. Your are right. There is a learning curve on operating one of those things. If you have the loader arms up a little then tilt forward the plow will dig in. If the blade is angled left or right the leading edge will dig in too. Tilt back and the loader arms will drag on the ground. Skid shoes are hard to get at the right setting. Best thing I do like is I can pile the snow 6 feet or higher and I can push it farther off the end of the driveway. I think it has more disadvantages than advantages of a regular frame mounted plow. I have several 400 foot gravel driveways I plow. Put a 2 inch pipe on tbe cutting edge. Makes a world of difference not picking up the gravel. Snow pusher might be better on a short driveway but not on long ones.

@@rodbagley1686 I’ve got a 1/2 mile of drives, mixture of gravel, concrete, and asphalt, and will clean it quicker than anyone with a plow. I’ve used every tool that is known to man. Blowers are the fastest as long as they work…don’t clog, don’t break a shear bolt, and have enough snow. Downsides to every tool I suppose.
@mrsleeve325is22 сағат бұрын
Back blade spun around to push in reverse where all the weight is (assuming loaded tires) keeps the steering intact. Loader bucket on the front to stack the piles up when you need to make more room after a long plow season, when room at the end of the plow runs gets scarce.
@GoodWorksTractors21 сағат бұрын
The surface in this video is part concrete, part crushed limestone, part grass. Skid shoes or runners are required along with a lot of start/stop and finesse. I would never want to tackle all of my 1/2 mile of drives plus huge parking pads going in reverse. My neck and back hurt just thinking about it.
@jamesb12020 сағат бұрын
