IT carreer is not about getting more skills but more about taking more and more responsibility for the outcome of the project, technical planning, technical leadership, passion for programming and high output when there is need for coding. Very few people even in the USA match these criteria well. Just more skills and not experience is for service companies and it is to some extent a dead end.

My friend worked at Infosys for 2+ years with 6+ years of experience, and I found out she was paid peanuts. During those 2 years, she had called me crying several times, breaking down that she couldn't handle the work pressure. She was working 8am to 11-12 pm. every day with no overtime. She finally resigned later and moved on, but her experience was horrific. They don't think you are humans they think you are machines. She was single at the time, so her manager used to say why you can't work extra hours? You are single, so it shouldn't be a problem.

@@neferpitou3934 Yeah, but that does not mean it applies on someone, who already has to deal with a terrible routine due to financial conditions. And even worse, if someone is dealing with family problems And to be honest, companies like infosys exist, solely because, the west gets cheap labor with IT outsourcing, and already graduates are unemployed, to the point that they will accept anything in their fate. If one has to work 70 hours a day in office, there should be someone else, who will look after their meals, laundry, and what not (not even including entertainment, since that is the worst thing to do in life). Outsourcing household work makes sense only when you can spend money for them, not when one is already financially struggling. One more point to include here is that many of the products developed by product based companies are itself the technology skills shown by employees of service companies to develop applications. For e.g. AWS, ReactJs, mongodb, bootstrap, Kafka, mulesoft, SFDC, etc is being shown as a tech skill while hiring in service companies like TCS, Infy while these products, libraries or tech frameworks are actually being developed by product based companies like Google, meta, mongo, Salesforce,Linkedin, etc. that require one to know core engineering skills like DSA, OS concepts, core programming languages, system design to name a few. Hardly 5 percent of the people working in service companies might be actually having these core skills. Rest of them are only experts at best in using these products. Then how do you think they can get hired in product based companies. The service companies will not pay more to them as they only need to know how to work on these products to develop applications without applying any of the core engineering skills and there will be thousands of them available who can quickly learn such skills as they are very easy to learn from the documentation given by their creators.
@venkatn8262
@venkatn8262 4 ай бұрын
Even for AI, nothing much is going to change in these service companies. The product based companies are going to hire AI engineers to apply core skills to develop AI platforms and components like Tensor flow, Keras, LLMs etc, while service companies would hire AI engineers to develop applications based on them like the recent Gen AI ones

its not about skill it is the type of companies. Indian IT companies provide services at cheapest rates. Cheap rates do not convert to higher salaries. The law of economics kicks is in which is the worst case for people working in services sector.

There are alot of Good points with Indian IT companies which no one talks 1) They pay you 1/10 of there revenue vs Google paying 1/100 I know the actual package they provide is very low but the value we provide to them is also low. Not everyone works for 70 hours/week except very few. 2) They don't fire you as aggressive as Google. 3) And if you still think Indian IT companies are bad then you should join MAANG, but you can't. Because you don't have those skills, so stop blaming.

You are right bro if mediocre people like us could have gone to google then we would have had the capability to crack IIT also but the people who failed they should just accept that getting into big companies isn’t our cup of tea cuz if it was we would have cracked IIT and 90% IITians work in these big companies…….I don’t complain i know how my life will end I don’t have the brain to earn in lakhs and I don’t have the motivation to study and upskill my self passed my graduation in 2023 and now earning 2.5 lpa in a small software company where i work on python that too taking help from ai tools like chatgt and black box ai so i know my brain level and my skill level and that’s why I don’t complain in 10 years my salary would be 7, 8 lpa and i might not be happy with that but I won’t complain……because when my parents used to say study study crack IIT I didn’t listen them and now iam regretting it

I am a it manager in a retail company in Germany & we only keep the very important portfolios in the team & we move all the low hanging fruits to these consultancy. Basically i have worked previously both in consultancy and then in product based companies and i can say these consultancy call them technology partners but what they are basically a sourcing company-u need someone to fill up some small gaps & they provide the resources for that thats all. But let me tell you its not black and white & at this end of my career i am planning to switch to consulting because of the single pros in it -consulting firm work are like low brain storming work and low tension mundane work which i am at this age is willing to di for the rest of my life because i am tired now to bare the accountability, ownership, planning etc which comes with a product based job

First of all it very offensive to say labour to the engineers who worked on service based company. Second is not sure if you have any engineering experience or not. Context is very important and both the engineers solves a very different business challenges. For example product based company build the software at scale and make it market fit, where as service based company build multiple software or a part of software for a client. Even if both the case engineer write code to build software but the skills required is very different. Comparison is fine but let not call out anyone as labour especially when you have no clue of the context of both the business and what all engineer have to bear to earn living. 🙏

But there’s more to it. Not all can join tier 1 colleges so it’s ok to get placed in witch companies. But the actual “talents” there would just take that time to realise what they actually want - whether to study more or what they’re lacking, they make their network strong, learn new skills and make the move in the 2 yrs. 3.5lpa is not for you to save nd all.

One of the major problem in Indian society is majority of the educated youth have tendency to earn only after their graduation. It should be realised not every individual can be highly skilled but his/ her vocational skills should be good ....Remember we are the youth of that country whose young population is highest hence majority of them will not get jobs unless or until you are not exceptional one.

Well explained! Probably you can dig deeper into the workstyle as in Big tech they build algorithms and emphasize more on performance, memory and core computing skills (in short software engineering). Services tech typically are more into resource allocation and utilization for back office IT services for business enterprises. Cusotmer segmentation where they make revenue as well is widely different!

Comparing product-based and service-based companies in terms of compensation is challenging, as they operate under different dynamics.Product-based companies are often more demanding because their products directly impact end-users, creating a dependency on the company’s reliability and quality.In contrast, service-based companies primarily work on projects outsourced by other businesses. If a client is dissatisfied with the services or finds them too expensive, they can easily withdraw the project and engage another service provider. This difference in client relationships and dependency makes compensation structures vary significantly between the two types of companies.
