6 Months Later what do you see is the biggest difference between the echo dot and Google home mini?

Audio out jack on the echo dot and design. I think the mini sounds better and the Google Assistant is a bit better than Alexa but both are pretty similar. Personally I like the look of Google's devices better. They blend into the home better.

I ran across your videos regarding the Google Home and binge watched all of them because I really like the way you present your information! After watching and learning from you, You were the primary reason I purchased the Home Mini as a Christmas present for my Friend and his family here in Durham. I expected him to call me to help him set it up, but luckily one of his family (that came from out of state for the holidays with his family) was a tech geek and set it up for them. Honestly, most of the adults at his holiday gatherings could not stay away from it and using a lot of its features. I did tell my friend to watch your videos to learn more about what thay could do with it. Oh and no I don’t have one (yet) but considering it “Maybe” - haha. Anyway, Great videos Josh! G’day josh mate just wanted to mention how amazing the google home picks up on my own personality and Australian accent , there was one weird incident were Google home giggled at my neighbour when he sat down and stared talking this was random not asking anything or saying hey goggle or ok google. Phillip's HUE starter kit cost $70 at walmart(Nov 2018) it comes with 1 hub and 2 HUE dimmable light bulbs. additional light bulbs cost $15 to $20 EACH( for the dimmable lights). Color changing lights cost more. also a quick note... you do NOT need google home or Echo Dot to use the Phillip's HUE. all you need is a SMART PHONE. to use voice to turn on/off the lights you DO need either google home or Alexa app or the devices.

For me it had been super if Google mini had some English learning or pronunciation exercises, now Google always searches for "Warm jell-o" when I ask it to set my light to "Warm yellow" :-D

For the My Day feature, Good Morning is the only one that works for me, Good Afternoon and Good Evening just gets me a response like Good Afternoon to you too or Good evening. Maybe this is a restriction on the Canadian version, but it used to work a couple of months ago...

Just got a Google home and 2 mini's. I have to say playing music on these devices are not that great. The single speaker make everything sound so flat. I guess I was expecting more---at minimum stereo sound. I'm not a audiophile type. but the lack to stereo sound caught me off guard with all the reviews I watched. I guess I can set up speaker groups, but I wanted to share this. Google Home is great for all lit does, but as a radio/music player, it is seriously lacking. Best get a chromecast to go with it to connect to you sound system.

Music playback is a big feature that is quite good on a google home. You can have them throughout your home, so you have music playing in each room. For me, I don’t always have my phone with me when I’m at home, so I like the convenance of always having the google home there ready to activate when I say it’s trigger word. Plus it’s mics are way better than my phone’s at hearing the trigger word from across the room. Also, I’m somewhat lazy and don’t want to have to pull my phone out of my pocket every time I want to listen to music or turn on the lights (often my phone can’t hear me when it’s in my pocket). That’s why I got a google home (several now actually).

In the Google home app you can add the device (or any other compatible device) to a 'Home'. You can add different people to the home using their email, I think the max is 6 people. These individuals can set up their voice from their mobile devices using Google Assistant. If their voice is already set up, it'll be linked to their Gmail. The Google home will be able to distinguish between the voices.

The chromecast and mini should be both setup through the google home app. That’s how I was able to hook both of mine up.

Hi Jeremy, not sure about setting it up with LiftMaster. I used Nexx Garage to hook mine up so the garage door connected to my Google home. Your best bet may be to contact Lift Master or Google search to see if your particular garage door opener will work with Google or a 3rd party app like iftt or stringify, which you could use to connect your garage door and the Google Assistant.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
