7:23 - As far as I know, on the Mini there's no way to activate the assistant via button/touch either. Originally there was a functionality to that effect but apparently it lead to some privacy concerns and was quickly permanently disabled.

hey man, great review. I want a max as soon as they are available in Australia. When you said 'Okay google, tell me about the weather", my google home above the computer answered. "In York today it will be sunny with a forecast high of 33, currently it's 33 and sunny" amazing. my computer speakers aren't that great either. very impressed with the home and mini, can't wait for the max.

Smart speakers are a gimmick with often sub-par quality. Referring to them as "good for a smart speaker" is only moving the goal post and often ignoring the diminishing returns in the quality you are getting. A pair of similarly priced bookshelf speakers blow anything like this out of the water. Just ask yourself how completely, absolutely lazy and obtuse do you have to be to not reach for your similarly enabled smart device (phone), honestly? Even if you wanted this smart crap just hook up a small google or smart thing to it as a peripheral and you're good to go. The fact this thing is essentially tied to the wifi is just retarded, like was bluetooth at least not an option or did the inevitable obligatory greed kick in when looking at services and seeing the dollar signs from?
