Hi there, great video. But I needed some additional information, my Nest thermostat is located in my garage and used for heat only, and it is normally turned off so the heater does not kick on all the time. I need to know what the temperature inside the garage is and the thermostat does not go low enough. So I needed to know if this device will give me the garage temperature WITHOUT turning on the heater. If you can let me know if this work, I sure would appreciate it before I buy it. Thanks again. 👍👍

The temperature sensor should show the temperature in the room like the garage no matter what mode it is in (heat, cool, or off).

Think of it as being able to take the thermostat your house came with, take it off the wall, and move it anywhere you want. Except you do that over WiF. For example my thermostat is downstairs. So if I’m running the heater, the heater will reach desired temperature downstairs while upstairs bedrooms stay cold. Heat is FLOWING to the upstairs bedrooms, but the thermostat downstairs turns the heater off because it’s now hot downstairs. So I got a remote temperature sensor for upstairs. I have the heater look at the downstairs thermostat during the day, then when we go to bed, I have the heater look at the temperature on the sensor upstairs. The heater will stay on until it gets warm upstairs. Not perfect but better. To ultimately control the temperature precisely throughout the house, then you need to get a new system that is “zoned” the way you want it.

Thanks! Even though I can totally set it up myself, it’s _great_ to have app walkthroughs like this one to preview and help decide if I even want to buy it or not. So, very helpful video. ❤

These sensors are a great idea, but how will they control the airflow going into the room to make it cooler or warmer? That does not seem to make sense. Usually, when you turn the AC or heater on in a house, say at 70 degrees, how will it control the airflow to your room to make it warmer or cooler seems you would need air throttle devices in your air ducts for all rooms. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ~Chad James

They won't unless you have a heating unit that can control the temperature in different areas separately. Normally the thermostat can't tell the temperature throughout the home. It only knows the temperature where the thermostat is located, and it assumes the whole house is also that temperature. What the sensors do is give the thermostat additional reference points that let it know what the temperature is in other parts of the house where you place a sensor. You can then tell the thermostat to turn on the heater or AC to get the temperature at that sensor where you want it to be rather than the temperature at the thermostat. If you don't have a zoned system, it will heat or cool the entire house until that sensor is at the temperature where you want it. It is possible sensors can save you money, but they are really for comfort, like if you have a bedroom that is normally colder or hotter than the thermostat and you are ok with the whole house heating or cooling more than normal to get that room to a comfortable temperature.

@@JG-ic3py But lets say you have temp at 75. Living and kitchen feels good. But one bedroom is cold. Cant you just turn up the thermostat to 80 which will get the room temp up. But then kitchen and living room will be hotter too.

I want this in the UK ? It drives me insane that I cannot find a solution like this for UK NEST customers ?

Good review/how to guide, but I'm disappointed in the ability of the technology. We have a 2 story house. With sensors in two locations, I should be able to set a margin of tolerance between the levels. Our upstairs gets hot. If the downstairs is cool, just use the fan to cool off the upstairs. It should be able to see both temperatures and adjust the function.

Is there a difference between the newer Google Nest Temperature Sensor and the older Nest sensors before Google acquired Nest?
@TechandDesign7 ай бұрын
dont think you can get the older one now in 2024. It's been a few years since google bought nest. Its just a branding difference

I just bought the learning thermostats and sensor. My thermostat is in the hallway. Warmest part of the house. My livbg room be at 62f hallway at 69f. This sensor will accurately tell the temperature of the livibg area we actually need warmer

Can't figure out how to make these work with Google Home App. Nest App doesn't have our therms on it anymore as they were forced to Google Home App. Please advise
@TechandDesign Жыл бұрын
actually , you can add your nest thermostat to the nest app

If its the thermostat with the mirror finish, it won't work. I found that out AFTER buying it.

@@JbbJakeyou mean the Thermostat E (the white one)? I can’t get it to work either. Nest App wants an entry code: but the thermostat doesn’t give one

I thought you could have the thermostat read a certain sensor during different parts of the day...
