Tbh, i don't mind giving Gemini my data if it's gonna help me on a daily basis. Like you said, Gemini isn't going away. Btw fun fact, i have a shitzu, name Gemini, and another one named Aries. I absolutely love the name.

When gemini told me it can't open app I said goodbye and switched back to assistant that is reliable.

It's a process for sure, I think the December feature drop helped with that, but it wasn't all the way there. But I think it's going to get there quickly, but it's not just Gemini Live.

Yes like at this point it makes way more sense to just use the regular Google Assistant and if you really want to use Gemini make a browser shortcut. I can't open apps or set timers or do just about anything I need an assistant to do. I'm basically indifferent about it; but it doesn't make any sense as a default assistant right now

And because I can make a browser shortcut for Gemini which I can't do for Google Assistant so to me it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense as a default assistant You can corporate Gemini into the phone without making it the default assistant. I don't think it should be the default until it actually can claim music and control your smart speakers and open apps and set timers and take voice notes and so on.
