Great video. Interestingly yesterday I was wondering why GoPro doesn't put a pair of stereo microphones of high quality on the media mod as the single mono one used not only sounds boring but is not of great quality as well. I think they really missed the opportunity to drastically improve the sound quality of external mics within the media mod. Because they didnt do that the user has to buy a separate microphone to add to it. The media mod could have been something awesome.

Will this front and rear mic work with an older Media Mod as well?? I have the Hero 10 on which it doesn't work, but if I would upgrade to Hero 12, would my current Media Mod support this feature, or do I also need a new Media Mod?

That is a great enhancement! I would ALWAYS forget to switch it so I stopped using the media mod altogether.

Exactly. 90% of time I am behind camera. Often I forget I set to rear and talk in front of camera to do a intro only later do I realize I screwed up as audio sucks. Or I switch to do an intro, forget to switch back, and waste 10 minutes talking behind camera making the clip useless due to poor audio. Finally I can walk around talk to people point camera in any direction and get same audio quality no matter what.

Wind reduction disabled as media mod has foam covers to reduce wind sound.

Front and rear mic are combined together onto both left and right channel (rather than front on left channel and back on right channel.)

Hi Marcus. Thanks for your video on this matter. Can you help me on an issue I have with my new GoPro 12. 2 years ago I purchased GoPro 10 with the Media Mod. When using the Media Mod, the mic options were front, back and both which appeared as choices when using the GoPro 10. The GoPro 10 died and I have now purchased the GoPro 12. When I attach the Media Mod that I used with the 10 on the 12, the mic options don't appear. The only choice I have with the Media Mod on the 12 is "Standard Mic". Can you help on this matter, what are your thoughts? Am I missing something. I would have thought that media mods for 10,11 and 12 would be the same.

Settings/Media Mod area always says "Camera Mics" and can't be changed! Dumb for it to appear there as it is confusing? You need to be in Pro mode, and the changing of Mic settings are in the Pro Tune sections of each video presets. If you change it alot add it to "Shortcuts" for each preset so you can see switch it quicker. See this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYOonHmfZatprK8

I haven't tried recently, but when I last had tried when making this video it did not work on GP11. You only could choose front or back, but not both.

I think they could have easily added it to 11 via firmware but chose not to in order to sell more 12

In H12, is it possible to record one channel ( R ) from Bluetooth Mic and the other ( L ) from an external mic connected to the media mod ?

I don’t think so but not sure cause most of my Bluetooth headsets could not pair. The one which did pair there was no audio recorded.

The Hero 9 with media mod audio is horrible. Very tinny. Sounds like you’re speaking into a can. Listening to your audio test made me hopeful is I decide to upgrade.
