It's been a year and a half since our last episode of "Tractor Talk," where we cover all sorts of topics like safety, cool tractor mods, tractor projects, interesting forum threads and more. And today we also have huge news from Summit Tractors that will benefit not only existing customers, but future customers as well.
Good Works Tractors is happy to be sponsored by Rim Guard Solutions! This is perhaps the most well-known ballast brand on the market today. Rim Guard goes right inside your tires, so it's out of the way, it doesn't freeze, and doesn't corrode. It's made from natural materials, so it's safe around livestock and pets if it spills out. Rim Guard liquid ballast adds more weight to the back side of your tractor improving stability, loader performance, and power to the ground. Find your closest dealer at bit.ly/3d0whX0

So with all your trees, I’m sure there are enough where you could mill out some posts and lumber and all it would be is your fasteners and labor - besides the cost of the mill! Would be a good project to watch! Always thought a pad like that was a good idea for implements versus just sitting in the grass.

Implement pad: I use "Horse Mats" that are used inside horse trailers. They are about 3/4" thick and heavy. Variable sizes but mostly 3x5 or 4x6. They are about $75 ea.

Actually mowing your tall grass every once in awhile will drastically lower the amount of ticks and chiggers. Also it reduces the amount of fire ants ( not a problem up north). Cut it in stages so they have multiple levels of growth to use.

I still think someone should make a mini grader. Something like that would have been ideal for your equipment pad and any future road projects. The 3m hearing protection looks like a good thing to get before you need hearing aids.

If you're looking for roof covering... check out mobile home trusses! They're pretty cheap. They're at least 12'-14' wide... you can raise them with 4x4 and 2x6's.

I also have 3M Worktunes that I use while driving my tractor. They are sturdy, comfortable, block outside noise (can wear at a gun range, for example) and the sound quality is pretty good. I would also submit that wearing glasses with ANY headphones is going to get uncomfortable after a while and can cause headaches. It is best to move your glasses up and down a bit every so often.

Cover that pad with a solar roof. Get power offset benefits with the benefit of covering the tractors from most weather. I’ve been using the 3 m muffs for about 10 years (the single button Bluetooth version in yellow and black) on my z turn, 1 series, and sanding f floors without any issues. Battery lasts a good long time, days if you keep the audio volume lower to moderate.

I would say for your troubled food plot area with the random corn and other grasses. I would just till that all in as green manure and plant in some turnips and radishes yet for your Brassicas. Deer will eat them all winter and early spring.

Been thinking about it. Part of the reason I planted it was for vertical cover/screening. I walked it a bit this morning. It's fairly thin, but a wide enough patch that it still might do the trick for a screen/cover layer. I'm torn on what to do.

Another great video, I have some covered buildings for most of my implements with moving parts, but dont mind leaving the land plane, box blade and a scraper out in the elements, but prefer to keep anything with a gearbox or exposed cylinders out of the weather, now I'd like you to explain machinery's natural attraction to water, especially a zero turn😳😂😂 😂, but your advice is dead on regarding getting on steep wet slopes, they can be deadly😬😵🙏

I agree with your thoughts. I am hopeful that Summit will be the next big brand. I am a business owner and have watched all the vids, it appears they are taking making the right moves to succeed. However, I would never buy one without the dealer network established. Same principle for a boat, rv, atv and ect, dealer/service is everything. Best of my knowledge, Summit does not have a strong presence in central Indiana. I may/could own one someday, but it's not today.

@@davepowell8389 The Summit TX25 is a Solis H24 (also made by ITL) styled and optioned to Summit's specs. Both are copies of the Mahindra Max 25XL, and all three use the same Mitsubishi engine and other major components. Summit themselves has acknowledged that there are 18 SCUT brands, but only 8 manufacturers behind them. Like back in the day when Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury all shared the same underpinnings from the same suppliers, factories, etc. Options and styling differentiate them. If you have a Mahindra dealer nearby service shouldn't be a problem.

Courtney I did have a question for you and anyone else on the landplanes. Do they come already adjusted to make a crown or do you adjust them for a crown? I would think for this pad and a parking lot maintenance that you wouldn't want a crown like you would for a driveway?
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 10 ай бұрын
Hey Jim, the plane isn't crowned, it just has offset edges that will send material left or right. So, you can go the opposite direction and remove a crown just as easily as putting one in. I currently have virtually no crown on my driveway and used the land plane to make it that way. Long story short, you have flexibility to crown or not crown.

On my LS with over 500 hours. It seem that I need to regen more than I need. I don’t keep track but it seem to run about every 15-20 hours or so. If I neglect my air filter it seems to regen more often. I will continue to work while regen is happening. I don’t hit the switch, kick the throttle up to regen rpm’s.

As an equipment owner operator for 40 years, I personally don’t like fabric. Gives a problem of being dug up sooner or later. I’d rather strip the topsoil, build up with clay then and stone. Still some grass problems occasionally but not a big deal. Operating tip, when grading with bucket, keep a little material in the bucket. It adds weight when start pushing or back dragging.

My M7060 regens often. I use it for loader work a fair amount of time and can not run the rpm's high. Its a manual transmission so keeping the rpm's up for loader work is not an option. Many times I have had to leave it on the governor and walk away for the regen to complete. Drives me crazy. Hate it. I think its time for the tractor companies to start thinking gasoline engines again. I hate to say it, yet these emission systems are not user friendly.

Under 50hp have cheep parts from China and there built to brake... Not thrilled with electric junk either... Truth is Kubota builds the best tractor up to 50hp... But and Korean tractor has the sub compact and compact JDs beat... But I try to focus on the attachment....
