Wow, this is really a big step forward. I really liked Bing's AI and Google Bard but the fact they can't really be used in combination with other Services from Microsoft / Google really was limiting. This seems amazing. If this gets built into the OS to run stuff like "Look for all my photos of cats, convert them into PNGs , 7zip them and upload them to my google drive" it would be huge.

At the end of the day, it's all about the quality of the output. Extensions are good and all, but, if the hallucinations are still prevalent. Then ChatGPT 4 is still king. I want expecting a move from Palm 2 or at least a core upgrade into the Models basic logic and reasoning.

The update is really nice. It hallucinates a lot though. For example it was not able to parse the contents of the cinema theater web site and propose the movies are available tonight and it was showing other older movies. It's just a matter of a few updates to get there though.

I wish it could extrapolate the "points" of some videos by reading the subtitles and summerizing the video content. This could save HOURS for people looking for a snippet of specific info on a topic. i asked it last night to read my school assignment (8 pages) and it summerized it and i asked for some pointers, maybe some areas where i could elaborate or similar. it was very helpful. also, my report was not in english, but it summerized it in english for me, and read it in its native language without a hitch. even though the "feature" is english only. so thats nice

Bard tells me that the York Road exit from Waterloo tube station is only 0.5km from the London Eye and is closer than Westminster tube station, although the walk from Westminster is more scenic. I agree but am surprised that Bard didn't offer you Waterloo tube station. Perhaps Bard will be clever enough to learn the best/quickest route?

How much is Google paying you? All kidding aside, Bard hallucinates more than someone on shrooms. Extra features don't matter much when, you know, you can't trust a thing the LLM says. This video, I know, is a couple weeks old, but with the voice and DALL-E-powered features on it, together with the plugins that were already available, along with the coding superiority? It's not even close. Bard is far worse. (But infinitely cheaper.) Looking forward to Gemini, though.

I didn't see a single thing on this video that Google or Google assistant hasn't been able to for a long time. It's literally like Google's just repackaging everything that it's already been doing. And they are lagging sorely behind open AI. It would be phenomenal if Bard could actually DO things with the Google services. Things such as set up auto replies, generate emails, send emails for booking reminders from Google calendar, answer calls from Google voice... I'm pretty sure all these things are possible but as of now, barred is an exponential flop.

I don't care how many add-ons and widgets Bard has. I logged onto it yesterday and asked it some very simple music theory questions. And it got them wrong even going so far as to claim that C# was the same note as F. Rather ironic considering its name. If this thing gives wrong information it is far worse than useless. ChatGPT 3.5 has no problems getting these questions right, so as far as I'm concerned Bard is not worth my time.

I would say Waterloo is the closest tube station to the London Eye, closer than Westminster. You can even see on the map it shows that Embankment & Charing Cross stations (symbols above Royal Festival Hall & next to Trafalgar Square) are both closer than Piccadilly Circus & Leicester Square. Maybe it just doesn't like the Northern Line.😃

How one LLM reacts to prompts compared to another was where we were 6 months ago. Things have moved on, that is way less important now. Now it is about how useful it is. Not how cleverly it can write a haiku.

@@GaryExplains Actually it IS still about that. Because everything you showed us today is not much different that putting in the same questions in to Google Search. Youd get very similar if not same results. The whole point and appeal of LLM was that they could do things like a human....that regular search engines could not. Like write a Haiku that you so easily sarcastically gave an example of. The reason why Google and Microsoft is concentrating on these "useful" features as you call them is because it is more monetizable from an ad perspective. But the actual appeal and wonder and TRUE useful ness of LLM is STILL the stuff a regular search cant do.

There are search boxes for those true, but no context processing. Don't you see what it means being able to ask Bard a question about my own documents in a natural language and get an LLM reply, not just search results.

@@GaryExplains I was doing reverse engineering for my CPU. You need to microbenchmarks to stress some mechanism of it to infer the specs. GPT4 gave quite nice answers most of the time. Even if it does not work, you can apply the approach by tweaking it. However, the answer of Bard was total nonsense. Also, the answer was same as Claude AI.

It needed to The answers hallucinated parameters that didn't exist and were literally completely useless. I took the same prompt, gave it to gpt4 and it gave me the correct answer. I asked gpt4 about bard's answers and it correctly identified the errors.

Well, after trying both I liked ChatGPT more. It seems that it gives you more accurate and detailed answer on your questions. I've asked a question about a game what would be the dialogues of the characters in the intro if the game had a real time AI powered dialogues. Both gave similar answers but ChatGPT felt more human while Bard felt more formal, technical. I didn't like it. Also, while Bard doesn't show you anything when searching for sources ChatGPT lets you know what it does. I don't know but I felt better that ChatGPT does that. It might be be cause the first chatbot experience I've had was with ChatGPT. But it feels like Apple vs. Android. Like ChatGPT gives you a more smooth experience while Bard gives you a faster experience. I can tell that when I saw a comparison video where ChatGPT gives you information with veeeery fast text is being written real time, you get the big chunk of the text at once on Bard. Though, not gonna lie, I like that better on Bard. Because seeing non-ending text is keep going you get bored and ask yourself when is it gonna end while you get all at once on Google. :D I just liked that ChatGPT is letting you know what it does, it looks more polished. And some informations Bard gave were wrong, like so wrong. It seemed like while ChatGPT is having expertise in a subject Bard didn't do his homework properly. While all the info ChatGPT gave was correct, Bard even confused which race fought which race, one of their name was wrong. It seems that Google's own AI chatbot is failed to use their own search engine compared to another chatbot. So, Bard still has a way to go. Can't wait for Bard to surpass ChatGPT in every possible ways and integrated to everything.

The usage is basically composable at this point. That takes a bit of tooling or someone to 'direct' the conversation. For those that don't understand it, it sounds like an advance, but for those that do, they know how massive it is! LLMs are but one part of what is now possible. Deep Mind have advanced us more in the Biological Science space in the last year than many might have dreamed. And companies are more than willing to throw money at it to solve their own problems as they have seen the orders of magnitude gains.

When I ask Bard it says : "I apologize for the inconvenience. I am still under development, and I am not yet able to access emails from Google Workspace accounts. That's a cool idea. However, as of October 14, 2023, Bard continues to be somewhat unreliable, providing valuable information but spattered with downward wrong facts. You really have to be careful. Also, I tried the KZbin extension: it provided inexact information (I asked specifically for full movies and it kept turning out excerpts from those movies) and eventually crashed: "I'm sorry, I can't answer questions about KZbin content right now." Great potential, but I'll stick to ChatGPT until Bard gets better.

The big difference in my opinion is that if you ask Bard a question it tells you an answer. But it does not tell you the references of this answere so you are unable to go fact check this yourself. This is a major drawback from the Bing chat which immediatly tells you the references used to generate your answer so that you can go and have a look at how "reliable" the data behind the answer is.

You can click on the Google icon and it will double checke the reply with Google, highlight everything it finds. If you click on it, it brings you directly to the source and also highlights the important information so you don't have to read everything

Funny thing is that even Bard did not know about that functionality :) I asked "it" about this and the reply was just that this was not developed yet and that this information could not be displayed. Which I guess is true because they try to remedy the fact that BARD doesn't know by doing a search online after "similar" content like what Bard just has displayed.

As for Bard not knowing, I guess the issue here is that Bard is trained on a dataset and it forms and elaborates it's responses based on that. And sometimes this can lead to wrong information/hallucinations because the model tries to fill in gaps. The googling it button allows to double-check with other sources on the internet instead of Bard just using the data it was trained on

Yeah, caveat emptor. I tested it by asking what bus I should catch to get to a local shopping mall. It suggested bus 100, and showed a google map where I could catch it from. I asked if there were any bus stops closer to where I live, it replied with a list of, yes, bus stops that were closer. I asked if the bus 100 stopped at any of these: no. So I asked for one that did, it suggested one that was a 9-minute walk away. Except it was 3.9 miles away. The shopping mall is 2.9 miles away. You should also know the bus 100 suggested by Bard doesn't actually go anywhere near the shopping mall.

It has grown extensions etc... it's access to your data has expanded, but I'm not sure I would say it's a better model yet. It wasn't valuable. You could've done everything you demonstrated more easily without the AI, with existing search tools. The AI did not answer your question about Bob's email correctly (the last email was from Sept) but it's trivial to search your email by "from:Bob" and see the subject line of the latest at the top. Bard did not answer your other questions either, it presented Google-style search results and you still had to find the answer yourself in those results. You couldn't search your doc for the first occurence of "Abigail"? There was no "wow, the AI assisted with a task that would've been really difficult before" moment. @@GaryExplains
