There's ZERO need to heat the rear back cover to remove it. I've removed/replaced two N6 batteries and it's incredibly easy. What you have to do is remove the sim card holder and you'll notice there is a hole made from the factory. You then stick a paperclip through the hole and the upper part of the rear back cover pops up. At that point you can stick a card/pick in there to hold it up while you use another pick to go around the phone ungluing the back cover.

That tip about using a paper clip in the hole was SPOT ON. Saved me a ton of aggravation. Thank you!

@Tony Lefler That's strange. Off the top of my head I would say try disconnect and reseating the connections. It's always possible that the digitizer is going bad but the relation to your lock button is a new one. I haven't seen that happen before.
@MrBazinger10 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend, especially with the nexus 6, test the screen once reconnected before completing the full reassembly. You doing want to fully reassemble to find out the new screen arrived faulty (which does happen) or that you failed to context the screen to the board correctly, only to have to take or all apart again. All them screws!! Nice video.

Thank you so much for doing this video with a phone that hasn't been opened yet! I have destroyed or come very close to destroying several phones because I had been watching a video where the phone had obviously (though only obvious after trying to do it myself) been opened already or maybe they just didn't explain clearly enough how much heat you need.
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
+Javan Pohl No problem. I try to record the repair first time whenever possible as I have often experienced what you describe. When a tutorial doesn't include something like a screw that they forgot to put back during the first rebuild things can go bad quickly.

Nice video. Had my screen replaced today (drop-in repair shop). They did a great job, and everything looks neat. But the back-cover is a little loose on the sides. Any tip on that? I've already complained about it once, and they fixed it, but now it's loosening again (only a couple of hours later). Any tip on how to *really* make the back-cover stick? e.g. Like a special type of glue/tape, rubber ribbons...? Thanks :)

If the digitizer is intact, can the screen be replaced without having to replace the digitizer as well? Or is it one piece all together? The difference in price is significant.

Thank you for the video! I just had a quick question... Is it necessary to replace the glass, screen, and digitizer if only the front glass is broken? My broken Nexus 6 still responds to touch, and the pixels still display appropriately, it just seems that the glass that lies on top is shattered. Would I still need to replace the digitizer + screen? Or can I purchase just the glass for repair.
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Resaul I wish that I had one to experiment with. Haven't tried glass only on this one so I am only guessing but it's most likely possible however probably not easy.

Why would you place the new adhesive on the tabs (over the screw holes) when you just removed the adhesive on the outer frame ledge? Seems like you're not going to get near as good a seal against weather, etc, from that position.

+Steve Wolfe The back of this phone has a tendency to lift up in a few different places. My main goal is to prevent that from happening. If you take one apart I think that you will agree. If not please let me know how you got it to stay flush. It can be very challenging.

Hi, I followed the instructions in your video pretty accurately and was able to replace the touchscreen. I have a problem now. The screen works, as in, I can see the phone boot up and all. But the touch doesn't work. I went back and re-did the entire process again, meticulously. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong or what have I missed? Can you please help??
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
If you've tried reconnecting the cables then my guess would be a bad replacement part or damage somewhere on the logic board near the connectors. Do you still have the original screen and can it be used for testing?
@alize0008 жыл бұрын
I have a small question. My screen is fine, but seems it's lost its adhesive power on that particular plastic piece you struggled to take off the LCD. That outer frame. The screen has just popped out. Still works fine and all.. I thought I was the battery doing it, but it wasn't. So my question is, could I simply unlatch the ribbon cable for the Lcd, so that it just comes out and let's me apply tape to that plastic part, then reattach it. No Need to remove the whole logic board? Since all I need is to apply more adhesive to that plastic frame
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
Those jobs are always hit and miss. If you make sure not to cause stress to anything that can be ripped, torn, or cracked you can give it a shot but as far as the amount of adhesion you'll get- that's questionable. The correct procedure of course, is to tear it down to the point that you can clean both surfaces and apply new adhesive. You could also use a case but that is of course only a temporary fix since once you take it off you're back to the same situation.

Have you ever heard of the N6 simply dying? Mine was behaving perfectly normally one day then I picked it up, after sitting on my desk for some hours, and it was off. I turned it on and then it sat on the loading animation for a long time. I powered it off and on again, same result. Then tried a third time but it simply won't start and doesn't even respond to being charged. It is completely unresponsive in every way.

Seems that no one covers swapping speakers from old to new. I bought screen with frame premounted. But the new set had no speakers installed. That is completely useless because you have to detach the new frame from the new display in order to get the speakers in place. There are two plastic ridges that fit into the slots in the frame (speakers seen here: i.imgur.com/3OksHPZ.jpg). Would be really helpful if this was covered. Basically you have to pop out the old speaker bar from behind the frame by pushing the two protrusions in the center of the speaker bar seen in the picture. Push on them with a toothpick or the T3 you used for the screws. Be careful. You can push them into the new screen from the front but try to keep the pressure on the bar and not the screen, otherwise the screen will break. I haven't found a single video where they show you this.

Yes, eBay has some glass only. It might be very difficult without buying an lcd frame to preform a LOCA Glue repair. I would assume it is possible and practical, seeing that the screen costs over $200 and the display is an amoled screen. He most likely will make a video of that in the future.

why is it that if you have a perfectly functional digitzer, you can't just replace the screen only? cant you just reconnect the digitizer to the new screen?
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
Ben Robin In some cases you can but with most late model phones the two parts are fused together and very difficult to separate without causing damage to the display and often requires equipment and experience that most people do not have. I haven't tried it with this model but when you can't find a glass replacement tutorial it is usually because it is either impossible or impractical.

@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
One of the issues with AMOLED displays is the cost of production. Something as old as the Galaxy S4 will still set you back around $70. If your display and digitizer are still in tact it is possible to replace just the glass. I don't have a tutorial for that one and it's not easy but has been done before. But yeah, not cheap otherwise and even Apple will be switching over from LCD eventually so at some point any premium smartphone will use AMOLED technology for their phones.
@ellulturner7 жыл бұрын
Go Cell Phone Repair yeah but i suppose it's worth it for the screen quality! Just don't drop your phone is probably the best idea but no the screen is completely capoot and won't even turn on, thank you very much anyway! Will be a good thing when apple moves to amoled will force the rest of the market forward.

Hard to say without seeing the inside of the phone. If the water got to the logic board or other components. I would lean towards saying no. You would want to treat the phone for liquid damage and test it with another screen to know for sure.
