You can also just turn your old WiFi router with built in gigabit switchport into unmanaged switch, you just have to make sure you disable in old router settings WiFi, dhcp, routing and assign it unmanaged static IP address from google WiFi. I have my own google WiFi connected to Linksys e3200 running on Advanced Tomato firmware.

Dude I have a EA9500 Max-Stream AC5400 my only main router until I get google wifi fiber this weekend and I still want to use this router and I have a switch as well but my router doesn't allow any custom firmware. So what were the steps you did to prevent this double Nat crap I keep hearing about? I have a switch as well I'll have to probably change the setttings thru the web base for linkysys vs the app I think there's more options that pops up. I just know google support said google wifi is not compatible with non google devices hmmmn I think it could work if setup right.

Thank you! I have been struggling to speed up the wifi to the far end of the house. You told me I could have multiple ethernet cables going from the switch to Google wifi routers. I did it for three and it workr just fine. Now everthing just screams! Note I took the line from the fiberjack to the first Google router and the return line from it back to the switch. The other two routers got direct lines from the switch.

I want to be able to use the main Google mesh access point in the middle of the house, which is where I have several devices that need wifi. The internet comes into my house in a utility room at the far end of the house, where I have a high-speed Internet modem with one ethernet connection. In that room, I need hard wired ethernet connections for connection to a generator, alarm system and phone modem. I would like to connect my switch to the internet modem and connect those ethernet cables to the switch. I have another ethernet cable running from the utility room to the middle of my house. Just ordered a nest WiFi (1 main and 2 points). I also have a leftover Google WiFi from a 3 pack. My uncle has 2 net gear powerline av500. His router is currently on one end of the house and is hardwired to net gear powerline to the other end of the house. Then the net gear beams across his driveway to his shed. I tested the WiFi via Speedtest. The office closest to router got 40mb. The other end of the house next to hardwired powerline got 12mb and shed got .1 lol. I’m hoping the Google nest/WiFi will fix his issue.

I'm not sure if you have answered this in a previous comment, but is it possible to just connect the main Puck to the gigabit switch? If that is the case, would it affect the overall performance of wifi? I just got a 5-port switch (even though I asked for a network box from Google fiber) and was wondering on how to hardline it so that I can get the gig speed for my pc as well for the security system my father installed around the house.

Then when I try to run from Main Switch to hardline Xbox using the One Ethernet Port provided, the Xbox does not recognize the ethernet connectivity, it only recognizes the WiFi. Were you able to fix this?

I have wifi on my internet modem which is connected to the other wifi router with wired connection on the other side of the apartment. So the coverage is fine, but I have two independent wifi networks and that's why I am considering Google WiFi Mesh. Question that I have is: As I also have devices that I prefer to be connected by wire connections on both sides, if I connect two switches, on two Google WiFi nodes, are they gonna be all visible as on the same network? Like, you can access shared folders from computers on TV/PS4...

Not sure of the model I bought them a year or two ago in a three pack. They look identical to the ones you have in your video. My pass is the same as you have in your video. Cat five cable out of modem into first puck cat five cable out of first puck in to switch. I only pay for 150 download speed. I get a consistent 175 download speed on Wi-Fi. Everything out of the switch tests below 100 mostly around 95. However if I eliminate the switch and only hook one device up out of the first puck it tests at 175. Perplexing.

I see you were able to get 400 down on wireless, but wired you are getting 1GB. Is it possible for me to still get 400 over wireless even if my max is 400 on cable? Second, can I use these Google Wifi dudes, to connect my computer that is far away from my modem into a wired connection? I'm currently using some power switches that go on the wall. However, with those guys, I only get 100MB down instead of 400. You can actually use both of those Ethernet ports if you are hooking into a 2nd or more point in the meshed system but that said…. I’ve been using one of mine to extent to older Ethernet only pcs for some LAN Half-Life gaming from the main point in another part of the house. I’m getting that switch right now because I was about to eBay an additional Wi-Fi point to add more Ethernet to my basement. Your way of getting those ports into my basement is far more affordable. Thanks for the tip!

Im so confused with the netgear. Do you just plug in the google fiber into it then all of the others that are connected to the netgear are connected to the google fiber?

I don't know what you mean by Google fiber. The switch provides an ethernet connection to the main Google access point.

Can I connect all 3 mesh units to a switch (via RJ45) and then the switch uplink port connects to the router's LAN then router's WAN to Modem?
@landonbaileytech
@landonbaileytech 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. Can you describe what you're trying to achieve? Like how do you want to use each access point. I believe one access point must be hardwired to your modem, then you're free to do whatever you want beyond that. But I haven’t tried every config

@@landonbaileytech What I want to do is take advantage of the speed of hardwiring ethernet. After short research looks like I will have to set a unit as the main unit and connect the satellite units either wirelessly or to the LAN ports of the main units, however, if the main unit is limited to 2 Ethernet ports (like google's case) I can use a switch to expand main unit's LAN and plug all satellites to the switch. My original thought is I can eliminate masterslave units config and treats all 3 units as satellites (i.e. hook all 3 units' WAN port to the switch, then switch uplink port to a wifi router's LAN, then router's WAN to cable modem), but looks like doing that will lose the mesh feature (it won't hand over devices from one unit to another seamlessly). That's something I wanted to confirm with you. Thank you so much.

ya you always need a main unit otherwise you lose the mesh feature.

Hi. Thanks for the uploading the stream. I am going to get some NAS tech when the new Synology 720+ is available. However I am debating how to do this and wondered if you had any thoughts. Currently I have router => google wifi mesh. I am trying to work out whether to move to option 1 or option 2. Option 1 being router => google wifi mesh => (smart) switch. OR Option 2, router =>(smart) switch => google wifi mesh. My NAS would be hanging off the Switch with either setup. Can you think of benefits or disadvantages of either way?

I've had the 3-point google wifi system (1st gen) for over 2 years.. I definitely noticed slower speeds over time and some devices dropping connection during "Prime hour/peak days" so to speak. I ended up finally adding a 5 port switch and hardwiring all 3 of my Google wifi puks. Internet modem > WAN (globe) icon on main google point > 5port switch back to 2nd ethernet network port on main google point > 2 other google puks hardwired back to the 5port gigabyte switch and BAM. Max internet speeds on all 3 puks when using wifi.

I can’t say it will give you any performance increase. I have disabled the built-in wifi on the Rogers modem, and enabled bridge mode to allow a connection to the Google Wifi. As far as I know, you have to do that.
