For Vision Pro coming out in a few weeks they made a separate chip, R1, for handling lots of video and sensor i/o and analysis, which I assume is heavy AI processing. I think they’re just not liking the term AI, because a lot of people are afraid of it taking over. And letting loose a Siri AI that can potentially say anything, might be cause for caution, to avoid being sued. Apple instead they say Neural Network. Apple’s unique blend of technology, ecosystem, and commitment to privacy could be their ace in AI. Apple’s ecosystem - with its interconnected services like iCloud, Apple Music, and the Health app - creates an ideal foundation for deeply integrated AI experiences. For instance, take Steve, a user who journals his daily activities and mood on his iPhone. Apple’s AI, respecting his privacy, could analyze this data on-device to understand his stress patterns. After a challenging day, the AI, noticing his mood log, could suggest a run. During the run, using real-time data from his Apple Watch, the AI could offer personalized encouragement, ‘Your resilience in work projects is just like your strength in these runs, Steve. Keep pushing!’ and even play his favorite uplifting songs from Apple Music. Imagine a scenario where Apple’s AI guides a reflective meditation session: Evening Meditation with Apple’s AI: • Preparation: After a busy day, Steve receives a notification on his iPhone: “Steve, you’ve had a full day. Let’s take some time for a reflective meditation to unwind and process your thoughts.” • Meditation Session Begins: Steve starts the session. The AI, using a calm and soothing voice, guides him: “Find a comfortable seat, Steve. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, and slowly breathe out. Let’s reflect on today.” • Guided Reflection: The AI, drawing upon Steve’s journal entries and mood logs, prompts him: “Think about the moment today you felt most challenged. Acknowledge this feeling. Now, recall a moment of success or happiness. Let that positive feeling grow with each breath.” • Personalized Affirmations: The AI offers personalized affirmations based on Steve’s recent achievements and challenges: “Remember, your creativity is your strength. Each challenge is a step towards growth.” • Session Ends: After the meditation, the AI concludes: “Great job today, Steve. Remember, each day brings new opportunities. Take a moment to appreciate yourself.” In this scenario, Apple’s AI uses insights from Steve’s daily interactions, mood, and journal entries to offer a tailored meditation experience. The AI respects his privacy by processing all data on-device, ensuring a secure and personalized session that not only helps Steve relax but also encourages personal growth and self-reflection.

I disagree, I think their system is getting bloated and less useful, sure more locked in but would it truely be useful having any device try to manage you rather than you manage you and have a system that supports you to take care of you without suggestions unless perhaps you specifically ask for it. I found it’s easier to think about my actions directly rather than through a device. What I would mostly like to see from apple is for the assertiveness in prompts, and my machines trying to get my attention to go away. and being dyslexic, a decent ai driven spell check that actually works properly because my my iPhone still often can’t pickup the word I’m trying to spell too incorrectly for it to make a correct suggestion and then I have to type it into a search engine to pick the word up. A lot of people want to feel self determined and having a computer suggest things you should do just feels wrong to me, again unless you ask it to, because eventually you start ignoring it and it’s then just a bunch of messy stuff to deal with all the time. I spend enough time on devices as it is. I want to still be able to function if I lose contact with a tech companies product, oh I mean my computer. It’s actually counter intuitive. I get that research shows how humans behave psychologically and chemically and how this can kinda be hacked with praise and reward/ support ect but it doesn’t factory that human’s are adaptive enough to actually change and see through the psychology and eventually work around it, like recognising a scam. I think we need to retain our ability to think without an emotional aid on such a crude level where it’s just making as addicted and lazy with our own emotional stability. You have to own that as a human to survive

People buy benefits not features. I don’t see Apple branding using “Edge AI” as mentioned I’m the video, because the term has mothballed and lost all meaning. Apple sells you on the way their products make you feel, and you’ll be hard pressed to see them stray from that, regardless of what day traders say.

You already said it. Apple can use the billions and billions of devices' data. Just like you stated, “on-device AI.” Selling point : -Quicker responses -More personal to the user -Privacy in mind -And most importantly, it is cheaper for Apple to do ( no lawsuits) By the way, AI is a buzzword. Apple has been using AI for a very long time now. How do you think your photos come out so crisp and, Apple's personal voice is constructed, and so much more. People buy into the hype, not realizing what they’re sacrificing. Their privacy. This should be called the race to privacy abolishment or Product and customer switcheroo ( the user is the product by way of selling your data to the highest bidder to in return sell the user on more products)
@justinh.277811 ай бұрын
Just because Apple values their customers privacy doesn't mean it will hinder their A.I. goals. It'll just be anonymized data. That's it. They already collect data, for example an iPhone's GPS when they're on the way somewhere to understand traffic slow downs/standstills. It's just that the user is anonymous. I think it'll be just as good as any other competitor when they get to that point.

Although not very debated yet, the AI as it is today is not at all "legal", copyright speaking. Companies are scraping the web for all kinds of contents to train their models and that could lead to huge setbacks in the long run if people start suing them. I think Apple likes to be seen as a company that cares about that and is using caution on adopting it.

It seems very unlikely to me that Apple will bring out an "AI iPhone" this year already. I imagine they would need at least another year or two of R&D and other preparations to upgrade their current neural engine to something fast enough and energy efficient enough to be able to run LLM inference at decent speeds and without absolutely killing the battery.

Three years ago I was reading an article in the Chicago Tribune about one of the Northwestern Professors that was working on a new Siri with Apple. He said it was so human like. He was going to a lecture he had to give in SC and had to change planes in FL. He said before he landed, this new Siri popped up and said, "Your connecting flight has been cancelled but no worries I have you rescheduled on flight abc and you will need to go to gate C." It's been too long ago for me to remember any of the other things but the flight thing blew me away. Do you think Apple is playing possum with this whole AI thing and the appearance they are so far behind? 4o is amazing but can't do what the Siri experimental model was doing. It also makes me wonder if they already are way ahead on this and just trying to slowly put it out there for economic and social reasons? I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means!

apple don't do investor hype. It barely never mentionned VR or AR for year, yet, they were doing research, patent and were getting everything in place to really enter the market and become the gold standart for other to thrive too. It may not be talking about AI, but it been designing it's A chip with a neural engine to do in device AI year before anyone heard about chat gpt. There are does that talk and those that do. So many CEO are now there talking about AI prospect for their business without nothing concrete, and not even 1 job offering on that field. Those ceo 3 years ago were all telling us about how block chain were changing everything and so on.

Saying that Apple is “lagging behind” with AI is like saying they’re lagging behind in the search engine market. They aren’t a LLM company. They don’t and shouldn’t have a dog in this fight.
@mvasa258211 ай бұрын
Apple certainly is the best long-game player. We should not measure Apple's mention of AI in their earnings calls - this only demonstrates weakness. Apple's brand message is Apple, and they will continue to stick to their brand, even after fully leveraging AI. For example - Nike is all about the brand. I don't believe Apple should monetize AI, at least not directly - it should be part of their sophisticated service.

Apple has no business being in AI as far as public interest goes. Apple as a company has attempted and succeeded in a number of instances in monopolizing aspects of it's industry. A powerful monopolized AI system controlled by a powerful corporate tech company such as Apple would guarantee a stranglehold on nearly everything we do in our day to day and would be even harder to stop or regulate.I find Apple to be the prime example of corporate fascism within the tech industry. AI needs to be transparent to all, owned by none and taught by humans with loving hearts, smart and healthy minds and that value humanitarian pursuits above all. Not human beings filled with greed to meet their own self interest in a grossly unregulated capitalistic society. If anyone finds AI to be frightening, remember that AI is only the reflection of our own frightening selves that taught and built AI. Everyone needs to accept and see their own flaws and shortcomings and find healthy ways of fixing that. Possibly through therapy that works on mental health and emotional wellbeing. Then at that point we may be worthy of training AI. That needs to happen sooner than later for the sake of us all.

if you watch the apple keynotes you will notice that they never speak of AI. They always talk about machine learning, when they are referring to features commonly known as AI. So I guess the big feature will be exactely that - no need for servers etc, every AI integration will be on your phone and they will continue to brand it as machine learning - since that is closer to the truth and has less "negative" connotations than AI. (fact is: many people outside the tech bubble are sceptical of AI, some are afraid and don't want to bother with it)
