I've had mine converted for about 2 years now set truck up with ride right load helper air springs and add a load hight regulator to keep truck at constant ride hight then cut down the tube on the trailer to have trailer frame level for even weight distribution across all 3 alxels of the trailer then welded the adapter soild it pulls better than any other gooseneck I've pulled and I'll never go back to a ball I have pulled backhoes for hundreds of thousands of miles on regular gooseneck trailers i have learned to hate the constant jockeying forward and backwards as your cruise control adjusts up and down hills I don't have any issues now so my advice is get truck and trailer matched up and use air ride systems to keep everything level no matter what legal weight you need to carry its just as forgiving loaded as it is empty its not just the fith wheel that's the answer its ride hight constancy throughout from minimum to maximum keeping the trailer level is another key along with air ride trailer and bang it pulls like a dream even on old dirt oil field lease roads

Good info. Thank you! I've been looking at cutting the tube off and moving it up to level it out. Love the way it rides on fifth wheel just has noise off trailer too high by almost 3 inches. Thank you a lot for your comment

The full face pad will make it a lot better. More surface area on the 5th wheel plate the better

I'm going to wind up doing the same thing. I don't think you need the chains with the kingpin. Otherwise, we have a whole lot of RVs breaking the law.

It's working good moving new empty trailers but it does carry them high in the front. I pulled the trailer in the video with a 1 ton flat bed. I could tell it made the truck handle different. Wish it sat just a little lower but it does keep me from pulling the hitch. Im pulling bumper hitch now and when I drop it off im picking up a mac horse trailer with living quarters going from Indiana to Florida. Will be the furthest I've used it so far.

Yeah, any fifth wheel kingpins I have seen, have a cable that connects to the hitch, in the event the trailer disconnects, pulls the cable and sets the brakes.

As far as your riding high observation... mine sits level with a load (3/4 ton diesel). 40ft triple axle. So far I love the conversion

I have a question sir. Using your gooseneck with 5th wheel have you been in a situation where your drive wheels lost traction due to not have the movement as the gooseneck ball set up? I’ve been thinking of getting the shocker set up for gooseneck to help with the bucking but started thinking as you did that I should consider going 5th wheel set up to have a wider range of hauling for my business. I haven't had that issue. The Gooseneck does ride better on the fifth wheel. The only issue that I've had is the truck carrying the trailer to high in the front with a heavy load the truck doesn't drive a good as with it on the ball (or when the trailer sits level). But definitely still rides better. I've thought about moving the hitch on my trailer up 3 inches or lifting my trailer 2 inches then it would be great.i have talked to other people that used the adapter that sit perfect with it and love it but every trailer I've used it on rides a little high in the front

You could also consider using the kingpin to gooseneck ball adapter as well. It's one piece that locks into your 5th wheel and the gooseneck couples to ball on top.

​@weslymanley8953 I would not use that. There are too many connection points, and you'd still have to use safety chains.

Fifth Wheels do not require a safety chain because the hitch does not have the potential to slip off a ball like a bumper pull or goose neck does. The replacement for a safety chain would be the king pin lock “retainer”. Hope that helps

A lot time on the sides of the fifth hitch in truck you can raise and lower it should be bolts on the sides. I have a slider one made by Reese and it does. Look the hitch up on website and should show you how to do it.

I've looked on my hitch and b&w website and haven't found any adjustment yet. The stationary hitches you can unbolt and move up and down but mine doesn't have the extra holes to use. I'm still working on it tho. Thank you for your comment

I changed my 40ft gooseneck over to a fifth wheel because of my camper...I never use the chains. I did leave them on there though in case someone else tows it gooseneck style again

Hey that's great, wish you could share pics here. Would like to see it. I do like the ride of the fifth wheel over gooseneck ball and I dol use it especially on short trips and light trailers. Im going to have d rings welded to my fifth wheel so I have somewhere to hook my chains. May have to put a 2 inch lift on my gooseneck, lol

it rides heavier on the truck and back axle of trailer.it works good transporting empty trailers but i pulled a 1 ton flatbed on my trailer in the video about 150 miles and i didn't like it.it'll have it's purpose with me but another long heavy trip it will go back on the ball.

Yes, they're both 2 inch kingpin as far as i know and i did originally buy my kingpin adapter so i could pull my Gooseneck with my semiand it hooked to both fifth wheels perfect

I also called a friend who pulls his 40ft toy hauler and asked hom if he knew of any instances it wouldn't work had never had an issue either

I didn't but my fifth wheel slid all the way to the back of the frame. I don't remember any issues even in the forward position but even when i was hooked to a flatbed mine was slid further back than most
