My guess is Japanese or a similar language could have caused that. Since Japanese does not have "L"s, they replace them with "R"s. Then translating it out could have easily swapped the "I" from "ri" with a double E since it might have gone phonetically. And phonetically, "ri" in Japanese would sound like "ree". I know I'm 8 years late to this, but I thought it would be a fun thing to say.
