Clear cache and data file for Play store
Go to “Settings”.
Go to “Apps”.
Scroll down and look for “Google Play store”.
Select “Storage”.
Select “Clear cache”.
Select “Clear Data”.
Update Google Play store
Select “Play store”.
Tap on the menu icon.
Select “Settings”.
Select “Play store versions”.
If there is an update, Google Play store updates in the background.
If you don’t see anything that means Google Play store is already updated.
Remove Google account and add another one
You can also remove the google account from your android device and add another one.
Go to “Settings”.
Select “Accounts and backup”.
Select “Accounts”.
Now select the account which you want to remove.
Select “Remove account”.
Select “Remove account”.
Scroll down and select “Add account”.
Select “Google”.
Enter the google account.
Select “Next”.
Enter the password and select “Next”.
Select “I agree”.
Now again try to open Google Play store.

But for anyone having the problem, I did stumble unto a solution that worked for me: settings, apps, I deleted the caches for all the Google Play related apps and also deleted the data, then I deleted data on download manager, and downloads. Hope it helps anyone with this problem.
