I also did the course and it was very informative to be honest. The amount of information provided is immense and goes just beyond studying. You learn things like how to collaborate with other, receive feedback, prepare for interviews for junior UX roles, and advice if you want to become a freelance. Things to watch out are: Avoid using multiple platforms like different desktop devices because that might erase some of, even all your progress in your course. There’s a lot of copying from other peoples’ work which I personally to agree with. Some people will do minimal work but expect you to give the a good score. However, if you’re ever thinking of doing this course, don’t even have doubts about finishing it. It’s totally worth because it teaches you critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and prepares you for a wide array of opportunities.

Hello Aliena, I think that many people jump into UX design without really asking the most important question which is, “Is UX design for me and do I enjoy doing it?” I am taking a free course from Coursera to help me answer that question. I suggest those who don’t know UX like myself do the same before putting money down.

I am in section 6 of 7 for this google UX course and I think it sucks. It's all out of order with one section talking about something you haven;t learned about yet. Then you get to the next day and they introduce you to the subject that you had to google the day before. There are LINKS in the course that say "Go back for a refresher on this topic if you are confused." When you click the link it takes you to future classes you have not done yet. HOW BACKWARDS!!! HOW FRUSTRATING!!! Not to mention, Coursera has some of the worst UX I have seen and to have a UX course hosted here is simply mixing signals. Google seems more concerned with teaching us about gender non-binary folks than UX. I am a proud supporter of my LGBTQIA+ community, including helping to book the first (and second) biggest pride parades in my city. But when every example in this course has multiple make believe people in it, all identifying as they/them, it becomes damn near impossible to know what the quiz questions are asking, or who we are talking about. It's an embarrassingly pathetic attempt at virtue signalling during a paid course. Go anywhere else if you are a beginner and avoid the confusion.

Thanks for the review of Google UX Design. Your positive review was helpful for me to decide whether should I take it or not. Was little bit hesitating that this 7 courses may take longer time. Not bragging about myself, I was able to finish all 7 courses in 44 days (and I did not skip) mostly due to my background in this field. I'm just trying to encourage others (experienced one's) to give it a try as well, don't hesitate about how long the course is. It took me quite a bit of my time to finish it and I enjoyed the last one a lot. It's a recap of 5 & 6 course, but allows us to design our own unique project.

I agree with your opinion that the volume on course 6 & 7 are incomparable with 5 other courses Lol I’m now almost done course 6. One thing I want them to improve is communication features in between other students. Making a good connection with other designer in the world would be much more excitement than just learning on your own :)
@brandondang57652 жыл бұрын
As a person who completed the Project Management Google Certificate, I can also agree that the interaction with other students is very limited if not there at all. In my case, aside from the Project Management peer review assignments, I almost never interacted with anybody else from that class. The way that it was structured and making users to a separate forum to talk about the different assignments made it more of a hassle then having maybe a toggle chat feature to talk to other students.

What do you mean incomparable? Is week 6 and 7 too much? I have bought course only for 1 month and want to finish everything. Currently at course 4.

@@akj3344 I mean there are way more tasks and assignments at course 6 & 7 compare to the previous ones (course 1 to 5). However at course 6, you’ll have to complete a responsive website design with at least 3 different sizes of devices only for a month through the whole process as you did during the last 5 courses. At course 7, you’ll get new other project which has same amount of tasks as course 6. In addition, you’ll get to create your own portfolio website just for a month. Great explainer video! I'm a UX designer and was considering taking this course, but seems a bit dense. Seems like some people in the comments were able to complete it in a shorter time span. Nonetheless, awesome video :) You are very good articulating and explaining your design process. Keep it up :)

I agrre with your comments totally. I also recently obtained the certificate. What saddens me is how employers don't take this certificate seriously. They have no idea how difficult it is, they think this is just another Google course you can finish online in a day or so.

As a current UX Designer in the industry, but someone who is always trying to learn more and keep growing, I'm excited at the breadth of topics and information covered in the program and I'm really looking forward to it! Plus I'm excited to (hopefully) meet other like-minded designers along the way. Thanks again for the excellent review! I just subscribed :)

Thank you for your insightful review!! I'm a graphic designer with little UX background looking to switch to Product Design, so this has been very helpful! Plus, I love that you also went through your three projects/case studies with us-they turned out great! I was wondering if you know whether the course enrolment is on a rolling basis or if there are specific start dates? Thanks again :)

(asking because I was hoping to enroll and actively start the courses next month, but I only came across this course recently and it says the start date is tomorrow! lol so I'm hoping there are later dates that just keep updating on a rolling basis)

Rolling Basis! Don’t worry about their deadline and dates. You can take it whenever you want. It’s a self-paced course 😄

@@AlienaCai Hello again! I finally started taking the course and am on Course 2 Week 2. I'm wondering whether or not your three case studies were done towards the last few courses? Or were one of these projects the one you did for Course 2/the very first project prompt. Like you mentioned in this video, I'm having a hard time relating to or feeling inspired by any of the prompts given for this first project I'm about to start. I have another prompt in mind that is also as general as the Sharpen prompts but is more aligned with my interests... is the Course 2/first project a through/detailed one? Or is it more of a quick project where I won't get to produce a lot of designs.. which in this case, I should keep my idea for later and just choose one from Sharpen for this first project? Thanks again for your input! :)

Hi Elena, I know in the beginning of the google UX course they mention how they will prepare you for job interviews and help you with finding a job. Are you at that stage yet and how did you find it?
@AlienaCai3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, it will provide you the skill that is needed and take you through 3 projects to build a portfolio. However, it is better is you make sure you have real life project (collaborated with other people and launched the product). Otherwise, it might be better to start with freelancing. I am currently freelancing :)

@AlienaCai2 жыл бұрын
I think this course will be a good start for you! Please keep in mind that you need both skill and experience for a UX role, as the competition is high and most companies are looking for senior UXers. I suggest you to try to work on one or two collaborative real life projects for your portfolio and also open for free-lance roles :D Hope this helps. With a customer service experience, you will rock everything UX interview related :D

Nice that you managed to get the certificate, but in my opinion is not actually a great working experience as you should always use as much native UI components. Most of the UI created by you is custom UI, by doing so you may double or triple de development time plus the time needed to maintain the project longterm. You should also start by understanding the native ecosystem and work with it not against it. You should put yourself this questions: - How do you navigate through an app: navigation controller, tab bar controller - What type of transition animation is needed
