@@notbrutustheanimator Although Odalia Rush had portrayed her as pretty boy newcomer/teen protagonist Zach Conner's girlfriend & the adopted daughter of Jack Black's movie version of author R.L. Stine in the 2015 theatrical film (in a bit of meta humor, the real R.L. Stine appeared near the end as drama teacher Mr. Black), the actual character of Hannah Fairchild is ultimately a _Goosebumps_ creation, don't forget (she IS _The Ghost Next Door_ from the book of the same name; Officially, _The Ghost Next Door_ is the 12th book in the original lineup of 62 stories, following after Carly Beth Caldwell as the protagonist/unfortunate host of _The Haunted Mask_ which was the 11th book out of the original 62, but it was chosen as the inaugural TV episode produced [the 1995-1998 _Goosebumps_ TV show featured Kathryn Long as Carly Beth & Kathryn Short as Carly Beth's best friend Sabrina Mason in a bit of humorous character casting by the producers], simply because, outside of evil dummy Slappy, The Haunted Mask is R.L. Stine's favorite monster, which in turn begs the question as to why Carly Beth [this time, being portrayed by the tiny Clare Halstead] as the victim of The Haunted Mask was reduced to a few scant background cameo appearances in the 2015 theatrical film despite promotional pictures for said movie show Carly Beth/The Haunted Mask on-set having semi-romantic interactions with Slappy [If these cute interactions with the evil dummy were part of a genuine _Goosebumps_ script, they would unfortunately genuinely undermine the ambitions of The Haunted Mask, since all of The Unloved -- this includes both the OG Haunted Mask & the Old Man mask from _The Haunted Mask II_ [a version of it had affixed itself over retail store worker Walter's face in the 2018 sequel film _Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween_ but rather than turn Walter into an withered old man like it had turned Steve Boswell into as per the source book & corresponding '90s TV show adaptation it originated from, this take on the Old Man mask from _The Haunted Mask II_ lifted from a rack of tie-in _Goosebumps_ merchandise conveniently found inside the store itself instead subsequently turned Walter into a powerful but dimwitted Shrek-like henchman placed under Slappy's control until the mask could be pried from Walter's face following the evil dummy's defeat] -- have their victim's self-love as their definitive weakness).

I remember when Goosebumps got really popular. I was in first grade and that was the main reason anyone ever went to the school library. The early ones like Night of the Living Dummy and Say cheese and Die came out when i was a bit too young, but i knew about them. The ones i remember the most at school based on the covers were The Barking Ghost and a Shocker on Shock Street. One of the most nostalgic for me was Be careful what you wish for. I have memories of my mom reading it to me when i was really young. Sadly i think i donated my books to a public library.

The Haunting Hour was legitimate adult horror. I remember "I'm not Martin" and "You Could Die Laughing". That shit legitimately scared me and served as my transition from "cutesey horror" to the big boys like Anne Rice, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, etc. R.L Stine got me INTO reading. My favorite authors are Bukowski, Burroughs, Kerouac, (mostly the beatnik writers but still love horror and true crime) but IT ALL started with R.L Stine. I'd LOVE to interview this legend. I have my normal questions then my more "salacious" questions😈 (Mr.Stime, what kind of drugs were you on?) Lol I'll always love R.L Stine. This is peak nostalgia for me. And he created that.

My earliest memories of Goosebumps was my big brother reading them to me(he was born in 84 and I in ver late 89). I wasnt a strong reader until the early 2000s when I became a full blown Potterhead still am. He read a few to me though I don't remember much more than my cool older brother letting me hang out with him. I remember always seeing them in his room growing up. By the time I enjoyed reading I was a bit too old to really enjoy them since I wasn't nostalgic for the books themselves but my brother who was now inviting me to watch more adult horror (Halloween, Evil Dead and Romero movies) after he convinced our mom and her seeing I could handle them. Goosebumps is an awesome gateway to other horror for kids and I wish I sucked it up as a kid to enjoy them.

Apparently the sequel only made $95 Million of it's $35 Million budget which taking into account marketing costs which is usually double the production budget as a rule of thumb since those are not disclosed means it only made $25 Million in profit leaving a 3rd film uncertain. If they do though they NEED to do Horrorland!

@classyonabudget4758
@classyonabudget4758 3 жыл бұрын
@@benderbendingrodriguez420 It definitely wasn't. I think Sony secretly wanted it to fail, because the final version we got was probably the best case scenario. To explain, I remember when they first announced the sequel, it was indeed titled 'Goosebumps: Horrorland', with a Sony Pictures imdb page. Then it changed to Slappy Halloween, then just Haunted Halloween. The move was almost the EXACT same as the first minus any more of the monsters from the books (the only reason we were excited to see the first one). Slappy shows up, awakens monsters (in this one the bears replaced the gnomes, the spider replaced the mantis, Slappy is the cause of it all, etc.), and is defeated. The first third of the movie is just a retelling of the Night of the Living Dummy book- like we all know Slappy is alive at this point... so why? I get heated thinking about it because if you're to make a sequel, why not try to go all out and create the weirdest, best idea you can with a constricted budget? They just made a less-Goosebumps-ish retelling of the first film and ended it with a tease of what this movie SHOULD have been about. Imagine if Goosebumps the movie came out in the late 90s/early 2000s and we got the creators and artists from films like Jumanji, Hook, or Beetlejuice.

The best move by the studio would be to go with a Horrorland arc for the third film. They dropped the ball on marketing for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, also cutting Jack Black's involvement in the story so much it felt weird. I enjoyed the sequel though, even with its hiccups Fingers crossed they'll give us one more movie!

Oh, it lets me to refresh my memories. For me as one of Y Generation "Goosebumps", "Are you afraid of the Dark" and other spooky TV shows were good substitute of folklore stories and fairy tales. Once upon time everyone in traditional society was living in the world inhabited by ogres, werewolves etc. It was childhood of mankind. But now all of us who lives in Modern Western world want to forget real fears of adult life (credits, house bill, prices growing and on). And we read and watch again and again scary books and shows from our childhood. Then it was scream of terror but now you laugh saying: "It's a perfect scream!"

Brings back fond memories of watching this show in the 90's as a kid, they seemed so scary now as an adult they are cheesy but I can appreciate how RL Stine used horror as an allegory for childhood and of the tribulations that come with it; such as moving to a new place, school, siblings, etc.

Actually, there is the implied threat of death. For example, in a lot of those "Give Yourself Goosebumps" scary endings, only a small handful end happily. The rest have your character be tortured, trapped for eternity, enslaved to an evil force, or outright get killed. In the original book of _The Haunted Mask_ (Besides Slappy's stories, Carly Beth Caldwell as the favorite host of The Haunted Mask is R. L. Stine's favorite), The Shopkeeper (played by Colin Fox on the '90s TV series) tells Carly Beth (played by Kathryn Long in the '90s TV series & Clare Halstead in the 2015 feature film as a background cameo) that the only way The Unloved (the collection of genuine deformed faces posing as horrifying Halloween masks The Shopkeeper created out of his own self-loathing & low self-esteem issues) can be defeated is through the use of a Symbol of Love (which is what the plaster of Paris bust of Carly Beth's own head created by her artsy mother represented in the original story, although it would end up smashed in the TV adaptation of the sequel book _The Haunted Mask II_ [Canonically, however, the actual book version of _The Haunted Mask II_ doesn't feature Carly Beth outside of a fleeting mention when Steve Boswell laments that he wants to be something really terrifying for his last full year of Halloween fun before growing out of it, nor does the book include the original Haunted Mask at all since the focus was all on Steve's struggles with transforming into an Old Man until he found a way to remove the Old Man Mask by reuniting it with the spider-covered tuxedo suit it was originally meant to be pre-packaged with as a costume set which suddenly springs to life all on its own & skips off merrily into the night whilst leaving an extremely confused Steve in its wake, whereas the TV episode intentionally features the original Haunted Mask as the core villain & features Carly Beth quite prominently, since The Haunted Mask's ultimate goal is to make her wear its face forever]). And yet, by the time _Goosebumps: Scream of The Haunted Mask_ (which had been part of the 12 late '00s comeback _Goosebumps Horrorland_ books, even if it actively retcons the events of _The Haunted Mask II_ by having its own sequence of events narrated by Carly Beth herself in first-person also take place the year following her first scary adventure with The Haunted Mask) had released, both the questionable ending to that particular story (Carly Beth actually willingly makes a temporary pact with The Haunted Mask as a form of Lawful Evil battling against the vengeful resurrected ghost of Laura Henry as a Chaotic Evil former host of The Haunted Mask who had returned from the grave to reclaim The Haunted Mask back so she could wreak havoc once again using the mysterious malevolent power which reawakens The Haunted Mask from its sleep each Halloween, but when Carly Beth refused to hand The Haunted Mask over to her, Laura became an angry swirling vortex of ghost energy until Carly Beth in partnership with The Haunted Mask somehow caused Laura's ghost to dissipate at the stroke of midnight upon forcing her to undergo the same set of circumstances that led to her tragic death via phantom horse stampede all over again; Thankfully, Carly Beth was seemingly spared the fate of repeating Laura's grave mistake -- despite having The Haunted Mask atop her own face -- due to the fact that she had been carrying a plastic bag full of cut-up carrot sticks on her person that strangely mysteriously disappeared from her pants pocket once the phantom horses had finished encircling Laura's frightened spook & essentially forced her soul to finally crossover to the other side, since the phantom horses somehow instinctively realized that Carly Beth at heart was an animal lover & saw the carrots as her Symbol of Love for them, so they spared her, which in turn, ended the short truce between The Haunted Mask & Carly Beth, with it reminding her that she'll always be its favorite & that it looks forward to the next Halloween before going back to sleep once the power keeping it awake goes away for another year), coupled with the fact that tiny Clare Halstead's 2015 feature film design for The Haunted Mask doesn't have any visible room for Carly Beth's dirty blond/light brown hair to peak through would suggest that The Haunted Mask's finally gotten its wish to make Carly Beth its permanent host forever, given the "rule of three" limit given to her from The Shopkeeper that Carly Beth's obviously gone beyond at this point.

I was born in 95 so by the time I was reading, I had JUST missed the original Goosebumps craze. I had the VHS tapes and in Preschool/ Kindergarten I caught it on TV here and there. But this video explains that weird period of time where Goosebumps just disappeared. When i first started going on KZbin, it blew my mind that i could watch full episodes on here (at the time.) . It was like opening Pandora’s box - and that Cartoon Network promo at 20:09 ?? I think that aired when I was in middle school and that shit rocked my world. FINALLY my baby was back. I almost couldn’t believe that it was true. I was able to watch so many of those episodes for the first time during that October run!

I remember Goosebumps Mania hit us like none other when I was in the second grade...everyone was reading it and if you weren't you were out of the loop. My first Goosebumps book I believe I purchased was Deep Trouble II with the menacing goldfish on the cover. Long after Goosebumps had left and went with the other fads of elementary school, I believe it was my junior year of high school where Cartoon Network began airing Goosebumps as a part of their Halloween special or something like that. Instantly, I watched all the episodes and became hooked. It was as if I were a kid again. I still love the TV series as it is nostalgically piercing to me and my favorite episode would be Perfect School

I did grow up in the 90's, but I never paid these much attention. At first I thought they sounded "too scary", then my brother got some and I read bits and didn't find them that interesting. My jam was The Famous Five, which had been popular when my mother was a kid! Later on I just started reading Star Wars tie-ins, as interest in that started ramping up for it's 25th anniversary. I kinda wanna catch up on Goosebumps now, though. Also there was a book called Only You Can Save Mankind! (If Not You, Who Else?) that was big at my school. That was pretty cool.
