Im the IT industry now for 4 years (all of it in entry level help desk) have both google cybersecurity and IT Support cert. if it wasn’t for these two certs, I would’nt have landed a system admin job. This was my starting point. Was working for BPO back then and provide consumer tech support. Swing this for 3 weeks and applied for about 2months (200+applications). On 3rd month I got a HD job after about 10 interview. This was helpful to see the bigger picture of IT. But you dont stop after this cert. You must have a nice resume presentinf you skills that are transferrable for desired role + interviewing skills. For me, this was enough cert to see if you have interest in IT which dont hurt your bank account.

I'm actually on my last course (there are a total of 5 courses with an average of 6 weeks each course with the exception of the 5th course which has 7 weeks). During my one week trial, I was able to complete 2 courses and I started in the last week of June and today is 7/16/23. I'll tey update you guys when I complete my last course.

@@optical_ace Yes I did, there are 5 courses total related to the Google it tech. Each course is broken down into weeks like week 1, week 2. Course 5 which is the last course, is 7 weeks long. Each week contains like reading materials, videos and tests. I started I started in June and finished July anyway, imo it was very worth it.

I am currently applying for a job like crazy hoping to land an interview or 2 and eventually a job. as a single parent with not much of a family support system, I'm in desperate need of a remote job to provide for my daughter. I had to start getting money coming in again so I'm working back at amazon and working on certifications on my free time. as for my child I started dating someone and she is able to watch her while I work.

I'm studying the second course - Bits and Bytes of Computer networking. I had ZERO knowledge of IT that made me afraid of working in IT sector. But now, I can at least consider it as my future career with this fundamental concept about computers I obtained from the course. It's amazing. common misconception is that google certificate will land a help desk role, it most likely wont. will need to put your learning towards getting an actual certification like comptia A+ before having a realistic chance at a job

He doesn’t have a degree and went to a local bootcamp for cybersecurity (trying to make a career transition from commercial driving). He wants to get into SysAdmin. I worked at Google for 18 months as a Software Engineer and I know many people at Google that have said Certification presented on this video. They problem with that certificate is that most companies don't use Google Workspace Suite and their Jump Cloud Technologies. You will need to find a job in IT where a company uses Google Tech as the foundation. Most Google products are inhouse and propriatarian, which means, they don't really translate outside of Google. I know a bunch of Google Software and Tech that I may never use again somewhere else. Having said this, all the other fundamentals you will learn on those courses will help you get into IT. There are community colleges and universities that teach Google courses over a 2 semester format. They will not rush you through the course! Corsera is cool but not for everyone.

Active Directory (ADDS) is not really a tier 1 IT task you will be using at most companies in what I've seen in my 8+ years. It's more of a Level 2 tasks at most companies.

While it may not be tier 1 IT skill... Most companies are requiring it even for entry/junior level positions. I have at least 6 years of experience in Help Desk + Network Operations, a degree in programming, and the only thing these companies seem to care about if you have experience with ADDS.

In my experience its a great course, but not a worthwhile certificate. If you have 0 IT experience then its a great and cheap starting point with great direction which will also prepare you for comptia a+. You also get a discount on the A+ exams. If you already have IT experience you might as well study for A+ instead; however if you're able to comple the course within a month or two then it's worth it for the discount code. However, if you want to go the college route some colleges accept the course as an intro to computing course.

This review seems kind of empty. It's just describing the Google IT Certificate. I could get this info by swinging by their website and skimming the sections of the program. What would have been nice if the creator either (A) went though the program, got the certificate, and then presented his opinion of it or (B) went though the sections he thought were critical/interesting, which in this case seem to be Active Directory and Cyber Security, and provided a review/book report of those items. This just seemed like it was converting the description of what was on the website to a video (which takes longer to digest than if you just went on the website itself).

Agreed, any "certificates" that don't have to validate your knowledge through a real test, unlike the CompTIA exams or Cisco exams, are mostly just good for your own knowledge but not so much for employment. HR managers will likely wipe their ass with the certificates. Point is, it really depends WHY you are doing it. If you're doing the certification to learn, then it's probably useful to some respect. But if you're looking to get hired, maybe look at the certifications the HR managers are looking for via their job postings (usually a flavor of CompTIA and/or Cisco). It sucks because most of CompTIAs tests are awul (most not all), but it's just the world we live in right now xd

Zach, what makes this Google IT Support Pro Cert any BETTER, DIFFERENT or UNIQUE over CompTIA ITF+ or A+ cert? While Google yes .. is a BIG name, MOST recruiters and hiring mgr's are looking more so for established industry certs like from CompTIA, MS or Cisco. For just entry lev IT Support jobs that's CompTIA A+ and N+.

Google and Comptia are offering a discount on both A+ Parts 1 and 2 after you complete Google's certificate. A+ is definitely better known, but the Google certificate seems great at teaching you what you need when you get your foot through the door.

@@bjlitin While a discount is definitely a BONUS for both A+ exams, it's still a fixed $246 PER EXAM - any discounts for both parts of the A+ cert so you'll still be paying upwards of maybe $400 total after discounts for both exams PROVIDING you pass BOTH of them. Fail even one exam and there goes your discount + even more added expense. Google Coursera is $50 PER MONTH for the Google IT Support Cert but that cumulative cost can be offset if someone can say knock out a cert in a month or two, and the Google exam is NOT proctored. So from a purely cost perspective, there are trade offs which can impact a good amount of people on tight spending budgets.

IT Support is a broad term that can include Help Desk. Kind of like saying that all ravens are birds but that not all birds are ravens. This program seems to be a good first step down that path. But I would hardly see it as a terminal option. You're likely going to need to continue learning and adding to your skill set no matter what you choose. But again, as a first step it's not bad. It's easily accessible, self-paced, entry-level and cheap. There are Help Desk or call center options that are not IT-centric or overwhelmingly technical. A path you could consider is finding a company where you could serve in a more generalized support role and then move into more specialized IT support as your skill increases. Just a thought.

Those are 2 radically different things. If you have no IT knowledge or background, you likely won't do well in the Security+. Its like wanting to learn about engine performance and tuning without understanding how engines work. In short, learn this first before going for the Sec+. The Sec+ is not entry-level. It assumes you already have a decent amount of knowledge common computer systems.

Not directly, but looking at what this course covers and the requirements for the CompTIA A+ exams, there is a lot of overlap. Also, if you obtain the Google certificate, you can then obtain a joint A+ certificate when you do the A+ exams, and I believe you are also eligible for a discount on the latter. Comptia is recognized by everyone in my experience. Googles certifications show you are improving your knowledge and have an interest in bettering yourself, but most employers will not look at it as highly as Comptia certs. If you have no experience in IT, start with the course he is talking about here and use it as a start to studying for your first Comptia exams; continue to study for and get get your Comptia networking + certification (a+ certification is another option to do before networking +, just depends on your current experience). Networking is a big part of cyber security, which is why id highly suggest getting it and the security+ certs. Next I would do the Google cyber security course to start studying for comptia security+ certification. This way you will have googles certs while studying for comptia exams. Things to keep in mind: Comptia courses/guides may be free on places like KZbin, but the actual exams are rather expensive (several hundred for one exam on the low side). Whereas Google certs price depend on how fast you complete the course, meaning you could pay as little as ~$50 for one. Comptia exams are more difficult and comprehensive in my opionion. Comptia certs will sometimes be considered in lue of experience/degrees, I've never heard of that being the case with googles certs. Lastly, you can retake the Google cert exams over and over till you pass. Comptia exams are not so forgiving and will cost you to retake them, depending which "package" you buy.

I would do IT support, then move onto networking, then cyber security. Cyber security is not exactly meant for beginners to the IT field. It relies on previous experience and knowledge of IT and IT practices. If you don't have that, you will likely struggle a lot to understand the concepts in cyber security. Think of it this way: If you want to work on engine performance and tuning, you have to have a good understanding of how a car's engine works to work on performance and tuning. Otherwise you jump straight into the deep end (so to speak) without knowing anything, you're not going to do too well.

The certificate itself will help you find a job. Make sure you mention your certificate on your resume and every application form, and highlight the skills you have learned on each application. When you get an interview, make sure you tell the interviewer what you learned on the course, and don’t be afraid to go into detail, just like in the sample interview videos throughout the course. You’re definitely in a better position applying for entry-level IT jobs than you were before you got the certificate. Best of luck! 👍

This course offers no help at all when you have questions. The networking chapter is confusing as hell and structured in a way that is impossible to understand. So far this course is really not good for students.

it is a completion certificate not a real certification. employers look for certifications like the comptia A+ tests not certificates of completion for courses like the google one

If I go with Google certificate program, do they have a teacher that can help you if you have questions do they have tutors? Do they have those kind of helpers
