I have been using various float tubes for close to 20 years now. You certainly touched on some aspects that I had not even considered in all that time (when you gotta go, you gotta go lol). Anyways, just thought that I would add a few things: 1) Use a PFD (lifejacket)! Important! 2) Using chest waders to stay dry helps keep a person warm (important in colder weather), but adds another element to the situation of having to urinate... just saying... 3) Investing in high quality flippers makes for an easier kick around the lake; using a "kicker keeper" strap that attaches the flipper to one's leg helps prevent the loss of your main propulsion device at the worst possible time. 4) You talk about getting in and out of the float tube, and that this proved challenging. Backing up into the water while wearing flippers makes life easier. Hold your fishing pole in one hand, and keep the other hand on the float tube so that it does not float away. As an "young at heart older person" I have not had any trouble getting in or out of the water this way with my gear. I enjoyed your videos on this product! I found this on Amazon, and was wondering about the quality and other details that you covered. Thank you for that. If ever you are up north of the border and want to hike into some backwoods lake in the central part of Canada with your float tube on your back, and the rest of your gear in your hands, let me know!

What kind of flippers do you recommend?I just got a float tube and I was having trouble going in the direction I wanted to. I was going in an circle. It was my first time using a float tube and used the flipper it came with

I don’t think waders are the vest option for this , I’ve heard story’s of people drowning in waders because they act like a anchor when filled , maybe dry suit is best (I have my eye on some “skins” brand ones that seem to be perfect) but I’m not that big into waders idk if some have away to avoid that incase if accident

I bought two cheap ping pong paddles, drilled holes in the handles and tied @ 3 to 4 feet of paracord to them. I can hang them around my neck and they work well as paddles. I can also store them behind me with the cord still around my neck.

The floating live wells may work good for this. I think I’m sold on this float. Good review. Thumbs up just for the peeing explanation 😂

Great review! I currently fish from a kayak, seriously considering one of these for hands-free mobility and maneuvering and holding position against a breeze. For a stringer, I use a plastic mesh onion bag. Not incredibly durable, but the price is right!

I feel like an anchor (they make bag type ones that don’t weigh anything packed cuz you use water to weigh the bag) and a bug mesh suit or head peace if your in a area with a lot of mosquitoes. Where I live , this would be asking to get absolutely swarmed with no escape from mosquitos

That setup seems a bit overpowered for the trout magnet, doesn't it? 65 lb braid can reel you in a pig

Hey! I have one myself, I'm in Canada Saskatchewan and we use chest waders when water is cold, most of out lakes are pretty chilly, also keeps us dry!!! You should try them out! Then you need boot fins, I havent gotten out yet Cruz iv been sick, but when u mentioned the oar because I did the same thing, I bought a telescope oar. Good luck and I really recommend them, also the keep the leeches off lol! My tube goes all the way around the back so it's nice to lean back and not have something half way down my back, I couldn't do that because my back would be killing me! Fish on!!! Enjoy!!!

Fins really make a big difference I dont use those types of fins I recommend body boarder fins there the best you can get for maneuvering and speed ive used them in the ocean with real currents for years they work even better in lakes

As for a rod holder, find a plastic holder that you can velcro to your tube!!!

Thought about a small trolling motor? I just ordered the float, mabey with a mod or 2 and a lithium battery.......
@robertkniss6957
@robertkniss6957 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a lot of work for a float. Probably be better off getting a kayak if you want something with a motor on it. Boat registration laws are different in every state, but i'm pretty sure that i'd have to register my float here in ohio if i put a motor of any kind on it. Not sure though, look into it and best of luck!
@JohnTaylor-vw8nd
@JohnTaylor-vw8nd 3 жыл бұрын
Ive made a few boats, and yeah the laws for motors require title HIN and registration . Like 60$ Ill look into it if want to be real lazy on the water. Thanks for the video, it was helpful
@jeanmousseau5575

Some brands of float tubes can accept a trolling motor. If this is a deal breaker, I would suggest looking into inflatable pontoon boats that have the higher weight capacity to handle the extra weight of a motor and a battery. Even if you were to adapt/modify a float tube to take a motor and battery, you would still need to find a way to control the motor (on/off, speed). Controlling the direction si easy to do if you are wearing fins. You also have tp realize that the float tubes are made to move you backwards through the water. Yes, ttrolling motors have reverse, but they are mostly made for moving forward. This adds to the modifications needed.

I just bought that same exact float tube, I went out last weekend and it was a disaster. I didn’t have a good set of flippers and I had to work extra hard to get anywhere. Any advice?

Some floats have higher seats keeps you high of the water hence less drag. Also float with current and when you are done fishing take a hike back if you know there is a trail.freedivers/spearfishers long fiber glass fins are efficient but a lil pricey, and lastly improve your fining technique .

Is it easier to move against wind with a paddle? In that float? That specific float coma with a paddle now.
@jeanmousseau5575
@jeanmousseau5575 2 ай бұрын
Different float tubes ride at different depths in and above the water. The round donut types mean that since you are a lot lower in the water, it is easier to move against the wind, however your general moving speed is way down than if your in a type that rides high on the water keeping you dry except for below the knees. I would imagine that having a paddle would help.

can you lean forward in this thing??? Is it wobbly..at all?
@jeanmousseau5575
@jeanmousseau5575 2 ай бұрын
Most float tubes allow some forward leaning. Some may have a strap with a buckle latch system that connects the front of the seat between your legs to a cross bar that across the front on the float tube. All the float tubes that I have been on are very stable even in moderately choppy water. As you are leaning back in your seat and kicking in front of you, you move backwards. This helps even more qith the stability.
@Ashw1115
@Ashw1115 Ай бұрын
It’s more stable than a kayak suprisingly. Ever since I got my float tube it really has changed the game for me. I’m a minimalist and after 2 years of putting my big kayak on the roof of my car and having to do that process, the float tube is much easier.
