I don't understand the "Edu needs to go" narrative; some are saying if he doesn't sign anybody this summer - which is for the birds as we will sign somebody - and some just are saying it regardless. But I can't square that circle, he's built our best squad we've had in the last two decades, has made some tough decisions around established stars futures and in the last few years has barely missed in the market. For balance, he does need to sell better (though last summer was better) but even so I find the narrative baffling.

I don't know why some folk allow themselves to get so worked up about their perceived shortcomings of a transfer window when it is still so early. Personally I will reserve any kind of judgement on Arsenal's transfer dealings this window until after the window has closed. In the meantime I won't allow myself to be frustrated by the unknown as it is a futile exercise that will only serve to dampen my mood. I know it’s a big “if” but if the same team that played the majority of last season gets a fully fit and inform Partey, Martinelli, Jesus and Timber back do you think that is enough alone to go further than last season? I didn't know why people were expecting anything to be done before the end of June. We had to loan Raya rather than buying him to keep us compliant with financial regulations for this financial window. I expect early July will be fairly busy

A successful window is signing Fofana for me, with "someone" versatile added to the frontline that Edu/Arteta finds interesting so Saka can be rotated (Jesus could play a role on the right too). And sales for Eddie, Reiss & ESR or Viera at least. 👍 I don't mind letting Partey run his contract down and have him help for the handful of games he'll be fit for. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I suppose we do need to sign a #2 keeper at least even if Ramsdale just goes on loan. 🤔

Lokonga is a failure for the recruitment team. It's fine to admit that. However, those who use this to beat Edu and Arteta down cannot tell me that this isn't agenda driven. Not all signings will be hits and we certainly can't be looking at signings in isolation when measuring the recruitment teams success.

Normally agree with a lot of your takes Tom but, calling Arsenal savvy for including a obvious sell on clause on a youth player they lost because they penny and dimed on the contract and then lost out on millions in sales that Chelsea eventually got the better half of is oxymoronic, especially considering we bought Lokonga and Tavares(players of similar age) and made losses on both. It’s just bad business all around when it comes to this. Makes me think about how maybe Omari thought Arsenal weren’t even good enough to create a market for him like Chelsea have with clubs like Ipswich etc. We really need to up our game when it comes to the loan market and also identifying better young players that we can flip for profit rather than losses. I don’t think it’s easy but i think it’s something that immediately needs to be addressed and I think it all tied back to the lack of respect towards Arsenal in the transfer market. How the hell are this version of Chelsea getting more for a young player who’s barely even featured for them than UCL competing Arsenal can for Lokonga who’s played quite a few games for us and pretty much a whole season for Luton and did decent? Really waiting to see what we make on our sales this summer, need to see some good money coming in because I think we aren’t hamstrung like we were before.

@@TheGoonerTalkTV whatever we did it was evidently lesser than £3000 a week or 156k according to capology that have mentioned his wages to be around the £3000 a week(not sure how precise these reports are). Chelsea decide to pay his 156k for a year? And now sell him for 22m, do you see the penny and diming now? Even if these reports aren’t precise they must be in the ballpark through extrapolation, and it’s clear Chelsea were able to spot a clearly “flippable asset” and followed through with resounding success despite the state they’re in. Our sell on clause is like a consolation prize is all I’m saying, not really “savvy” but the bear minimum I would hope.

If my justification is not reliable then do let me know, otherwise it’s clear to see Arsenal bet wrong on this one. Heck even if he wanted 20k per week he’d be worth +20x what we would’ve paid him in wages if we sold him like Chelsea have. Not really sure why you conveniently chose to ignore the evidence I bought to the table with sources presented in favour of a rhetorical question in poor faith that doesn’t carry the discussion anywhere.
