Reviewing Google's Pixel 8 Pro in 2024, six months after launch, to see if it's the best camera phone - or straight-up flagship smartphone. Vs rivals like the Samsung S24 Ultra and OnePlus 12, the Pixel 8 Pro isn't quite as impressive. Gaming isn't as fluid or satisfying, for one, with that Tensor G3 stuffed inside.
However, Google's Pixel exclusive features and AI tools help to elevate it above many other premium phones. And then there's the excellent camera, which is perfect for point-and-shoot action. You can capture RAW images, but the Pixel 8 Pro can spaff out gorgeous photos all on its own, while the editing tools are excellent.
Likewise, I've had no complaints with the battery life. The Pixel 8 Pro is just as strong as other Androids, offering two days of use between charges if you're careful - or a full day of heavy use including lots of camera play. And while those AI features are still developing, they're certainly a worthy addition to an excellent suite of Google tools.
So that's my long term thoughts of the Pixel 8 Pro in 2024. But what do you think? Let us know your own review of this Google smartphone below if you've been using it!

For a company to charge this sort of money for a phone that only has 128gigs of NON EXPANDABLE storage is, in my opinion, an insult. The phones should start with at least 256gigs.

The trick with flagships like Pixel, Galaxy, and even iPhone is to get the best of adaptive charging. The one Pixel is so well designed. It doesn't overheat during the night, and greatly improves day-to-day battery longevity.

Never really paid attention the OIS before, but I took a video with my 8 Pro at a gig a few weeks back. While I was recording the stage, I was bouncing around like a loon. I watched the video back the next day, and I was amazed how smooth the video was. And the eraser for photos is pretty much amazing. It even takes watermarks off photos without the need for Photoshop!

The last three gens of Pixels have proven to be really good, albeit a tad bit half baked on launch. I currently have the Pixel 7 Pro and it is probably my favorite Android phone ever (after the HTC One M7 of course), but I have to admit that Google needs to do a lot more to properly catch-up to Apple and Samsung. The upcoming Pixel 9 will definitely be a step forward, looking into how well Google has integrated feedback into their software updates but the big jump will be during the release of the Pixel 10. Google announced a while ago that they are working on a proprietary 3nm chip, and I think that's where they will start being on par with the latest Galaxy and iPhone devices.

Hello Mr spurt, I was lucky, got the bay version off eBay brand new for considerably less than retail. Replacement for my 7 Pro. It's truly brilliant , mainly purchased for the camera which is totally spurtfully good. 50mp is brilliant colour is perfect ai is amazing other than circle to remove which seems to have colour and brightness issues on the whole photo. They just had $500 off the P8 and P8 pro here in Australia - so I made the jump from my trusty P4a 5g to the Pro. I'm not a huge gamer on my phone - so a lot of those issues don't really affect me. I know that Google is still investing in better versions of the Tensor to get it to compete with the Snapdragon - but what will that mean for the Tensor 3 in this phone and the promised update support? As stated - we'll see how it is after 7 years - but at the moment, I'm very happy with it.

Regarding the thermometer, I will say once the FDA approved it for using on people here in the US I've tested it on myself aside another thermometer. It's pretty accurate. That being said, what I use it for the most is checking the pavement to see if it's too hot for my dog to walk on. Super happy with the 8 Pro 256Gb. Camera has been great. Software experience is really good. I don't play games on my phone so not missing much there. The only downside is when the higher than usual power consumption occurs when I am not on wifi. Maybe just my phone but would be interested to hear if anyone else has the same issue. Overall, loving it and looking forward to see what Google does with its next flagship phone. Hoping for a better CPU onboard than the Samsung produced ones which is just passable.

So I had the pixel 8 pro for about 3 months. For some reason I enjoyed my experience with the 6 pro much better for some reason. The good wud include the fact that the finger print reader and facial recognition was good, battery life wasn't bad, slow charging. The things I hated was that the bezels easily got scratched or dinged even with a case on. It fell from me once witb a case on the bezel still got a visible dent. I had a camera lens cover and wanted to take it off when I tried taking it off the camera bezel got scratches just from my nails taking off the camera lens cover I put on... The bezels are just too soft. The phone wud constantly loose Bluetooth connection, or asking me to reconnect the device all over again. Loved the recording and transcription. There were just too much bugs to say I was in love. Moved on to a s24 ultra, it's been a month and I can't remember having any issues so far.

Best phones I've had for sure, and yes the software has a big part in it. Excited to try a flagship Google phone, and I think seriously props to Google for making me even consider a flagship even, because for me that's a first. Now that I could afford it, I wasn't much in doubt that I wasn't leaving pixel any time soon, even with other tempting options i didn't spend much time considering them.

I got my pixel 8 pro for the equivalent of £550/650 depending on how you weigh up the cost of a sim only contract minutes/data. For that price I think it's excellent. Camera is phenomenal, games play just fine, and battery when used in 1080/120hz mode is just great at around 8hrs+ screen on time. I only use the 1440p for films that support the higher resolution as my eyes at 50cm can't tell the difference between 1080p/1440p unless really looking for it. People need to chill about benchmarks and about having the bleeding edge. My oneplus 7T needed replacing because the USB became faulty and the battery started to fail a little, but in day to day tasks it managed just about fine apart from the odd bugs which were common even when new. My three complaints are it would be nice to have the same pro features but at say 6.4inches as even my big hands struggle occasionally. It would be nice if the 50MP photos took a little less time to shoot/be less susceptible to blurriness. And I would also like a samsung dex style chromebook ish experience.

I bought mine on release as they had a promotion of a free Pixel Watch 2(which sucked). It is a very good phone but not for the money. The camera is amazing. The build quality is nice, but charging is very slow, wifi keeps switching on,i find the screen overly senstive selecting things way too often and scrolls jerky and slow at times, phone reception is not great, temperature sensor is a waste and the performance is noticeably lagging behind top tier phones. It's still a great phone and the software carries it. But it just simply isn't worth it for the money when you can have a higher spec phone for the same price or close enough. Id give it 7/10.

Got the Pixel 8 Pro on release with the Pixel Watch 2 as a gift... Sold the watch and basically got the phone for its current price. I've been generally happy with the phone - it was my main shooter on a trip to South Korea, and the pictures & videos turned out amazing. It's fast for my use cases, haven't experienced any crashes or freezes or anything bad. My main complaint is the crappy fingerprint reader - coming from the Pixel 4a 5G, I still can't get over the fact that we moved away from capacitative fingerprint readers. I know other flagships use the newer & better ultrasonic underscreen fingerprint readers, but the Pixel 8 Pro still has the old light-based sensor. It's slow, not as reliable as the capacitative ones and blinds the balls out of me at night. Really disappointed. Other than that this is a 2-day phone for me with regular use at lower res & 120 Hz, which makes me feel safe & happy. I don't use it for gaming at all, so not phased about the performance there, but would be interesting to see how it works in 2030, if it even will 👀

I currently own a Pixel 7 Pro. I dropped it some time ago, and while it still works great, I can now hear rattling when I shake the phone. I also fancy a smaller phone. So I thought to myself that it's time for a change. Now I can't decide: should I wait for the smaller Pixel 9 Pro? Should I take Pixel 8, or maybe I should go for S23 (with its oversaturation) or S24 (with its exynos). Holy Rita, do help me in my first world torment! 😂

Pixel 8 (regular one) video stutters badly when filmed at 60FPS (both 4K and 1080p). Not sure if that's also the problem on the Pro, but yeah, basically 60FPS videos are unusable.

I went from pixel 7 to 8 pro for the zoom lense. Battery life isnt great and finger print reader is slower than the 7. I got the 256gb version, it was the most expensive phone I'd ever brought. I do like the vanilla android experience. I am disappointed to find that the screen has a few chips in it - that's the last time i listen to a reviewer saying it doesn't need a screen protector!

Got a used but mint one for £400, but even at this price i have some regrets 😂 the ONLY good things about this phone is camera, ergonomic in hand feel, updates. Thats it. Biggest complaint is that Battery life sucks and it gets toasty when gaming or doing anything demanding. With flagship killers you get good everything like battery performance etc, the only downside is the cameras are usually rubbish. P8p is like the opposite of a flagship killer, good cameras and nothing else LOL

I've had one for a bit over a week, the thing runs really warm doing basic tasks and gets uncomfortable to hold after 15-30 minutes. Wifi connection is also garbage, low connection where an iPhone 14 Pro would have good connection. I had to force it to stop auto selecting network because it would just chew through my cell data all day despite having wifi available, because the connection to wifi is just that abysmal it constantly disconnects. No other phone I've used has had poor wifi from my home connection. They almost got it, really close to being a perfect device but a couple frustrating issues makes it quite the opposite day to day.
