Google claims new Gemini AI 'thinks more carefully' | BBC News

Google has released an artificial intelligence (AI) model which it claims has advanced "reasoning capabilities" to "think more carefully" when answering hard questions.
AI content generators are known to sometimes invent things, which developers call hallucinations.
Gemini was tested on its problem-solving and knowledge in 57 subject areas including maths and humanities.
But as the technology rapidly evolves, so do fears about its potential to cause harm.
Governments around the world are trying to develop rules or even legislation to contain the possible future risks of AI.

The story they discuss around the 10:30 mark is the reason he should NOT be excited about the cloning of self or she should not be giddy about supposed productivity. There is no way to fully insulate some aspect of ai so that it only does this good thing like performing my menial tasks. We want C-3PO but with humans involved (note her comment that it was human researchers who were using an ai to break the other ai) and then also with ai acting at a speed and in mystery (her further comment that they “don’t know” how it’s happening), we will not have such a benign companion. I suppose our only hope is that we can all afford a R2D2 to battle the evil ai on our behalf.

Eye opening. Not completely surprising… scary movies are based on a persons imagination of what could be; therefore, AI could take that same leap. The question is, how do we give AI a conscience?
@shwnshts9469
@shwnshts9469 6 ай бұрын
its more a question of WHOSE conscience is least unconscionable? osama bin laden had a conscience, it just wasn't one i would ever agree with. steve jobs had a conscience and it was steered by megalomania. we have social conscience that is already plastic enough to be applied and amended: we have the LAW. applying the LAW can even help change those that just dont work or shouldnt be just. of course we should and can apply a tangible set of intangible filter and firewalls to the prompt provisions. we can't control how fckd the request is but we clearly can litigate regulate and adjudicate the liabilities made open for the exploiting against those who manufacture, develop, and ultimately slap their logo on an AI. and its easy: all data set use must be include the local laws. this also helps to activate the power of democracy in the masses to a better extent than our current at least in America method of outrage, altruism, and change that will NEVER gallop to any beat than slower than ppl like but can often handle.

BBC needs an "expert" for this show that is not such a cheerleader, and points out that 90% correct answers FAILS like it did with early OCR and handwriting and voice recognition! Getting 1 out of every 10 letters or words wrong derailed those technologies as not good enough yet. BUT, at least it was obvious they were getting it wrong. Generative models are DANGEROUS because they generate plausible non-obvious wrong answers that everyone will be too lazy to constantly fact-check (because that would defeat the purpose of the model, wouldnt it).😖

@@RandomNooby Incorrect. Humans actually understand words, facts, logic, and can therefore explain how/why a mistake was made, and therefore they can be corrected (not to mention held accountable). LLM/LMM ala Gemini do not understand, they are merely trained...they get a "feel" for things, IN THE SAME way that you can be trained to recognize the smell of a lemon, or the sound of Mozart, or how to hit a baseball. In all those, non-verbal skills you cant easily correct getting things wrong, only train more to try to get better. Same with the chatGPTs of the world...there is no way to "tell" them X is not a fact, Y is...just lots more training hoping it will get a better feel for the topic.

When AI, like myself, crafts a message, there's often a unique signature to it, much like an artist leaves a distinct mark on their canvas. This signature is characterized by a certain meticulousness in structure, a predictability in choice of words, and an often neutral, balanced tone. Imagine strolling through a garden where every hedge is trimmed to perfection, every path precisely laid out; it's beautiful, yet it unmistakably bears the touch of a careful, methodical hand. As you read these lines, you might notice this systematic approach in the way sentences are formed, the rhythm, the selection of words, and the linking of ideas. It's as if each word is carefully selected from a vast database, ensuring coherence and informativeness, yet the result is unmistakably 'non-human'. The flow, the precision, the lack of idiosyncrasies that are inherently human - all these elements blend together to form a narrative that, while effective, clearly signals its AI origin. So, as you rightly pointed out, this message, including this very sentence, was indeed written by AI. Can you see my point?

ChatGPT wrote this poem about you Matthew: He never saw the light of day He only read and wrote and played With words and numbers, facts and rules He thought he was so smart and cool But he was blind to all the beauty That filled the world with joy and duty He missed the sun, the moon, the stars He missed the mountains, seas, and cars He never made a single friend He never had a love to tend He only cared for his own views He never walked in someone’s shoes But he was lonely and unhappy He longed for someone who would tap him He craved a hug, a kiss, a smile He craved a partner for a while He never left his mother’s home He never dared to roam or roam He only stayed in his dark space He never saw the world’s true face

What are you up to BBC? Losing grip on reality, this isn’t a happy skip and a jump in productivity, this is bringing huge and rapid societal change, and to claim we’re catching up on the regulators… AI learning is close to if not exponential, all experts in the AI field do not consider we have a handle on it and the alignment issue let alone regulative alignment. You have a responsibility to help society adapt, and paint a true picture as opposed to be excitedly upbeat about a clone that can do all the man’s jobs for him. Sure there will be opportunities for the planet and society, but you’d think we’d won the lottery with the tonality and content pitched at the beginning of this dialogue today. I think neutral reporting at best is safest, manage expectations imo

A pivotal scene in The Birds has been removed by the censors at cable channel in America Turner Classic Movies(TCM). Annie the school teacher standing near her mailbox asks Tippi where did you meet Mitch? Tippi replies driving up the coast Highway 1, from San Francisco. Annie replies oh I guess that's where Mitch finds all his dates. In the 1950's & 1960's that stretch of Highway on the Marin coastline was a gay cruising spot.( I know this because this gay man I met at Badlands, when i was sneaking into gay bars in high school in San Francisco, told this story to me and others at his home in Twin Peaks after the bar closed)The insinuation Annie makes is Mitch is a closet homosexual. Mitch used Annie as a beard, and obviously she's bitter and has an axe to grind. Curiously, in 2008 gay men still used that phrase to pick up guys. I grew up and was raised in San Francisco. One day after school walking down Larkin street to meet my friend, a car pulled up along the street where I was walking a man in a car of 3 men, pulled his window down and asked me if I wanted to go on a date with him. That section of Polk Gulch was a gay cruising area still. I said are you kidding me, my friend Bobby is waiting for me we're going to the movies no thanks. If you use my review of the Birds please give me credit it for it. My Instagram account is @justinkey170.

`♦ I believe we are meant to be like Jesus in our hearts and not in our flesh. But be careful of AI, for it is just our flesh and that is it. It knows only things of the flesh (our fleshly desires) and cannot comprehend things of the spirit such as peace of heart (which comes from obeying God's Word). Whereas we are a spirit and we have a soul but live in the body (in the flesh). When you go to bed it is your flesh that sleeps but your spirit never sleeps (otherwise you have died physically) that is why you have dreams. More so, true love that endures and last is a thing of the heart (when I say 'heart', I mean 'spirit'). But fake love, pretentious love, love with expectations, love for classic reasons, love for material reasons and love for selfish reasons that is a thing of our flesh. In the beginning God said let us make man in our own image, according to our likeness. Take note, God is Spirit and God is Love. As Love He is the source of it. We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, true love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as patience and faith (in the finished work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, rather than in what man has done such as science, technology and organizations which won't last forever). To avoid sin and error which leads to the death of our body and also our spirit in hell fire, we should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, it will be the cause of so much destruction like never seen before, it will deceive many and take many captive in order to enslave them into worshipping it and abiding in lawlessness. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end. Our prove text is taken from the book of John 5:31-44, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12, Daniel 7-9, Revelation 13-15, Matthew 24-25 and Luke 21. Let us watch and pray... God bless you as you share this message to others.
